Waterworld is what happens when Mad Max forgets the desert and commits fully to the ocean. Kevin Costner plays a gilled drifter navigating a flooded Earth, fighting off smokers, scavengers, and the lingering memory of its budget. Against all odds, Tommy reckons it holds up—and might even give modern blockbusters a run for their money. DL came in expecting a disaster and left pleasantly surprised. Project Hail Mary is a rare thing: a big-budget sci-fi that’s actually about ideas - and somehow makes them emotional. Following a lone astronaut tasked with saving Earth through science, problem-solving, and a rock, the film balances tension, humour, and genuine heart. Tommy was all in—hooked from the existential nature of the film. DL appreciated the ambition. It’s smart, sincere, and refreshingly earnest - like The Martian, but with more existential dread and fewer potatoes.

In Bruges is Martin McDonagh’s pitch-black comedy about guilt, purgatory, and accidentally kicking a dwarf. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson shine as two hitmen laying low after a job gone wrong, while Ralph Fiennes turns up to scream about principles. It’s foul-mouthed, funny, and somehow heartfelt, like Home Alone if Kevin had PTSD and a Browning. DL calls it a masterpiece. Tommy would probably fight someone over that opinion.
