  • The negative people, the pursuits you dislike and the environments that deplete your joy are costing you fortunes of income and empires of impact.

When it comes to Best of Breed Performance, one of the most valuable things I explain to my clients is the imperative of releasing these success bandits from your life.

The people who steal your fire, smother your ambitions and laugh at your visions are keeping your prosperity chained and your impact small. [This is an extremely important insight].

Having the wisdom and guts to let them go [while still wishing them well on their life's journey] is a total results-changer.

Deleting the energy vampires and drama enthusiasts, methodically and swiftly, will lead to your mindset becoming more positive, your bravery becoming more potent, your work becoming more excellent, your personal life becoming more peaceful and your place in the world becoming more unlimited.

So you can become the person nature truly wants you to be.

  • There is zero point in becoming economically successful yet a failure as a human being.

I’ve met janitors and ski instructors and cabbies who have more grace and dignity and character power than some of the rich, famous and influential that you follow, read of and perhaps even admire.

Fascinating world. The true heroes all too often remain anonymous. And the wrong people get celebrated. I’m not complaining or judging, just reporting and saying.

I’m not knocking anyone, at all. That’s the beautiful thing about a life on Planet Earth. You get to live it the way you want, focus on what matters most to you, wear what fuels your jam and operate as you like.

And yet, one must—from time to time—slow down and reflect on: what truly makes life great? Based on the inspiring lives of those who have found real happiness, true self-respect and a serenity beyond the bounds of reason.

If you’re seeking some strong inspiration to grow your business and self—along with some novel tools to win—go ahead and read (or listen to) my latest book The Everyday Hero Manifesto. Get it here.

  • Sweating via intense exercise most mornings multiplies your income, energy and contribution. It just does.

Given that exercise is one of the finest productivity tools ever created, why not use it more often within a day to get more valuable things done?

Yes–definitely do your morning workout to get you mentally and physically amped for a brilliant day. But then, at the end of your work day, go for that walk or take the swim or nail a run.

Creating a second workout ritual later in your day will give you so much more energy each evening, relax you with your loved ones, minimize the dangerous effects of stress, deliver a deeper sleep and even reduce your cravings later in the night.

I explain my entire weekly planning process in my latest book The Everyday Hero Manifesto as it’s exceedingly powerful if you seek to get a tremendous amount done in a very short time period. It also creates real-life balance between your work pursuits and your family and spiritual life. ⁣ [Please remember - there can be no authentic success and lasting happiness if your daily schedule is misaligned with your deepest values.]⁣⁣ Go ahead and order it here.

  • One must—from time to time—slow down and reflect on: what truly makes life great? Based on the inspiring lives of those who have found real happiness, true self-respect and a serenity beyond the bounds of reason.

One of the top answers, to me, would be: wisdom. The kind that moves you… to exploit past pain to make you more understanding, forgiving and noble.

  • We live in a troubled world. Yes, there is much to applaud and progress to be grateful for.

And yet, mediocrity is infecting the majority. And average is infusing the herd.

All true artistry—work that wows the world and gives you and I the permission to become the creative outlaws we secretly long to be—starts with a dysfunctional perception of reality.

...If you’re not being laughed at a lot, you’re probably not creating very much.

...If you’re not attracting criticism, condemnation and chattering cynicism, likely you’re not producing outright magic.

For the very nature of great art is to scare the timid souls who spend the best hours of their finest days watching television in a subdivision.

Yes, it takes strength of character, deep courage and a craving for originality to break free of the seductive beliefs and habits of the herd...

...And yet, working on these qualities are among the finest moves you can make to build your empire [whether an empire of money or fortunes of creativity, productivity, adventure or contribution to society].

  • Legendary leaders and movement makers of the past have spellbound their followers by deploying the language of hope. And employing the vocabulary of possibility.

And yet in our current culture, too many potentially great people are super sloppy with the words they use.

...if something is good they call it “dope”.

...if something is cool they call it “sick”.

...if you deliver a great performance they’ll say “you murdered it”.

Yet dope and sick and murder are bad. Not good. Right?

The words you use program your self-identity. And your self-identity sets up precisely how you’ll perform, lead and be.

Cleaning out the victimspeak and installing leadertalk will not only upgrade your positivity and your energy, you’ll also notice that you’ll become far more attractive and influential to other people.

There’s zero doubt in my mind that you were made to become a masterful communicator. And by making the traits I share in today's episode your default, you’ll get to genius in the way you connect quicker than you might imagine.

  • Our culture has trained us to seek worldly success—often at the cost of inner peace.

Your spiritual self knows all the answers to your largest questions. It whispers what work you should do and what love you should choose, to those with the ears to hear it.

And here’s the thing, as you build and strengthen that relationship with your highest and best, every other relationship rises with you!

