  • We’ve been having a lot more reunions on the show and this one was definitely long overdue. The last time we had Jay Hoang on the podcast he was in the beginning stages of JToons and we were at the beginning stages of the podcast. Now after 2 colouring books, 500+ car commissions and a recent apparel drop, he found time to sit down with us again and talk about his newest passion project.

  • As another year passes, Nau does another solo episode to reflect on everything Kodawari has done in 2021. From all kinds of content creation for YouTube, Instagram, finding our niche with diecast sales, and organizing car meets, all while running a detailing shop and staying consistent with the KodaCast. None of this was easy to do, but with each mistake comes a lesson learned. Watching team members come and go and really settling into our roles at Kodawari has been the biggest take away - knowing all this and going into 2022 with a clearer vision, we can't wait to show you everything we have planned!

  • Sitting down with our next guest was a real treat. As a long time follower, Nau watched Matt from his YouTube beginnings as a guy detailing his car, while obsessing and testing products on the detailing market. Little did we know, the video journalling was a form of therapy that turned into Obsessed Garage. Fast forward to 2019 when Kodawari found a commercial space, the first thing we did was contact Matt and his team to help us design the shop and fill it with tools of the trade.

A big topic that Matt emphasizes is the importance of the garage space in a house and why, when buying a house, this is something to really consider, (seeing that it’s usually one of the biggest spaces in the house) and really highlighting niche products that you would want for your space.

We also dive into real, personal stories about growing up in a household with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and having the humility to work hard at any job; This mindset would echo the work Matt does today, as he puts pressure on himself to oversee the well-being of his team, while continually building his business and watching his mental health - he reveals how this weight of responsibility has lead him to sit shotgun for awhile.

  • Starting where all great friendships begin, we met our next guest at the very first Coffee Run meet for @collectingcars in Toronto, back in October. Cliff, having been in the finance industry for the past 25 years, found a chance to grow outside of his industry and move into a field that was more suited to his passion: all things cars. We listen to his journey and realize that no matter where you are in life, there will always be opportunities for you if you’re willing to take the chance and get creative. We also discuss what the future for Collecting Cars hold, and how that platform will help the Canadian market with our unique demographic of collectors and enthusiasts.

  • We’ve all been there, where what you learn in school doesn’t become relevant, or important to you until you start applying it to something you really enjoy, and that’s what happened with our next guest: Derick Biones from Project1. Being the curious person that he is, asking lots of questions is very natural for him; whether he’s getting to know someone, or just curious about a car build. This eventually led him down the path to where Project1 is today, a platform to dive into people and their passions. These friends are like two peas in a pod, exploring topics surrounding self-improvement and digging into a little philosophy discussing ‘thoughtful disagreement’ and how it relates to business and relationships.

  • In our last episode of 2021, we wanted to leave on a positive note. Even though we try to focus on automotive and detailing, we find that a lot of what we talk about and the stories we hear have a common theme: An opportunity to be better and to do better. So, as we move into a new year, we wanted to share stories that takes things into different perspectives and help to create a positive mindset.

    See you in 2022!

  • Celebrating 10 years in the auto mechanic industry this Jan 2022, Nhu Nguyen joins Nau on the podcast to dive deep into the world of Porsche and the events that led her to be the first Classic Certified Woman for Porsche.

Having an interest for cars and a knack for working with her hands, she went on to build an amazing skill set centred mainly around Porsches and with that garnered opportunities to work along side Nakai-San on the Kitchener RWB build, being on a racetrack team and more. All of this is only one of the many hats that Nhu wears, as we explore her career and dig into the human condition and what drives people to pursue their passions.

The biggest take away from this episode is that you will never realize the doors that will open until you take that leap into the unknown. You never know what’s waiting for you on the other side!

  • Almost one year after their first episode together, Nau and Kaval sit down to talk about the past 12 months: what it's like building a business, working/managing employees and creating a niche. They get introspective and dive deep into the Kodawari Mindset. Question why some people work the way they do. How can a company build morale and support its employees with their goals? And finding happiness in your work.

  • Listening in on Nau and Austin, you would figure they were long time friends but sometimes people just click. Diving right into Austin's most recent restoration on a 1991 Civic EF, we knew he had the Kodawari Mindset. Every small detail of the vehicle was restored to the highest standard, which is something a son of an engineer would have a pretty good eye on. You can tell these two (now best friends) really value the same ideals when it comes to cars, ESPECIALLY Porsches, driving experience and overall outlook on sharing all this knowledge with the car community. Make sure to follow Austin as he continues to build his garage and tune in to find out what his next car project will be!

