  • We're joined by Paul Harding from Super Duper Garage for this episode.
Paul's a car collector / car hoarder and has appeared on Jonny Smith's Late Brake Show Car Cave - check out the episode here - Secret barn collection of Porsches, M3s and JDM cars - Car Caves - YouTube

Our talk starts with a yellow Vauxhall Chevette, but takes a few side turns and ends up with a chat about buying classic cars from neighbour's driveways on Halloween!

We do catch up with the road trips, the music etc later on in the recording though, as Paul reminds us we forgot to do the Podcast!

    Hope you enjoy this one.

  • Join us for a quick chat about Car Spotting Etiquette.
With the response to our Car Spotting Tennis is shows no signs of slowing up, so we'll continue for now - but there are some rules we have put in place.
The cars need to be in a public place, either a car park or on the road.
If the car is parked on a drive, or behind a block of flats, then it doesn't count...

It comes down to how you would feel if someone was snooping around your stuff really, and I do value a bit of privacy. I don't mind if someone photographs my car, but keep my house and my family out of it!

So, there you go... Hope you enjoy this little bonus, if you haven't listened to the latest full episode yet go and check it out, and the next one will drop on Tuesday!

  • We're joined by Jay from Players Classic, Players Shows, Flat 6 Show, Hoonigan and star of many PVW magazine features for this fantastic episode.
Come with us, back in time to when Skoda's were seriously uncool - His Dad had many of them! Fortunately in Jay's words, he knew how to take care of himself, otherwise it would have been a very unpleasant time at school.
Jay's Dad also had a Rover P6 with the number plate 999 BAN - and he was a Police Officer!!
Other stories in this episode include his Aunt Mick's Ford Fiesta Supersport and she was arguably responsible for getting Jay into cars.
The Fiesta later got part exchanged for a Honda Civic, which eventually ended up with Jay after she passed away - and he ran that car into the ground.
We hope you enjoy this one as much as all the others!

  • This week we're joined by Dave Carey from Adelaide in Australia!
Yep! The good work we have been doing has trickled down under, and we're gathering some momentum, which attracted motoring journalist and petrol head Dave to get in touch with us.
Dave's father passed away when he was just over 5 years old, but he still has some strong memories of his car, he also recalls his Mums car, and their matching number plates.
Conversation also covers an ex partner of his Mum's who robbed a service station to fund his motorsport season, and a kid at his school who's parents owned one of only a handful of Brock Directors.
We may be more used to home grown saloons than Holden Utes, but this conversation proved that these memories and good story telling will survive, even if told from another continent.
Thanks again Dave for coming on - our first truly international guest, dialing in from overseas.
    Enjoy!

  • The first episode of Season 4 really sets the bar high (but panic not, we've got some great guests waiting in the wings too), Steve Waddingham is the official company historian for none other than Aston Martin Lagonda, but when he's not researching old colour names, and digging out race cars from dusty barns, he's behind the wheel of his own Austin Allegro! Yep... you read that right!
We talk about his Father's Austin Cambridge, him working at his Dad's garage fixing cars. His Grandad who was a chauffeur, but typically drove a Morris Minor not a Daimler like everyone else - at the request of his employer!
Think you're gonna love this one!

  • Jon and Andy went wild in the halls of the NEC with the newly acquired podcasting machine (thanks coffee buyers..) gathering together a wonderful and eclectic collection of earliest car memories from many different show goers.
The quality is ok considering we recorded these stood up surrounded by hundreds of other people talking! So go easy on the critique!
If you were one of the 'lucky' people we spoke to - thanks so much for your time, we really appreciate it.
Normal service will resume with Season 4 kicking off soon. But for now, enjoy these little nuggets!

  • Jon and Andy are joined by Russell Quirk who recalls countless tales of his Dad's cars.
He reckons his Dad swapped cars every 6 months, and we're not just talking old Ford Escorts (although he had an RS2000) we're talking E-Types, Aston Martin's, Rolls Royces, TVR, Porsche and more.
Russell's Dad was an Estate Agent in Essex, and liked to show off a little as to how successful he was. In later life he got into Car Dealerships, and was known as Mazda Man due to his brand allegiance.
Russell's proudest tale is the story of tracking down the personalised number plate that used to be worn by his father's Aston Martin V8 Vantage, until, one day when he came home from work without it, as it had been sold... with the 4 digit plate GO 92.
Many years later Russell chanced upon the plate for sale and simply had to buy it!
So it now lives on one of his own cars in tribute to his late father.
We hope you enjoy this one as much as all the others. A big thanks to Russell for coming on to talk with us.

  • Jon and Andy welcome Helen Stanley to My Dad's car this week. She may be familar to some of you having graced our TV screens on Goblin Works Garage and Motor Pickers to name but a few.
These day's Helen is working as an artist - check out her pop art here: helenstanleyofficial.com
Helen also hosts a podcast with her cousin, called Cars of the Macabre - take a listen in all the usual places.
Discussion on her own car influence starts with toys, and then builds into a love of watching James Bond with her Dad.
Her Dad had a few cool cars, a Peugeot 405 Mi16 and an E36 BMW 3 series. He also owned a classic Mini back when they were just regular cars... A vehicle Helen would love to own in the future.
On top of discussions about Helen's TV work, Andy also pitches the idea of Part-X, a new classifieds service aimed at bringing back the joy of the acronym and word limited for sale adverts.
We were most grateful to Helen for coming on - to date probably our 'most famous' guest. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it.

