  • This Wednesday we're joined by creative marketer Phoebe Christoforou, currently working at a record label in London!

Starting from one of the most niche degrees we've ever heard of and then leaving in her first year, Phoebe began her marketing career in 2017 by writing a music blog and then landing an apprenticeship at a record label.

If you're worried about starting your career without experience, this is one for you. Phoebe shares what to expect in your first years in industry and why you shouldn't be afraid of jumping in at the deep end (say yes to joining client presentations! Say yes to networking events! Say absolutely yes to sending a follow up email to that agency you want to work for!).

There's been some huge brands jazzing up their visual identities recently, or just completely overhauling their style and direction (looking at you, Dolmio), so get your wellies on as we're deep diving into the sea of rebranding. We're chatting about Dolmio's decision to get rid of their Italian puppets, Pets at Home's wonderful wordplay, Norwich Castle's unique challenge of capturing a new audience while holding onto their thousand-year heritage, and Stella's decision to align themselves with streetwear.

It's also Archie's last episode! He's going back to uni to complete his final year and leaves some big Yoots! shoes to fill on the pod. Bye Rory!

  • 2 designers, a marketer, and a web developer walk into a room and they... talk about Pepsi and social media. The Gen-Z culture is strong in this podcast studio. This week we're talking about Pepsi's 90s-fuelled rebrand (an absolute yes to the saturated colours and nostalgic vibes!) and whether social media plays a role in becoming successful! In an era where social media presence is the norm, this episode is dedicated to the pressure (or lack of) that social media has on our professional lives.

We also took to Reddit this week to understand how the freelance design community handles social media pressure. Freelancers are already designers, accountants, and project managers. Adding social media expert to the list is a stressful addition to an already hectic schedule—so is the pay off worth it?

  • Interested in working in fashion or starting your own business?

With 8 years experience in the fashion industry, studying at 3 different universities, and now an independent fashion designer, Gabriele Gabija has some incredible advice. A womenswear designer creating sustainable fashion and wearable tech at her brand Cult Tellus, Gabriele joined us to share how she found her first jobs post-uni in the fashion industry, how to boost your employability (hint: you can start these tips right now!), and the best ways to optimise your portfolio.

Gabriele also explains the importance of valuing your work and why knowing what you want from your internships is essential—find out how Gabriele advocated for herself on her early internships and went from courier duties to learning the ropes.

Some of the biggest obstacles to starting your own business are having the funds, skills, and confidence to get going. • Introducing... Matt! Matt finally made his podcast debut this week to chat about Teal Triggs' recent research and project Brave New Normal: Intergenerational Mentoring + Women in Graphic Design, his experiences in the industry so far, and to discuss burnout in the creative sector.

Following International Women's Day, we delved into Teal Triggs research: which uncovered that 79% of women in the creative sectors had left the industry—could this be because women in the creative industry feel unheard, undervalued, and not respected?

As the work and life boundaries become ever more blurred as more and more people begin to work from home, Matt spoke to us about his experience with a poor work/life balance and how he prevents falling back into that habit now. The Yoots of Reddit spoke about their experiences with burnout in the creative industry—we read out the best comments on this episode, but you can read the other 94 comments talking about what made them burn out and how to prevent it here.

We also learned some new Polish words courtesy of Archie and his trip to Warsaw. Cieszyć się!
