Episodes

  • Helloooo lovely friends, it’s been a while between episodes but oh my gosh does it feel GOOD to be back recording. I just didn't have the capacity with moving house and setting up a recording space, we also didn’t have internet for about a month there.

BUT I was SO excited to get back behind the mic to record today's episode and chatting with people on here lights a fire in my belly. I have a few more episodes lined up and I’ll probably take a short break when I have this second little babe in mid-July, but also - maybe I won’t because I really love chatting with you all! We will see how we go anyway.

On today's podcast I chat with the lovely Amy from Mamahood Wellbeing - she is over @mamahoodwellbeing on Instagram if you want to give her a follow & check out the epic work she does supporting mothers.

She is a Holistic Nutrition coach and a student Naturopath and in today's episode she shares her experience with birth and postpartum with her two boys who are 13 months apart.

We also speak about bedsharing - and a horrible situation Amy encountered in her years as a police officer, birth trauma and post-natal anxiety.

I’m so thankful for Amy’s openness, vulnerability, and honesty with our chat today that I hope it helps anyone who’s experienced a traumatic birth and/or post natal anxiety in their postpartum.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who has continued to listen to the podcast while I’ve taken some time off recording and to support me over on my Instagram account. I’ve recently changed my account name, it’s now @aimeemaxwell_ but I am still sharing the same postpartum-related content, just with a splash more personal content too.

  • Welcome back to the Post Party Project!

In this week's episode, I chat with the lovely Gracen, who is the mother to Mackenzie and a partner Corey. Gracen talks us through her experience with pregnancy and birth. Gracen and her partner did IVF and ICSI to conceive Mackenzie and from there, an ultrasound picked up that she had a shortened cervix and that she had Vasa Previa - which is where blood vessels from the umbilical cord travel across the cervix and can be very dangerous.

Gracen needed to have a long hospital stay while pregnant and speaks of how hard that was. She managed to reach 37 weeks pregnant before going through with a C-section birth.

Gracen also speaks openly and honestly about her experience with postpartum and the need for putting boundaries in place.

  • Guyyysss today's episode is so good! I was on the edge of my seat listening to Tayla's experience with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Tayla had experienced shakes/jerks for quite a while that were hard to explain. When she’d see medical professionals they weren’t able to diagnose her because they weren’t able to witness them.

After the birth of her firstborn, she experienced a seizure in her sleep which again no one witnessed. She experienced her biggest seizure in the presence of her mum, who called an ambulance.

After this massive seizure, she was diagnosed with Myoclonic epilepsy.

Tayla then talks us through the pregnancy and birth of her second baby, and how it was navigating the medical system with her epilepsy diagnosis.

Tayla is huge on advocating for herself - she really wanted a calm waterbirth with no intervention. After the epilepsy diagnosis, Tayla found that medical professionals would want to monitor and control the birth as much as possible. She dived into research and reached out to her doula and her midwife and didn't stop with one no, she just kept on pushing.

Tayla was able to have an epic waterbirth and her aim was to rewrite the rulebook around pregnancy and birth with epilepsy.

Make sure you follow Tayla on Instagram on any of her accounts:

  • In today’s chat I am joined again by the lovely Jasmine from the Wholesome Heart. Jasmine is a women’s health and nutrition coach, specialising in gut health and banishing the bloat!

Today we dive into Jasmine's pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and some things that popped up for her postpartum that she wasn’t expecting. She had to go back into the hospital to have surgery on a retrained placenta, she was on a lot of antibiotics which then can go through the breastmilk - she chats to us about what we can do to optimise the baby's gut if that happens to us.

I learned so much in today's chat - I hope you get a lot out of it too. It was such a great reminder of some things we can implement today to improve our health no matter what postpartum stage you might be in.

  • In today’s episode, I chat with my friend Gabby about her postpartum experience.

Gabby speaks about her pregnancy and birth with her little girl, Ishani. Gabby had a relatively straightforward pregnancy and was a bit of a pregnancy unicorn - she was glowing and really rocked being pregnant! She had a vaginal birth with no pain relief too - I loved hearing her birth story.

I need to put a trigger warning on today's episode as we mention pregnancy loss and miscarriage. Gabby experienced an Ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of this year and she goes into depth about what that was like and what symptoms to look out for. She then fell pregnant in her very next cycle - she was very excited but unfortunately, it ended in miscarriage. Gabby walks us through what she experienced with that and how she felt throughout.

  • In today’s episode, I chat with the lovely Claudia, who is a first-time mama to her daughter Sadie.

Today she opens up about the anxiety she had throughout her pregnancy which is something I haven't covered before on this podcast. Claudia really opens up about what she went through with it and how she got through it.

She had an extreme needle phobia but pushed through to get the epidural - which unfortunately slipped out and ended up needing it three times. Her birth involved suction, forceps, and an episiotomy and she has found the recovery to be a lot tougher than she expected, unfortunately, she had a bit of damage to her pelvic floor which she is now working on.

Claudia went through quite a lot but is so in love with her daughter she says she’d do it all again in a heartbeat!

  • In today’s episode, I chat with my good friend Kate.

Kate and I met when we were 18 studying to be make-up artists, we did a diploma in makeup artistry. Kate and I have remained friends over the years and there's something so special about knowing someone for so long and then watching them go through each stage of their life and becoming a mother.

Kate works as a counsellor, and it’s fascinating hearing her point of view on how everything unfolded for her postpartum. She speaks about her experience with the birth of her son, he came into the world quite quickly and Kate was unable to have the epidural. She speaks of the shock she felt having a quick birth and of the pressure of breastfeeding and sleep routines - I think a lot of us can relate to these pressures!

Kate is super open with how she felt and what she went through, I really enjoyed today’s episode, and I hope you do too.

  • In today’s episode, I speak with Amba. Amba had a water birth at a birth center here in Perth. She talks about how amazing it was to be in the water - although at the start she said it was the one thing she didn’t want, to be sitting in a pool of blood but after her experience she loved it. Her birth was positive and straightforward and she had a great experience. She speaks of the exhaustion she felt immediately postpartum and the struggles of only having a small family support network here in Perth as a lot of her family lived interstate.
