  • 293- Being a Wedding Planning Team

    · 00:32:13 · Bridechilla

Getting married is all about committing to being a team! Often weddings are portrayed as the ‘Brides day’, an event that she has been ‘dreaming about since childhood’ and that weddings are a one-sided event that only women care about. I can speak confidently for the Bridechilla community when I say that a majority of our community didn’t grow up dreaming about the little details of a wedding, more likely they aspired to be in happy relationships, to be in love and to find their fellow weirdo! The concept of wedding planning all coming down to women is one perpetuated by media over and over again. Wedding magazines and blogs are primarily marketed at women, they repeat the message that it is women and women alone who make all of the wedding planning decisions and men are simply there to agree and perhaps chuck in an opinion about the song list and bar. Because of this misconception, a lot of couples struggle with how to go about sharing tasks and decisions and I think that some guys use this as a bit of a responsibility dodge. By starting your wedding planning like you would any big couple decision….together…you will be far more likely to plan the wedding celebrations that both want to have. My guest this episode is Mark from swankybadger.com, he is a reformed Groom and ready to share his insights on getting your partner (and your team) on the right track when it comes to planning your wedding. This episode of Bridechilla, we feature two messages from Bridechilla Graduates Hilary and Dani. She asks for advice on how to deal with the situation, maintain her chill but also ensure that they get their much-awaited images of their wedding day. Dani shares her wedding day memories and how being a part of the Bridechilla movement changed her perspective and expectations of her own wedding. Rich pops into the sound proof booth to recount his face wiping tea towel antics that were recently shared on Facebook live… (YUCK) and we talk about our upcoming trip to the USA! Lastly, I share an excerpt of a live Bridechilla, recorded at Unruly wedding Fair this past weekend. It was so much fun and I was delighted to meet a group of gorgeous local Bridechillas there! · 00:40:50 · Bridechilla

A jam-packed Bridechilla Wedding Podcast thing week, with wedding planning Q&A, where I answer your questions and in the second half of the show I bring you an interview with lighting expert Kevin Dennis to drop some serious knowledge about the power of lighting and how good lighting can change a venue for the better. You don’t have to spend a big bunch of your budget on making it happen but you would be surprised as to how lighting can hide or attract attention (in a good way) to a boring wall or even replace other decor like flowers. • 289- Get It In Writing- Knowing Your Wedding Rights!

    · 00:47:55 · Bridechilla

There has been a lot of chat recently on the Bridechilla community about using friends as wedding vendors and how to ensure that you receive the goods or services that have been promised without offending them or feeling awkward. I have also been writing about contracts and negotiating with vendors for my upcoming book the Bridechilla survival guide and went back and listen to this episode with wedding lawyer Christie Asselin. I thought it was so good and informative that it was worth a second offering. Don’t miss Christie’s top five tips for ensuring that your wedding is covered when it comes to contracts and negotiations with offenders, venues and other suppliers who you are dealing with throughout this process. • 287- Adding Non-Traditional Details to Your Wedding

    · 01:11:22 · Bridechilla

This week's episode of the Bridechilla podcast is all about adding non-traditional details to your wedding celebrations. I'm joined by Bridechilla Graduate and Wedding Coordinator Erica Greenwold Reisen from Folie à Deux Events who shares some of her favourite ways to mix up the program and add some extra personality and surprises to your wedding day. It's great to think outside the box especially with the format of your day. We are so used to the "normal" way of organising the day, guests arrive, arrival of the bridal party and couple, Ceremony, cocktail hour and then reception... that when someone does something different it seems very risqué when in fact that is part of the fun of being a Bridechilla you can do whatever the hell you like! • 285- Wedding Scams, Rip-offs and Things To Look Out For

    · 00:38:14 · Bridechilla

Your wedding, the event itself, is one of the most exciting and romantic business transactions you will ever make. Like any business dealings, unfortunately, there are people and companies who are out to take advantage of couples (and vendors). In this episode of Bridechilla, I share some of the more common (and unusual) ways that people have been scammed and tricked out of their money and give you easy ways to protect yourself during your wedding planning and beyond. It's unlikely that you will come across any of these issues but as always, knowledge is power and being aware is a much better state of mind than ignorance. • 284- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A: Colorado Edition

    · 00:50:56 · Bridechilla

It’s an unintentional (but fabulous) Colorado Q&A edition of the Bridechilla Podcast. My husband Rich joins me in my squishy sound booth to answer your wedding planning questions. We talk about parents treating us like 12-year-olds…which ironically makes them seem like 12 years olds sometimes. Why, when it comes to wedding planning does it sometimes trigger the control freak ‘you can’t handle basic tasks’ mode from parents? We’re all adults who make big life decisions, we work, we feed ourselves, so what’s with the regressive nature of their response? We also look at how to handle jealousy between your parents and your in-laws and explore a conundrum between a fabulous venue and a close relative who due to help reasons can’t make it to that location. :( What should they do? Move the wedding? All that and a lot, lot more on Bridechilla! Join the Bridechilla Community on Facebook. • 283- Wedding Guest Perspective: 7 Weddings in One Year

