Being grounded can keep us rooted and steady in an unstable world. And with everything that we are facing in the world, healthy roots can keep us whole. That's why today, we are speaking with the one and only, The Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque. For over 20 years, Dr. Jacque worked in student affairs at institutions such as Northwestern, the University of Chicago, and the University of California, ultimately serving as Legislative Liaison to California’s 108 community colleges. After answering a call to the ministry, she earned an M.Div. (Summa Cum Laude) and Ph.D. in Theology from Boston University and went on to serve churches of all sizes, including Alfred Street Baptist Church. Dr. Jacque has taught at the University of Chicago Divinity School and Boston University School of Theology and led mission-driven organizations, including the Boston TenPoint Coalition and the Pastoral Counseling Center at Trinity Church Boston. She currently serves as President and Board Chair of National Senior Communities, supporting over 28,000 residents and 17,000 staff. She is also co-founder of Courageous Conversations, a national dialogue series on belonging and inclusion. A recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from BU, Citizen of the Year in Barrington, and the Women of Distinction Award, Dr. Jacque is widely regarded as a voice of grace, wisdom, and hope. She is one of a kind and she blessed us in this episode! Interestingly enough... when this episode was first released, 5-10 minutes of the intro were missing. I'm unsure as to why. It could have been a technical issue but I'm glad to say I was able to find the master track so please enjoy for the first time ever the full episode of The Witness of Black Legacy.

“The real problem with the Black community is fatherlessness”. If you’ve ever heard that, this podcast is for you. Jemar and Tyler are back to confront the myth of absent Black fathers. This episode covers the history of the myth, how communities of color raise their kids, and a word of appreciation for their own fathers being present in their upbringing.

“Why don’t you care about the abortion that’s happening in your own community?”
“You talk about lynching and slavery but abortion takes more black lives every day”
(sigh) If you’ve ever heard (or said) statements like these, this episode is for you. Jemar and Tyler are back to tackle the elephant in the room. Tune in for a candid conversation on the history of abortion views in the American church, the problems with the church’s approach to the conversation, and what a prophetic imagination ultimately looks like. This is not for the faint of heart (Y’all know how we do at Pass the Mic), but we hope it challenges you to move beyond the caricatures you’ve heard to a more consistent public witness.
