  • In the studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former Premier League referees Roger Dilkes and FIFA listed Mark Halsey to round up the weekend action in the Premier League, Football League and the two FA Cup Semi-Finals.

    Saturday saw Manchester United overcome a one goal deficit to defeat Tottenham 2-1 in the first FA Cup semi-final of the weekend, in which there were no incidents of concern for Anthony Taylor. But on Sunday there was much discussion surrounding Chelsea's win over Southampton with the Saints being denied an equaliser when Charlie Austin attempted to bundle the ball over the line only for referee Martin Atkinson to award a foul after the striker made contact with Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

    In the Premier League there were penalty decisions at Vicarage Road which the panel clear up whilst at The Hawthorns West Brom came back from 2-0 down to grab a point against Liverpool, but were the Baggies lucky to not give away a penalty and should Ahmed Hegazi have been sent off? Meanwhile in the Football League there was plenty to talk about including Peter Bankes who was confronted by a supporter who charged towards the official after a first-half penalty was awarded to hosts Rochdale.

  • In the studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former Premier League and FIFA referee Mark Halsey and ex West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson to round up the weekend action in the Premier League and Football League.

    Manchester City were confirmed as champions when bottom of the league West Brom beat 2nd placed Man United 1-0, but Jose Mourinho's side might well feel aggrieved their rivals celebrations were not put on hold til next week after Ander Herrera was fouled in the area by Craig Dawson but referee Paul Tierney waved play on.

    The newly crowned champions were in action the previous evening and defeated Tottenham at Wembley but there were two decisions up for debate involving Man City's second goal, and a challenge by Ben Davies on Vincent Kompany. Elsewhere Chelsea's Marcus Alonso may well find himself in trouble after an unpunished stamp as his side beat relegation strugglers Southampton and the panel also reflect back on Gianluigi Buffon's comments midweek surrounding Michael Oliver and Juventus' exit from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.

  • On the show this week Alan Biggs was joined by ex Sheffield Wednesday and England striker David Hirst and, making his first appearance, former Premier League Assistant Referee and ex Training and Development Manager for PRO, Paul Rejer to discuss and dissect another entertaining weekend in the Premier League and Football League.

    Friday evening saw Neil Warnock's Cardiff side beaten to title rivals Wolves after missing not one, but two stoppage-time penalties. Wolves celebrations seemed to anger Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who refused to shake hands with counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo at full-time and said after the game that he "did not want to see" the Portuguese, the panel give their take on the incident.

    Derby day followed on Saturday and there was plenty of drama in Manchester as Man United rallied back from two goals down to beat Man City in a pulsating encounter at the Etihad. Ashley Young was the subject of two key match incidents which the panel look back at whilst should Fernandinho have seen red for a challenge on Jesse Lingard?

  • In The Ref Show studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson to round up the Easter weekend of football in the Premier League and Football League.

    Arsenal scored three second half goals to defeat Stoke City but Potters manager Paul Lambert was incensed at the home side's first goal when Bruno Martins Indi was adjudged to have fouled Mesut Ozil in the penalty area. 

    On Saturday there were appeals for Liverpool's Sadio Mane to be shown a second yellow card after he picked up the ball on the edge of the area but referee Neil Swarbrick settled for a free-kick. Should he have had his marching orders? Whilst over at the Amex Stadium Leicester City grabbed two late goals to overcome Brighton, but Claude Puel was unhappy after Wilfried Ndidi was sent off for foul on Shane Duffy.

    Elsewhere the panel look back at the performance of Andrew Madley who took charge of his first Premier League game as Bournemouth fought back from 2-0 down to grab another important point against Watford.

  • In The Ref Show studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former Premier League winner Chris Sutton alongside the scorer of the first ever goal in the Premier League Brian Deane to round up a weekend of international football as well the action from Leagues 1 and 2.

    Gareth Southgate's England side were victorious on Friday evening with a 1-0 win over Holland after Jesse Lingard scored his first senior international goal. Should England's win have been more comfortable when Marcus Rashford was brought down by a combination of Jeroen Zoet and defender Matthijs de Ligt?

    The panel also look forward to Tuesday night's encounter with Italy, a game that will feature the use of the much debated VAR.

    The guys also broaden the shows usual horizon by delving into the world of cricket after a controversial weekend for the Australian Men's cricket team. Captain Steve Smith said the team's "leadership group" had a plan, carried out by Cameron Bancroft, to tamper with the ball to "get an advantage". Chris, Brian and Alan give their view.

