  • What are the distinctions between different geothermal systems? Why does OMV have to drill several kilometers deep for geothermal energy if geothermal heat can also be harvested several hundred meters deep? Is it necessary to establish new drilling sites every time, or is it possible to drill at existing locations?

In this episode our host and journalist Steve Chaid is joined by two special guests to help us explore the depths of this topic: Nina Romich, project expert on low carbon business at OMV and Johannes Ettl, senior project manager for well construction at OMV.

  • What is the role of geothermal energy in the context of deep decarbonization and transitioning to a low carbon future? How much of Austria's energy needs will be covered by geothermal energy? How much of Europe's needs?

In this episode our host and journalist Steve Chaid is joined by Peter Seifert. He is one of the founding members of the Geothermal Society of Austria, the “GTÖ”, which promotes all things geothermal, arguing that tapping into shallow, mid-distance and deep sources is both wise and necessary to fulfill Austria's energy needs amid the transition to renewable energy.