  • Andy and Jon are joined by Steve Holden, a friend of Andy's whom he knows through classic VW ownership.
The discussion kicks off with Steve's Mum's Datsun Cherry Coupe, before talk turns to a Morris Marina Van, and a love in for the Renault 9 - which led Steve to buy a Renualt 19 later in life.
Steve's Dad surprised his mum with an Escort XR3i Cabriolet one Christmas, he'd hidden it in the garage the week before, but the marks on the grass almost gave the game away.
Being a hands on Dad (having built his own house) there was a Dumper Truck in the garden that Steve learnt to drive in. His Dad would also help with mechanical repairs, lowering modifications and even a full engine swap on an aging Rover.
Another great episode which really captures the magic of the subject.

  • After pulling a few strings (and featuring Danny Hopkins, the editor of Practical Classics in a previous episode) Andy and Jon have secured media passes for the show on Sunday 24th March, and will be wandering the halls of the NEC in a bid to meet as many people as possible.
On top of that, equipped with the crowd funded Zoom Podtrak machine, there will be the potential to record some audio for another episode whilst there too.

Add into the mix of this bonus, a discussion on the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, a Christmas day car show in London and Porsche 911 Targa that left a lasting impression with Jon's eldest half brother.

Hope you enjoy this short and sweet bonus episode. Normal service resumes next week.

  • Jon and Andy are joined by Takona founder Lewis Warren to discover what got him into cars... Fortunately for us, the blame lies very firmly at his Father's door, and there's a string of decent cars indicating why.
However, it wasn't a car thing for his Dad really, after the 205 GTI and the Toyota Celica, cars became an accessory for work. The Audi TT was the sportiest car available on the company car scheme, and as a Financial Advisor, the vehicles became an identity, and a way to demonstrate knowledge in investment, rather than a hobby.
There are some great tales, including a roadtrip to Spain in the TT with his brother, with just a Country and Western CD for entertainment... There might be a bit of travel sickness too!

Takona, as Lewis explains is a clothing brand aimed at getting car enthusiasts talking, and talking about their mental health. We'd love you to look him up www.takona.co.uk or check out the Takona Tlks podcast with a string of great guests, including recently, Jonny Smith and Richard Porter aka Smith and Sniff.

  • Andy and Jon are joined by Charles Clegg, Co-Founder and CEO of Custodian, a car management app, designed for car collectors and enthusiasts.
The story begins for Charles with a pair of Bristols... (oooh eer misses). One that he miraculously identified from his pushchair, the second belonging to his Mother, which after 20 years of ownership, met a fiery end parked in Knightsbridge, causing shop evacuations and road closures.
Later on discussion turns to a Ferrari, in grey, bought new by Charles father, and he would travel on a small shelf behind the front seats!
As he grew, he was afforded the luxury of Range Rovers, with arm rests both in the centre and the side of the rear bench. Clearly paving the way for what Charles comically calls a 'masochistic' relationship with the classic 4x4.

Naturally, there is also lots of talk around the benefits of the Custodian platform, what it can do, and excitingly we manage to discover what is in store too...
Please do check it out (we're not being paid for this.. we think it is cool)

    In their words…
"Loving your car is easy. Owning it isn’t.
Meet Custodian, the free platform that simplifies car ownership. Create a digital garage, protect your car's history, schedule tasks, browse a specialist car marketplace, and manage your insurance - all in one convenient place.”

Talk starts with Chuff's cousin's Mk2 Golf GTI, then moves into a string of Ford Cortina's, takes in a full list, made in conjunction with his Mum, and rounds up with mention of VW campers, and Volkswagen Jettas too.

  • Recorded a few days before Christmas, Jon and Andy discuss the closing of a chapter... It revolves largely around the sale of Jon's E39 5 Series, whether he will get another, and the process behind picking a CD to leave behind, as a token... Just as he remembers a Billy Ocean cassette in his Dad's car from years ago.

  • Andy and Jon are joined by Sam from Southern Cars in Manchester, a classic car dealership originally started by Sam's father 50 years ago.
From Ferrari's and Lamborghini's in the garden, to the chinese-eye Rolls Royce Cloud 3 that was the one he'd never sell... Although Sam's Mum did drive it through a garage door into the back of a Mercedes Gullwing one Christmas, and her parents didn't speak until Easter!!
This is a great journey through the world of car sales in the days gone, and how the classic car market has evolved to be internet based, with no need for a showroom in the modern day.
We're sure you'll enjoy this one!

Not wanting to miss out on a feature on the My Dad's Car podcast, they sit down for a quick chat to see how she's coping with her new found fame.
Car wise, there is discussion about Nanna's car... A red Citroen C3 (that apparently looks like a Porsche) and Mummy's A4 estate.

  • Jon and Andy are joined today by Dan Rees.
Dan is a friend of Andy's brother, and a jewelry designer by trade, he's also a dab hand at You Tube and Tik Tok, and a budding stand up comedian too.
By his own admission, early on Dan tells us that he's the worst guest we could get on, but that doesn't stop the chat, or the laughs...
Lots of silliness, stories about his brothers Mini, and later a Hearse, chasing would be car thieves with a screw driver, and his Mums Polo getting pulled out a ditch by some Rugby players!
The tangent kicks in quite early as Dan recalls a run of his own cars, each with some wonderful names, many of which met their fate at the scrap yard after letting Dan down in service!
Lastly we enjoy tales from Dan's time in Australia, certainly not on topic, but being a brilliant story teller we couldn't bare to cut it out the edit!

Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did recording it.

A great discussion about cars of Ed's past, some discussion on aftershaves, watches which bring back memories for us all.
Ed says "There's something very cool about driving a car older than you" which takes us on a tangent discussing first cars, and how some 'kids' these days are choosing classics rather than a run of the mill, modern super mini.
