  • For every 9 boys diagnosed with ADHD, there’s one girl diagnosed. But ADHD isn’t a gender-related condition. It’s that girls and women are so under-diagnosed. One of the reasons is because our symptoms look completely different from the hyperactive boy we all remember from elementary school. In fact, lots of women with ADHD did very well in school, are successful adults with good careers and generally appear to really have their lives together. Case in point—Carolyn! So in today’s episode, you’re getting a look behind the curtain of Carolyn’s mind. And you may find you relate. Let’s dive in.

  • The best (and cheapest) therapy for those small things that get under your skin is sometimes a good venting session so you can get it off your chest and move on with your life! And if you’re not privy to the first-hand vent-a-thon, then being a fly on the wall listening is hopefully equally therapeutic and also maybe entertaining.

Welcome to Rant Therapy, a podcast short powered by the hosts of the Happy Eating podcast, Brierley Horton and Carolyn Williams, where we periodically share our real-life venting sessions with each other—AKA what we’re “so over”.

  • There’s a gene defect that up to 50 percent of us have, but it’s not commonly discussed. It’s called the MTHFR gene, and if you have it your body can’t break down some key B vitamins like it should. The cascade effect is then a higher risk of heart disease, autoimmune diseases, migraines, cancer, and—because this is the Happy Eating Podcast—mental health conditions. In today’s episode, we break down the MTHFR gene: what it is exactly, what the health effects are if you have it, and a super-simple way to “treat” it.

    Supplements Mentioned:

The supplement that Carolyn and her kids take is OrthoMolecular Methyl B12 (contains methyl-folate and B12). This must be ordered through a practitioner which you can do by creating a Fullscript account with us.

  • If the supplement creatine makes you think of sweaty meatheads at Gold’s Gym, you’re in for a big surprise with this episode. Quite frankly, creatine deserves a totally new marketing campaign. In fact, by the end of recording this episode, we came to the same conclusion as today’s expert guest, Jenna Braddock. Every woman should seriously consider creatine supplements for their physical health, body composition, as well as mental wellness. Jenna not only explains the benefits of creatine, but she also shares exactly how much to take and which type of creatine to buy.

  • The Connection Between Seasonal Allergies and Mental Health

Seasonal allergies are about to hit their peak, if they haven’t already. Where we are in the Southeast, everything is coated with a thin layer of yellow pollen right now. Stuffy noses, sore throats, irritated eyes, and fatigue are all common for seasonal allergy sufferers. But could those seasonal allergies also be aggravating your mood? In today’s episode, we’re explaining the very real connection between seasonal allergies and mental health.

  • We have a question for the mothers out there. Have you ever experienced a fierce wave of anger that was triggered in a split second by something seemingly benign like a spilled bowl of cereal? If so, you’ve experienced mom rage. Don’t worry—you aren’t alone. In fact, Minna Dubin wrote an entire—and quite fantastic—book on the topic. In this episode, we get to sit down and chat with her all about her book, her mom rage, and our mom rage. It’s quite cathartic.

What’s more, some of the symptoms of anxiety are quite sneaky. You may write them off as a phase, or a behavior issue, or even a prolonged illness. But, in fact, it could be how anxiety is manifesting in your child. So what are these sneaky signs of anxiety? Let’s find out!
