  • GARDENING IN THE UK WITH MR. PLANT GEEK 🌱Life Seeds Podcast ft. Michael Perry, Mr. Plant Geek

🌱 Your source of garden + life inspiration

    🌿 Season One | Episode 4

Life seeds is the intersection of learning more about our garden and ourselves. Growth can be experienced in many different ways and can be observed in many different ways. But before growth can happen, seeds have to be planted.

    MEET MR. PLANT GEEK

I’ve always been a PLANT GEEK! Of course, during the “cool” teenage years, I desperately tried to hide it. But, now, as we enjoy a golden age in horticulture, I am out and proud! The concept of Mr Plant Geek was born around four years ago, on a rainy evening in New York, no less. I was on the brink of going freelance, after a long career with one company, and needed a title. A title that would sum up what I’m about. Mr Plant Geek was the result!

During my time at Thompson & Morgan, the premier mail order plant company in England, I racked up 18 years of experience. I was busy introducing hundreds of brand new plants into the UK marketplace, with headline grabbers such as the Egg and Chips plant and the tasty Fuchsia Berry!  In 2015, I was super chuffed to be listed in the Top ’20 most influential horticulturists’ by The Sunday Times, in recognition of my innovations.  I’m also immensely proud of the fun, yet informative website we have created with mrplantgeek.com, with super accessible content!

From WTF Gardening to Your Ideal Plant Guide, the online ‘gardening school’ can help any level of gardener. I should be easy to find on social media too, and just love sharing my plant finds with followers. I hope to excite and inspire!

  • MAKING GOOD WINE IN NIAGARA & ROLLING WITH THE PUNCHES | ft. Allison Findlay, @winemakersboots (from https://www.flatrockcellars.com/)

Your source of garden + life inspiration  - Season One | Episode 3

Life seeds is the intersection of learning more about our garden and ourselves. Growth can be experienced in many different ways and can be observed in many different ways. But before growth can happen, seeds have to be planted. Today we take our garden chat to the vineyard and boy are we ready for it!

    ABOUT OUR GUEST ALLISON

Originally from Dryden, Allison was on a trip to visit friends in Niagara, when she toured a winery. The person behind to tasting bar fascinated her with the notions of wine being a blend of art and science. A way to take nature and put it into the bottle, a fabulous dance of smell, taste and feel. She was SOLD. She first completed her Undergraduate in Biology at Lakehead University, before venturing off to her new life in Southern Ontario. Attending Niagara College’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program was the perfect compliment to her previous science education, as well as opened her eyes to the vast world of wine. After participating in multiple vintages both locally and internationally, she finally found her true love on the Twenty Mile Bench. At Flat Rock Cellars, she took her passion for science, nature and creativity and now produces exceptional terroir-focused wines.

  • MAKING DECISIONS IN THE GARDEN & LIFE | ft. The Tattooed Gardener

Your source of garden + life inspiration  - Season One | Episode 2

Life seeds is the intersection of learning more about our garden and ourselves. Growth can be experienced in many different ways and can be observed in many different ways. But before growth can happen, seeds have to be planted.

Today we catch up with garden expert Paul Gellatly otherwise known as "The Tattooed Gardener". Paul has incredible experience from working with the Toronto Zoo to being Director of Horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Gardens.

Paul grew up loving to grow and we can't wait for you to hear some of his stories from childhood to now. A huge part of this conversation focuses on the difficulty of making decisions and learning when it's time to pull the trigger.

FRANKIE'S GARDEN FACT CHECK: Which seeds are viable? The ones that sink or the ones that float? Short answer is the ones that sink are going to be more viable to germinate. (Water test: Take your seeds and put them in a container of water. Let them sit for about 15 minutes. Then if the seeds sink, they are still viable; if they float, they most likely will not sprout. This method, in my opinion, is not the best way to check your seeds. For surer results, try performing a germination test.
