Episodes

  • In the first episode of series two, we’ll be looking at what may well be the greatest, most crushing disappointment of all - the future. It's finally arrived and, well, it's not great is it?

Our future-shocked guests are psychologist David Myers, film critic Eddie Harrison, writer, podcaster and TV historian Tim Worthington, and actor Sprite Kirkwood.

Our theme tune was mixed by musician Dan Jackson.

  • In this, the final episode of our current series, we’ll be looking at The Phantom Menace, a film that almost instantly became shorthand for a kind of cataclysmic pop culture disappointment against which all others are measured. And that’s quite an achievement, you have to admit.

Our guests are psychologist David Myers, film critic Eddie Harrison, writer, blogger and cultural commentator Alex-Mell Taylor, and actor Sprite Kirkwood.

  • In this episode we'll be discussing the highly probable existence of life on other planets and why no one really seems to care.

The 2023 Unidentified Aerial Phenomena hearings, in which three seemingly plausible US military veterans testified under oath, appeared to confirm that we've already made first contact, and yet this potentially world-changing information was met with an almost universal shrug of indifference.

In an attempt to find out why, we spoke to psychologist David Myers, film critic Eddie Harrison, the esteemed scientist Professor James M. Scobbie, and our resident Gen Z correspondent Sprite Kirkwood.

    It's a pretty wild journey.

We'd also like to thank actor Laura Hogg for lending her voice to the episode and, as always, musician Dan Jackson for mixing our theme tune.

  • In this episode we’re looking at 2016, a profoundly disappointing year in which the Grim Reaper culled as many beloved celebrities as they could, while also finding time to oversee Britain’s disastrous exit from the European Union and the first inauguration of unending human failure President Donald Trump.

Was David Bowie the anchor being who stabilised our universe? Did the end of the world start here? And why did Generation Z come together over the tragic death of a silverback gorilla? All these questions and more will be answered.

  • In this episode we’ll be discussing Morrissey, an artist whose forthright opinions have, for many, tarnished his reputation beyond repair.

What happens when someone who once spoke so eloquently for sensitive outsiders starts espousing views which offend and anger those people? Can we separate the art from the artist? Or is time to bid farewell to them and their work?

  • In 1999, a low-budget 'found footage' horror film called The Blair Witch Project became a pop culture sensation. It was hyped as one of the most frightening films ever made, and for many it lived up to that hype. But for others it was a massive disappointment - a whole load of fuss about nothing.

In this episode we examine the sharply divided response to the film and delve into the complex, fascinating details of why psychological horror works for some people, while leaving others cold.

Our guests include film critics Eddie Harrison and Lucia Minoz, and musician Kat Orr. Click the links below to enjoy more of their work.
