  • Ramadhan is a spiritual month where we break from worldly pleasures - as we know; these include food, water, intimacy and vulgar talk - whilst conversely, increasing our Taqwa, piety and awareness of oneself, and connecting with Allah (swt).

The month of Ramadhan is one of restriction. However, with a gastric sleeve or bypass it is harder to maintain an adequate protein intake. In today's episode, I discuss how you can reach all your nutrient needs without compromising your post-bariatric surgery health.

  • February is Gut Health Month. This month I am focusing on your gut health after weight loss surgery. There is some literature around gut health and bariatric surgery, however more research is needed.

In this episode, I explain the basics of your gut. There is over 95 trillion species of bacteria in the gut from the mouth all the way through to the anus. Gut diversity has a strong influence on health and risk of disease. Struggling with obesity may mean that you have had a historically low diversity of your gut bacteria.

Weight loss surgery is a strong catalyst for change in the gut bacteria. The effects may not be sustained, which further research is needed. However, I question whether this has a role in weight regain after bariatric surgery.

I also provide you with three practical strategies that you can implement today to support your gut health.

  • GLP-1 Medications are arguably one of the most innovative weight loss drugs of our time. In tandem with bariatric surgery, they can be a fantastic combination to help you reach the goals you are aiming for.

However, we run the risk of it being another diet or a 'quick fix' if we are not concerned with what we are actually eating whilst on these medications.

You need to realise that these medications are long term, possibly lifelong medications, that require enough protein, calcium, fibre and fluids for you to feel and keep your best. Especially in regard to muscle, bone and overall metabolic health.

If you need guidance on what to eat whilst on GLP1 Medications or after weight loss surgery. Apply for my coaching today!

I'm here to explain with you that there are many reasons as to why you might find various levels of restriction. It is completely normal! Do your best to keep the food diary and be curious about your restriction day to day.
