Video Games Criticism â Fans and Journalists.
In the tradition of an older (but still beautiful) podcast once put together by DocBrown and WillyBeans, the duo take on the current state of video games criticism. We talk the highs, we talk the lows. Are people overly positive? Overly negative? Does copyediting even matter? Does copyediting even mater? Is there any useful information to be gleaned from websites anymore, or are they all just trying bending over backwards for the coveted click?
AndâŠ.Twitter, guys. What up with that?

We donât think so (but it really is a bit of a love-in). Canis Lupis Lupis.

Gaming 180s
One day, WillyBeans played The Last Guardian and absolutely despised it. Another day, WillyBeans played The Last Guaridan and absolutely loved it. Horrible Game Memories.
Rather than revisit the jump scares of dogs breaking through windows in Resident Evil, this Halloween Doc and Beans talk about some of the most truly horrifying moments in their own personal gaming history. These ghoulish topics include renting a game that looked absolutely amazing and turned out to be absolutely not amazing, regrettable incredibly expensive game/console purchases, suffering through awkward cutscenes in front of loved ones, and the jump scares of dogs breaking through windows in Resident Evil. Boo!

Sierra On-Line.
Look, we get it: over the years youâve listened to countless podcasts, read countless articles, and heard countless stories about how great Sierra On-Line was back in the 80s and 90s.
Too bad. Youâre going to hear it again.
Wait! Come back! We promise to not just talk about the adventure games! (But we ARE going to talk about the adventure games)
We dig into all the things that made this company incredibly special. We talk about the people, the culture, the games, the nostalgia â and we donât even mention the cat hair moustache puzzles!

Final Fantasy XIII
Against all odds, despite all of the roadblocks, in defiance of all the prophecies, we talk about Final Fantasy XIII for a couple of hours. For one of the hosts, it is a glorious, glorious time. For the other host, it is something heâll never have to talk about ever, ever again. Probably.
They said that such a topic could never be discussed on our show.
But we did it.
They tried to silence us.
But we would not be silenced.
They tried other dramatic stuff, too.
You could say, that not even fate could stand in our way.
Also: Beans backpedals from his initial hate-on for the Secret of Mana remake, and Docâs got a bone to pick with misplaced accents.

What do you get when you put Luke Skywalker in Top Gun? Beats us! But who cares? Weâve got more important thing to worry about! This week weâre talking about Wing Commander!!! The whole series. Even some of the weird ones! We start from its very humble beginnings as a pretty cool story-driven space shooter, to an absolutely insane multimillion dollar video game production boasting some of the most exciting story telling of its time, and finally concluding with its swan song as an absolutely insane multimiillion dollar movie production boasting some of the most boring and cliched story telling of its time! Chalk another one up for the Maniac! Also on tap this episode: DocBrown gets himself some Playstation VR, while Beans gets himself some grade A cynacism about a Secret of Mana remake. Remember a time when video games werenât all about chasing bad people down maze-like corridors in various locales throughout the world so that you could murder them in uneding numbers with an unreasonable assortment of guns and buckets of ammunition?
We vaguely do!
This week we talk about the first person shooter life. We revisit the humble days of classic games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, and we trace the evolution of the genre up to the present day with smoking hot modern hits like the new Doom and the new Wolfenstein. What makes those FPSes so damn special for so many people?
In our first segement this week, Beans wonders why people are so eager to get to the end of most games, while Doc wishes he had a way to quickly get to the end of most games.
Come get some!

Infinity Engine games, man! Baldurâs Gate, Icewind Dale. Whatâs not to love?! Following some chat about the horrible Xbox One D-Pad, some talk about game books, and some gushing over the HTC Vive, Doc Nâ Beans take you on a whirlwind tour of all things that once lived within the coded walls of Biowareâs Infinity Engine. Beans might lean a little bit too negative, Doc might lean a little bit too positive â making for a discussion where the balance is juuuuuuust right. Well folks, this is it. The apocalypse. whoa. Iâm waking up, I feel it in my bones. Radioactive. Radioactive! Thatâs right. Finally.FINALLY.Finally WillyBeans is able to speak unironically about his love of the Sonic Boom cartoon. And he means it. If that doesnât grab your fancy, perhaps youâll be interested to hear a manâs dream come true? For at long last DocBrown has achieved his only boyhood wish as he is given a platform to talk about the entirety of the Dragon Quest series from its very meager beginnings to itsâŠwellâŠvery confusing and uncertain future. A New Year means a new opportunity to take a breath and consider whatâs coming up in the world of videogames! We kick things off by talking about the soon to be released Nintendo Switch. The converstation pretty much goes exactly the opposite of what you might expect. Hardcore Nintendo fan and WiiU owner WillyBeans gives the hardware a pass, while noted hardcore dedicated WiiU not-owner DocBrown shells out some green for a preorder. Oh these crazy times we live in! Staying remarkably positive about the general outlook on things, we have a grand talk about the videogame series and trends that we hope to see silently fade away, and the many things that weâre digging about games lately that we hope will stick around. Good episode, really. Fascinating conversations. Lots of positivity. 2017 is looking like itâs going to be just fine. Music this episo [...]

Special guest stars Jerry OâConnell and Gimli join us to talk about one of the most 90s shows of the 1990s: ER. Was the show better when George Clooney was in the cast? Remember how a young Doctor Carter taught us all to love? Or that episode where that guy lost his arm to the helicopter! Yeowch!! Oh! Or how about when Uncle Jesse joined the cast?!
But first, WillyBeans talks about solo play gamebooks and the state that theyâre in for the 21st century. He is in love with them, and he wants you to hear how exciting they are so that you can fall in love, too! To skip Willybeansâ boring discussion of gamebooks scrub to 20:35.
Next, DocBrown talks about his feelings on the first hour of Final Fantasy XV (spoiling events from the first hour of the game and most of the movie FFXV: Kingsglaive). To skip his boring discussion of FFXV (or if you just want to stay âspoilar freeâ) scrub to [...]

After FINALLY recovering from all the horrible diseases that our children insist on bringing home, WillyBeans FINALLY gets to talk about his feelings on Dragon Quest VII on 3DS. Warning: you may be completely unsurprised by what you hear! From here, the episode hits its main topic: a discussion on the games, game trends, and trendy games that we simply just donât understand. Please join in us in trying to comprehend why so many popular tropes in games are still around today. Why are so many bad things still a thing?! Itâs a lifelong dream realized: WillyBeans gets to spend nearly an entire episode talking about Metal Gear Solid Vee. The good, the bad, and the very good. Thankfully, DocBrown is there with his ârealityâ to help keep the discussion grounded and reasonable. Warning: sometimes he tries to say that MGS V is not perfect. Heâs so crazy! Also this episode: DocBrown canât understand the adoration the masses have for the stagnant Call of Duty series, while Beans is in disbelief that people arenât losing their damn minds with excitement over PS VR.Kiefer Sutherland, youâre alright.