…your relationship with your loved ones, your work, your prosperity and the world at large ascends. Sometimes dramatically. Generally incrementally.

    So fascinating right?

Anyway, just wanted to send you my thoughts on this. In the spirit of service. Because all too often, a rich spiritual life isn’t the primary topic of dinner conversations.

  • We inhabit an era with far too much talk and much too little do.

Look, I’m a serious evangelist for the necessity of rest, renewal and recovery. Wrote a lot about this in The 5AM Club and The Everyday Hero Manifesto.

Elite performance without strategic refuelling leads to an empty well. And sometimes, a chronic illness.

Yet that’s not my point here. My point is, instead, this one: fears unfaced become your limits.

Or another way to put it is that the discomfort of growth is always less than the heartbreak of regret.

Or another way to state it is that the job of a leader is to get things done and the calling of a human is to make their ethical ambitions real.

The more times in a day that you rationalize why you can’t become all that you wish to be or handcraft the life that your best self wants, the more you’ll hardwire the neural circuit of that belief into your brain.

And that which you keep practicing is that which you’ll become a pro at. We become amazing at the things we repeat.

If you keep excusing away your power to do remarkable things, grow stronger amid adversity, and live the life of your ideals, you won’t do the work required to realize these feats.

So your very mental habit will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. And actually limit the glory of your potentially awesome reality.

  • Minimalism is all about stripping away complexity and obsessing with the simplicity of living your days around only a few things.

I’ve been teaching this for two decades. Saying that “minimalism isn’t just a design vibe. It’s a lifestyle.”

Encouraging human beings in fiery pursuit of their private Mount Everests to do less to achieve more.

…To stop chasing complexity and obsess with simplicity.

…To reject maximalism and filling their days with too many activities [and their closets with too many things].

This — is the secret of domain dominance, leading your field and becoming legendary.

  • What hurts us can help us.

Suffering is nature’s way of making you special. The greatest bleed the longest. What I mean by this is that it is actually within the fires of deep difficulty that the dross that covers the gold is burned off.

Life loves you so much that it sends you difficulties to make you strong. In the quiet times of my own life’s largest heartbreaks, I retreated from the world [like a wounded animal retreats to the woods for healing]. And I remained in the wilderness—befriending the pain and allowing it to purify me as much as possible.

Suffering has always provided soil for awesome creativity, next-level productivity and innovation.

  • Life runs fast. It moves swiftly. Time passes quickly.

No matter who you are and where you live and what you do, we all end up as not much more than a pile of ashes in a metal urn or as a bunch of bones under six feet of soil.

Sorry to be so graphic yet not really so sorry. Because reminding you of your mortality is a powerful way to ensure that you live more urgently [in a world full of so many distractions and trivial diversions that our finest moments are stolen from us like a bandit hijacks an unsuspecting traveller, late into the wayfaring night].

So cherish the good that Fortune has sent your way. Celebrate your days in the sunshine. Embrace the life you have worked so hard to create.

And keep making all you touch better.

  • Very few habits are as destructive to human happiness as looking at what others have and do—and feeling that you’re inferior.

Yet in this world of social media and digital diversion, so many of us are spending the better hours of our best days looking at the lives of others and measuring our success by what we see.

Look, we’re tribal and hardwired to fit into the community. Helped us survive on the savanna. It’s normal to watch what others are enjoying and judge yourself against that standard.

Having said this, if you seek happiness and peacefulness you must fight the urge to compare and, instead, train at becoming good at the honouring of the special gifts, unique talents and interesting blessings that make your life your life.

No one alive today thinks quite like you, feels as you do and has the same configuration of strengths and abilities that you have.

  • Frustration is the child of stagnation.

We are most alive when we are making progress [even micro-progress] in the direction of ideals that excite us.

Our spirits take flight when we stand steadfast along the path of the mighty mission and heroic ideals that call out the finest within us.

And when we exercise our native creativity to make things that help others, push our craft to the jagged edges of its farthest limits and lean into what frightens us.

Winning is sensing the dignity of your labour and honouring your craft by optimizing it daily, even if no one applauds your obsession with mastery—because materializing your potential is a gift you grant yourself.

  • The behavior of those we surround ourselves with “primes” the way we will operate.

Research confirms that if a student lives with someone who studies seriously, they adopt the same behavior. People who spend time with others who gossip, watch tragic news and consume toxic television begin to behave similarly. The reality is that human beings are hardwired for daily mimicry. So, choose your associations well.

And that reading a book is having a conversation with the author.

Personally, reading uplifting words fuels my inspiration dramatically [this ritual also causes your dopamine levels to surge nicely].

We live in a world where very few go deep. We seek informal news in bite-sized chunks and scroll our feeds in hot pursuit of glitter. Before 8AM, sit quietly and read from a great human’s autobiography. Or from a text of philosophy. To ground you on what’s important, before you live out your day.