    Elsewhere in the Football League ex Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton discussed his former side's chances in the League 1 promotion chase whilst also looking back at referee John Brooks who took charge of Rochdale's 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe.

  • In The Ref Show studio this week Alan Biggs was joined by former Sheffield Wednesday legends Gary Megson and David Hirst to round up another weekend of football in the Premier League and Football League as well as the FA Cup Quarter Finals.

    There was discussion on the game at the Bet365 Stadium where Stoke narrowly lost 2-1 to Sam Allardyce's Everton but should Cenk Tosun's opening goal have been disallowed, and how did the referee manage the reckless tackle that led to Charlie Adam's dismissal? 

    Elsewhere Mike Dean took charge of Huddersfield's 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace with Christian Benteke aggrieved at not being awarded a penalty when he was pulled in the area whilst in the Football League there was debate on games at Sheffield United, Brentford, Sunderland, and Leeds United who hosted Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

    In the FA Cup, VAR was on duty for three out of the four games and the panel were able to reflect back on a relatively quiet weekend for the system, with just the one incident of note at Swansea where a goal was ruled out for offside with no intervention.

    Craig Pawson took charge of the Saturday lunchtime derby where Man United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford but were the away side denied a penalty when Marouane Fellaini's legs collided with Saido Mane's? The panel also discuss the ugly scenes we saw at The London Stadium with three pitch invasions and fans confronting players; with praise for referee Lee Mason and his team of officials.

    Elsewhere there were talking points at Stamford Bridge where Crystal Palace might feel aggrieved when they had a goal disallowed and did Jordan Ayew deserve to be sent off ten minutes into Swansea's 0-0 draw with Huddersfield?

    In the Football League there was debate on the performances of referees in the Championship including Jeremy Simpson who was on duty in the East Midlands Derby between Derby and Nottm Forest, whilst the team also discuss the incident involving Jamie Carragher and Brian Deane tells us more about about his role within a consortium looking to take over Chesterfield FC.

    There's also discussion on the announcement by IFAB this weekend that VAR will be introduced into the Laws Of The Game. After two months use in England, the controversial system has caused many debates across the country and with this historic landmark, the landscape of football going forward is no doubt going to change.

    In the Premier League there was plenty to cover with decisions at Anfield, King Power Stadium and the AMEX to dissect whilst the big tie of the weekend saw Man City defeat Chelsea at the Etihad, but should Oleksandr Zinchenko have been red carded after a challenge on Victor Moses.

    Elsewhere in the Football League there were plenty of postponements with the country hit by snow last week, but two Lancashire derbies did go ahead. First at Ewood Park there was a top of the table clash with Wigan pegging league leaders Blackburn back to 2-2 but referee Geoff Eltringham came in for criticism on two goals; whilst how did Peter Bankes get on when he took charge of Preston's 3-1 away at Bolton.

  • Joining Alan Biggs in The Ref Show studio today were BBC Sport and Match Of The Day pundit Mark Lawrenson and ex Premier League referee Roger Dilkes to look back over the action in the Premier League and Football League as well as reflect on the first showpiece occasion of the season, the Carabao Cup final.

    Martin Atkinson was in charge of Man United's 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford and delivered a performance of high standard, whilst at Wembley Man City picked up the first trophy of the season comfortably beating Arsenal 3-0, but how did referee Craig Pawson fare and what did the panel make of the VAR on its 11th outing in domestic English football?

    There's discussion on all of the rest of the games in the Premier League whilst in the EFL, there was much debate over the performance of Neil Swarbrick, with the Select Group 1 referee on duty when Sheff Wed were beaten 4-2 at home to Aston Villa.

    We're past the halfway point in the international break with plenty of discussion of the World Cup play-offs from the weekend, in particular Thursday night's action where Northern Ireland could feel aggrieved with the referee after some baffling decisions.

    On Friday, England hosted Germany at Wembley, and for the first time ever in an official UK game we saw the Video Assistant Referee used. The panel give their reaction to that as well as delving into the Football League with action in League's 1 and 2.

    There's discussion on the rest of the Premier League action with praise for Graham Scott, David Wagner and Chris Hughton. In the Championship, Keith and Roger defend Tony Harrington who refereed Millwall and Burton, give their thoughts on Sheffield United's season so far, and Roger Dilkes has praise for the selection of referees in The FA Cup.

    The panel debate the major talking point at Vicarage Road where an altercation between Troy Deeney and Joe Allen led to the Watford striker with his hands round the face of the Stoke midfielder, while in the early kick off in Manchester, Tottenham's Dele Alli was the subject of another confrontation.

