In this episode, Diane and Rebecca dig into the real reasons we put things off: self-preservation, fear, the need for rest, and the emotional signals hiding beneath our avoidance.
They challenge the idea that procrastination is purely a character flaw; sometimes it's your mind asking for a break, or a sign that clarity, motivation, or support is missing. From instant gratification to unclear expectations, they unpack what's actually fuelling the delay.
They also take a leadership lens to the problem, exploring how managers can unwittingly create procrastination in their teams and share practical tools like accountability partnerships, body doubling, and environmental changes to help break the cycle. Make sure you tune in to learn more.

What if the silence in your team meetings isn't harmony but a warning sign?
Most leaders are trained to smooth things over. But what if the absence of conflict is the real problem? In this episode of Headflex, Rebecca and Diane make a compelling case that teams who never disagree have often just stopped being honest with each other.
They discuss what "healthy conflict" actually looks like, not personal attacks or chaos, but robust debate held together by trust and psychological safety. A space where tension exists, but doesn't destroy. Where ideas get challenged, not people.
Rebecca and Diane explore why so many teams default to avoidance: clashing communication styles, fear of damaged relationships, low trust and what it takes to build something better. That means cultivating "vulnerable trust," setting intentional team norms, and giving people a shared language for disagreement before it's needed.
They also put leaders under the spotlight: how might your own behaviour be shutting down the very challenge your team needs to give you?
Practical, honest, and a little uncomfortable in the best possible way. This episode will change how you think about friction at work.
Here are the highlights:
00:00 Challenging the assumption that teams without conflict are healthy.
00:54 Healthy conflict is a feeling of tension and discomfort, but within a safe environment.
01:43 Introducing the idea of "the unsaid" and the importance of surfacing hidden issues in teams.
02:18 Healthy conflict is about ideas and goals, not personal clashes.
04:38 Explaining the value of a clear shared goal to enable debates on how to achieve team objectives.
06:13 How healthy conflict thrives on trust and differing perspectives
07:48 Why healthy conflict is hard
08:11 Conflicting communication styles can hinder healthy conflict
11:03 The Patrick Lencioni model, highlighting the role of vulnerable trust in achieving healthy conflict.
18:05 Three coaching questions to help listeners reflect.

Is harmony in teams always a good thing, or can it hold you back? In this episode of Headflex, co-hosts Rebecca Walker and Diane Williams question the assumption that calm, comfortable, conflict-free environments foster high performance.
They unpack why surface-level “harmony” can be misleading: when teams default to politeness, avoid challenge, and mask disagreement, they risk becoming stuck, bland, and underperforming. Rebecca and Diane explore how habitual agreement and a lack of robust debate can stifle progress, creativity, and employee motivation, even if everyone seems to “get along.”
Make sure you listen for practical insights into the warning signs of “toxic harmony”, from declining performance to conversations that happen outside the meeting room and why true team richness comes from valuing diverse perspectives and healthy conflict.
Here are the highlights
00:00 Intro: Questioning whether harmony in teams is always beneficial
00:46 How harmony can get in the way of high performance
01:39 The ways in which surface-level harmony often stems from passive behaviour and a lack of challenge
03:13 How prioritising harmony can lead to discomfort and decision-making paralysis
05:09 The value of debate and disagreement for team vitality and creativity
05:39 Toxic harmony: When harmony becomes counterproductive
06:43 The "shiny car hood" metaphor that illustrates how surface harmony can hide deeper issues within a team
08:43 The loss of diverse perspectives when open debate is absent
11:41 Brené Brown’s concept of "the conversation after the conversation" as a sign of hidden disharmony

Delegation is a double-edged sword. It can always feel like the right option, but is it just another dilemma for leaders and teams? In this latest episode of Headflex, co-hosts Rebecca Walker and Diane Williams roll up their sleeves and dive into the art (and challenge) of delegation in the modern workplace. From the struggle to let go, to the risks of over-delegating, they examine why this vital skill trips up so many leaders, from emerging managers to the most senior execs.

Are you known as the “safe pair of hands” at work? The colleague everyone turns to in a crisis, the one who always says yes? While dependability is widely celebrated as a cornerstone of trust and credibility, it can also quietly lead to exhaustion, invisibility, and even resentment. In this thought-provoking episode, co-hosts Rebecca and Diane dive deep into the double-edged sword of dependability: when does being reliable start to hold you back instead of propelling you forward?
Drawing on personal stories, coaching experiences, and workplace research, they explore the ways dependability shapes our identities, how it impacts career progression, and the emotional toll it can create.

