Episodes

  • Today’s meditation is a 30 minute vipassana practice. We’ll use the practice of noting to bring awareness to whatever is arising in our experience. The meditation starts with a few minutes of awareness of breathing, and we then open our awareness to the entirety of our experience.

Keeping the breath as the anchor, we sit in observation of whatever is arising and passing. This noting practice is inspired by the Mahasi Sayadaw method. It’s a bit gentler and less structured, but offers a helpful way to anchor in the breath while remaining open to other feelings, sounds, thoughts, etc.

  • Today’s episode is the first in a series of Mindfulness in Daily Life. As laypeople, we spend most of our days interacting with the world. Although meditation is a useful tool, we can also benefit from bringing our mindfulness practice off the cushion and into everyday life.

This first episode covers the simple idea of slowing down. The simple act of slowing down can make a significant difference in our ability to be mindful and present during the day. We’ll talk about why slowing down is important, why we rush through our days, and a few techniques you can use to be more mindful and deliberate with your actions.

Today’s talk is on the concept of the different dharma doors we walk through. It is traditionally held that there 84,000 different dharma doors we can use to work toward awakening. In this talk, we’ll talk about these different doors, how to find one that suits you, and what it means to walk fully through a door.

Today’s talk is an introduction to Anapanasati. The Anapanasati Sutta is the Buddha’s instructions on mindfulness of the breath, and offers a systematic way to work through the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.

There is a lot to be said about this practice. Here I offer a brief overview or introduction. We cover the basics of Anapanasati, how to actually practice, a bit about my experience, and some tips to get the most out of this meditation technique.