    In the EFL, there were words of advice for Darren England, Tony Harrington, Scott Duncan amongst others, whilst in Salford Max Crocombe was sent off for urinating during his side's 2-1 win at Bradford Park Avenue. We also hear from Mark for the first time on his grueling trip to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, as well as the view of the guys on England's u17 World Cup success on Saturday.

  • On The Ref Show this week former PGMOL manager Keith Hackett and ex Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst both joined presenter Alan Biggs in the studio to discuss the best of the action from the weekend.

    There's praise for Andre Marriner and Jon Moss, in charge at Wembley and Stamford Bridge but over at The Etihad there's debate on the topic of simulation, in particular the penalty won by Bernardo Silva. It's an issue which rears it's head more often than and KH believes stricter punishments need to be handed out.

    Over in the EFL both Sheffield clubs are mentioned whilst Tim Robinson comes under scrutiny after refereeing the East Anglian derby between Norwich and Ipswich as well as the games at Leeds and Wolves.

  • Joining Alan Biggs on The Ref Show this week were ex Football League referee Dean Mohareb and former Sheffield United and the scorer of the first ever goal in the Premier League Brian Deane. High on the agenda were the Premier League and EFL play-offs. The all-too-common issue of 'diving' is again a headline of the show, this time the incident with Watford's Richarlison de Andrade during the Watford v Liverpool game. The Manchester Utd V Liverpool game refereed by Martin Atkinson saw an issue initiated by Liverpool's defender Dejan Lovren that was discussed in the show...

    And in the EFL there were incidents for the panel to muse over in another exhilarating weekend of football.

    There was also action in the Football League in League's 1 and 2, with discussion surrounding referees Graham Salisbury, Darren Handley, Scott Oldham and Rob Lewis amongst others whilst Roger discusses a game he refereed back in 1993 where Sheffield Wednesday took on Newcastle....

  • Joining Alan Biggs on The Ref Show was former FIFA and Premier League referee Mark Halsey and ex Sheffield Wednesday and England midfielder Carlton Palmer to discuss week 7 of the Premier League as well as the latest action in the Football League.

    There's debate on Dele Alli who picked up a booking in Tottenham's 4-0 win at Huddersfield. The England midfielder was cautioned in the win as he tried to win a penalty in the second half. There's also discussion on the big tie of the weekend where Man City's Kevin de Bruyne scored the winner against his former club Chelsea to take the Citizens top of the league as well as the rest of the ties this weekend.

    In the Football League there's the big Yorkshire derby with Leeds going down 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday, the panel look back on the game, whilst Carlton also discusses his new book 'It is What it is'.

  • On The Ref Show this week, Alan Biggs was joined by BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson and former Referee Manager for the PGMOL Keith Hackett to discuss what was considered a successful weekend for referees in the football leagues.

The Wiltshire official oversaw Sheffield United's 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday and his performance was highly praised. There's also discussion on another derby north of the border as Celtic beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox.

    In the Premier League we round up the action in all the games including discussion on Wayne Rooney's Everton, Chris Kavanagh during Burnley's 0-0 draw with Huddersfield and much more on this week's The The Ref Show.

  • In the Ref Show studio this week, former Football League referee and Youdan Trophy Director Dean Mohareb and ex Manchester United coach Paul McGuinness joined Alan Biggs to discuss another exciting weekend of football in the Premier League and Football League.

    Last week we saw Liverpool's Saido Mane sent off for a high foot challenge on Man City goalkeeper Ederson; fast forward a week and David Luiz produces a similar challenge on Laurent Koscielny in Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Arsenal. The Brazilian however only received a caution, before being sent off later for another reckless challenge. The pundits discuss both incidents as well as the rest of the action from Gameweek 5 in the Premier League.

    Two high challenges resulted in two different outcomes with Liverpool's Saido Mane seeing red after colliding with Man City goalkeeper Ederson in the Saturday midday kick-off. Then on Sunday, Newcastle's Matt Ritchie produces a similar challenge on Swansea's Alfie Mawson, only to receive a caution. Get the panel's view on whether both decisions were correct.
    There's also discussion on the rest of the games in the Premier League and the EFL, as well as praise for Bibiana Steinhaus. She became the first female referee to officiate in the German Bundesliga in Hertha Berlin's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen.

    Mark Halsey, Andy Hogg, Guy Beale and Roger Dilkes took charge of both games and Mark reflects on being involved in raising money for the Grenfell Tower fire disaster and young Bradley Lowery's brave fight against neuroblastoma.