What if the real competitive advantage in today’s workplace isn’t another initiative, framework, or performance metric but a culture built on better conversations?
In a fast-moving world of change and pressure, coaching has become one of the most powerful and most misunderstood tools available to organisations. It’s not a “cosy chat.” It’s not remedial support. And it’s certainly not a tick-box exercise.
In this episode of Headflex, co-hosts Rebecca Walker and Diane Williams explore how coaching fuels measurable performance, strengthens engagement, and creates lasting behavioural change. Blending global research with personal stories, they bring the data to life and reveal how coaching creates ripple effects across communication, collaboration, and leadership.
They also confront the realities: Why do some organisations struggle to embed a coaching culture? What gets in the way? And how can slowing down actually accelerate commercial success?
Listen to learn more about how coaching could transform your own workplace experience.
Highlights include:

What if the most transformative skill in leadership, coaching, and relationships isn’t what you say but how deeply you listen? In this episode, co-hosts Rebecca Walker and Diane Williams explore the art and science of truly powerful listening, and why despite its profound impact on trust, thinking, and performance 98% of leaders have never received formal training in how to listen well, a finding highlighted by listening researcher Oscar Trimboli.
Drawing on the work of Oscar Trimboli and Nancy Kline, Rebecca and Diane explore the crucial difference between simply hearing words and offering the kind of attention that helps others think clearly, speak openly, and feel genuinely understood.
Blending practical coaching-room experience with relatable everyday moments including some memorable feedback from Rebecca’s three-year-old, this episode shines a light on common listening habits and how to change them. This conversation is rich with insights and practical tools for anyone who wants to listen more deeply, connect more meaningfully, and lead more powerfully.
Highlights include:

Confidence is one of the most sought-after qualities in professional and personal life, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. In this episode of Headflex, co-hosts Rebecca and Diane explore what really makes us feel confident, and why the advice to “just believe in yourself” so often misses the point.
Drawing from years of coaching experience, they reveal the three biggest myths about confidence that regularly come up in coaching sessions like the idea that only extroverts are confident, or that fear must disappear for true confidence to emerge. The conversation covers why confidence is not a fixed personality trait, but a contextual skill that grows with self-awareness, repetition, and experience.
Rebecca and Diane share practical stories, language tips, and somatic exercises to help you shift your internal narrative, quiet your self-doubt, and find your own authentic confidence style, no matter your workplace, personality, or life stage. Whether you’re recovering after maternity leave, stepping back into work post-illness, or just trying to speak up more in meetings, there’s advice here for you.
As always, the episode wraps up with thought-provoking self-coaching questions to help you reflect and take action right away.
Here are the highlights:
01:16 Confidence isn’t a personality trait, but a skill you can grow
02:47 Myth 1: Extroverts aren’t the only confident people
05:53 Why comparison in the workplace is a confidence trap
10:16 Language patterns that undermine your confidence and what to say instead

15:01 Real coaching example: accepting nerves in high-stakes situations
19:21 The power of small actions and repetition in growing confidence
20:12 Myth 3: You’re ‘either confident or not’, labels often hold us back
23:18 How returning from maternity or sick leave impacts confidence
24:08 Focus on strengths to rebuild confidence, instead of weaknesses
26:00 Letting go of outdated labels and beliefs from the past

About Sally Cater:
Sally has been an accredited coach for 10 years and is a champion for inclusivity and understanding in the neurodiverse community.
After uncovering her own late diagnosis of ADHD and and realising that the derogatory labels she had given herself over the years were a result of a lack of understanding of what her neurodivergent brain was struggling to do as she forced herself to fit into a neurotypical world, she has since redefined her narrative, shedding past misconceptions and now helps other coaches expand their confidence and knowledge of ADHD.
She runs two brilliant programmes which help coaches seamlessly integrate ADHD-informed strategies into their coaching practice, enhancing their ability to support and empower clients.
ADHD in Focus for Coaches course, our ICF-accredited group coaching programADHD Foundations for Coaches course, our self-paced coursePrior to becoming a coach Sally spent 25 years leading and managing teams across the private and third sectors. And had the privilege, in her own words, "of working with teams of all shapes and sizes, brimming with unique and brilliant minds."