    · 00:33:16 · Bridechilla

Thinking about your wedding from your guests perspective can be a great way to problem solve and also consider the experience that you are hoping to create. This episode, I interview Harri and Harri, our lovely friends who are attending 7 weddings this summer, in three different countries, some of which they are members of the bridal party, others guests. We speak about their favorite moments, things they would change and some of the very fun ideas that have been injected into the weddings that they have attended so far…glitter tables! • 282- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A

    · 00:40:04 · Bridechilla

In this episode, I also share some wonderful stories and advice from Bridechilla vendors who shared their most valuable advice for keeping chill when it comes to planning your wedding and I answer your wedding planning questions! Bridechilla Kelsey wants to know about the etiquette behind partners of the bridal party and what they should do in the lead up to the wedding and on the wedding morning? Is it kosher for a partner to attend a groomsman's morning, while they prepare for the wedding? Kelsey has met a girlfriend of a groomsman who believes that she'll be hanging out with the guys on the morning of the wedding, and Kelsey thinks that this is probably not that appropriate. Bridechilla Christina has a question about bridal party selection. She has a rather long list and is worried about letting people down. I share my thoughts about how to select people that you want to be part of your day without feeling guilt, or resentment when it comes to leaving people off the list, especially if you have a lot of close friends. A great question from Bridechilla Mary about her choice to only serve vegetarian food at the wedding. She's had a couple of friends and family members react negatively to their choice. With such negative feedback, what should Mary do? Should she stick to her guns and not serve any meat products at their wedding, or should she create a meat option to appease her friends and family who don't get their vegetarianism? • 281- Ditching Wedding Stress and Anxiety with Dr Lindsay Bira

    · 00:44:07 · Bridechilla

There has been a lot of talk in The Bridechilla Community of late about wedding planning with depression, stress, and anxiety. The conversation has been candid and I am so happy that we have a place where Bridechillas feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences. Pre-existing depression, anxiety, and stress don't just stop because you are engaged. We are so often told that we should just cheer up or that ‘you’’ be fine on the day’ when it comes to anxiety. and a surprising amount of Bridechillas feel experience anxiety and stress due to wedding planning. Expectations, family relationships, and work pressure, on top of the pressure we put on ourselves, can all add up. If you are nervous or worried about being the centre of attention or the focal point of your wedding day, if you are nervous about the pressure of maintaining tenuous family relationships during this period of your life or are worried about how to talk about stress, depression, and anxiety, then I know today’s episode will be super helpful. • 278- Your Best Wedding Money Saving Ideas

    · 00:40:18 · Bridechilla

Sticking to a budget and maintaining your vision for your wedding can be a constant battle. Wanting to save money in your wedding budget doesn't make you cheap or tight...seriously, it makes you a conscientious and smart. Why spend more than you need, especially when you can funnel those savings into other areas of your wedding (or mortgage or honeymoon!). The surprise and realization of the cost of some aspects of planning a wedding can be a total Debbie Downer- especially when those first quotes come rolling in. ‘It costs HOW MUCH?’ was our usual response…and then we’d worry and wonder if it was ever going to be possible to pull the whole thing off! In this episode of the Bridechilla Podcast, I share some of The Bridechilla Communities, favorite and very clever responses to saving money. These aren’t the standard ‘Just DIY everything’ ideas either (which might I add can get you into more trouble than it is worth sometimes). What great about these tips is that as well as being forward-thinking and sustainable, they're all adaptable to any budget. Join the Bridechilla Community on Facebook. • 276- What does a Wedding Coordinator actually do?

    · 00:59:48 · Bridechilla

If there is one thing that everyone can agree on, it is that weddings are a ton of work. If you are engaged, I am sure you are already feeling spreadsheet overwhelm and decision fatigue. We’ve all heard couples compare wedding planning to having a second full time job, except you are not getting paid - in fact you are the ones paying! The fact of the matter is that for most couples, this is the first time you have ever planned an event of this magnitude. There are lots of moving parts and little details to take care of and that is before you even get to the family politics and societal traditions. Strip away all the emotional baggage from a wedding, and you still have a huge task on your hands. This episode’s guest Erica Greenwold Reisen is the lead planner and designer at Folie à Deux Events. She specializes in authentic, unique events for couples who like to challenge traditions and do their own thing. Erica is going to break down exactly what a Wedding Coordinator does, how to hire them and how much you should invest in their services! A MUST listen Bridechillas!
