In the Jewish culture, lentils are an important food whose round shape symbolizes the cycle of life. In Arabic culture lentils are asassociated with prosperity. Many other cultures attach significance to lentils as well, including Italian and Hungarian people who consumed lentils on BBC New Year's Eve to being about wealth and prosperity since they can be shaped like coins.