  • The KC team is back with another car release episode! Our boys Lanzo, Kodawari Dave and Nau Ho sit down to discuss some of the most exciting Acura news to come out this year: the relaunch of the Integra Type S. This is definitely one for the JDM fans as we drool over all the specs of this manual 6-speed.
Other big announcements over the past few weeks include: the announcement of the 2023 Civic Type R, more news on Porsche's GT4 RS, Toyota's Corolla GR coming to the North American market, the newest Subaru's WRX (thoughts??) and much much more.

  • When asking our community about a powder coater in the Toronto area, Ronan was someone that kept coming up - and once we were in touch, sparks just flew and we knew we had to have him on the podcast!

Growing up as the son of a drag racer Smax Smith, meant Ronan is no stranger to the camera. He recounts wild stories about growing up in the drag car scene in England and eventually here in Canada. Finding his way through different jobs within the automotive industry from paint shops, tire shops, custom performance shops to eventually carving into his own niche now specializing in powder coating multi-piece Japanese wheels. Six years after opening up shop, Ronan is still hungry to study and learn more about his craft and continues to grow and share everything. And that's exactly what we're all about.

  • This week we get to learn about Porsches and what it's like to be in the ever-changing landscape behind these fuel injected to electric vehicles with Josh Wee, a Gold Certified Tech at Porsche Centre of Oakville.

From humble beginnings, Josh started at Porsche as a detailer while waiting for an apprenticeship to open up and is now one of the leading techs that gets to help and mentor the newer technicians in the field. You can really get a sense that Josh, has really developed that Kodawari mindset of continual learning, by always keeping an open mind, always asking questions and always, always double checking your work. There is so much to take away from this episode, but the last piece of advice that Josh left us with us is: read the owner's manual!

  • We get a chance to sit down with Mark Seto, whom was settling back at home after being on the road for five consecutive weeks. As the director for the Driven Show, Mark and Nau talk about the 2021 shows and how they differed in many ways to past years, reflecting on the challenges of organizing and bringing a static car show across Canada.

Having started in 2018, the Driven Show was something the car community was highly anticipating this summer. KC had the best time at the Toronto show, having had a chance to podcast live and was invited to come back next year for a special opportunity - but you’ll have to listen to find out!

  • Nau sits down with retail manager, Ben Kitchen and creative director, Chris James to learn more about the JRP and Speed Therapy brands. Being passionate about what you do and being able to bring that into work is something not a lot of people get to do as Ben and Chris talk about their personal experiences in tracking and building cars.

Being a distributor and retailer of performance car parts, JRP has come a long way in terms of their presence on social media and has grown retail-wise through their social outlets. They also attend many car shows across Canada, and all over the globe like SEMA, and the Geneva Auto Show.

Speed Therapy is a division of JRP that focuses on track and performance. Speaking on their last track day held for family and friends, we get to understand how these events brings people together and helps to appreciate motorsports even more.

  • Sitting down with our friend, Rob Scaglione was long overdue. As a recognizable name in the fd2 community and an award winning sales manager at Acura of Oakville, Rob is someone that definitely represents the Kodawari Mindset. We dive into Rob’s family history with the Acura brand and how that passion has trickled into his work at @acuraofoakville from detailer, now as a used/new car sales consultant. We get to hear about the hype Acura is bringing back with the recently announced revival of the Integra, and we speculate (erm..dream) all the things we’d love to see and the possibilities it brings.

  • A few weeks ago some of our team members attended the Japan Classic Track Day event at Shannonville Motorsport Park. We got a chance to check out some JDM icons, like R32s, R33s, R34s, AE86s, RX-7s, S2000s, and even a few Datsun’s, including Tim’s 240Z.

We knew after that event, we had to sit down with organizers Tim and Navin, to learn more about this meet and dive deeper into what classic JDM car culture looks like in Toronto.

  • Excited to hear that Lliam Ly was going to fly back his Toronto hood, we had to get this interview together. Being the creative behind both Kodawari Collective and Koda Sound logos, Lliam's story with KC stems from the very beginnings of this whole car passion endeavour. This is not as much a car episode as it is about growing as a person and a business, and giving out life lessons from a Toronto mans living in Vancouver type of vibe. Nau and Lliam reflect on growing up together being the only Vietnamese families in their neighbourhood, sharing stories about the resilience of fighting for what you’re passionate about. We were so glad to hear Lliam finally picked up his first car after moving out to Vancouver and hearing his take as a new enthusiast in the car game.

  • The team took a break from regular podcasting to prep for the Toronto @drivenshow this past September 18, 2021 and had an opportunity to podcast live with Jack UltraMotive and a few other guests.

Jesse and Kiel had a chance to it down with us at the show to talk a little bit about their products from Exo Shield: a window shield company that specializes in nano-ceramic windshield protectant film. Their newest GT3 formula has proven to help to protect, being 6x impact resistant than windshield glass, giving you that peace of mind. Don't worry, it's not all business, as they also get into cars they're looking forward to seeing in the new season and cars from the Driven show!
