  • Welcome to Session Five of our spring audio Bible study! We're studying The Gospel on the Ground, and we're so excited to join Kristi McLelland as she unpacks the life of the early church in the book of Acts and shows us that the kingdom of God is always on the move, always looking outward to bring meaning and joy to a world searching for true fulfillment and hope.

Each week, we'll release the next teaching session, and we'll leave the audio up for all seven sessions through June 16.

In a Roman world that was divided by power and prestige, the early church stood out for their unity across class and race as the wealthy elite shared table fellowship with slaves. More than that, members of the early church sacrificed to make sure others had what they needed, to the praise and honor of God. In Session Five, Kristi challenges us to model that same Christ-centered unity in our own homes and use our kitchen tables to welcome others so we can share the love of God with them.

  • Welcome to Session Four of our spring audio Bible study!

In Session Four, we continue to discuss the witness of the early church in the world, the godly Kingdom of Abundance moving into an Empire of Scarcity. Members of the early church set themselves apart in the way they loved others, their refusal to worship the emperor and their willingness to lay down their lives for the kingdom of God. Kristi encourages us to follow God’s call on our lives because He alone is worthy of our worship.

  • Welcome to Session Three of our spring audio Bible study! We're studying The Gospel on the Ground, and we're so excited to join Kristi McLelland for the next seven weeks as she unpacks the life of the early church in the book of Acts and shows us that the kingdom of God is always on the move, always looking outward to bring meaning and joy to a world searching for true fulfillment and hope.

Each week, we'll release the next teaching session, and we'll leave the audio up for all seven sessions through June 16.

In our study of the early church and the Book of Acts, a deeper knowledge of the Roman Empire will illuminate our understanding of the context of Scripture. In Session 3, Kristi contrasts the Roman Empire, the empire of entertainment that appeals to the worldly desires, with the Kingdom of God, a kingdom of celebration that leads to ultimate fulfillment and joy.

  • Welcome to Session Two of our spring audio Bible study!

In Session 2, we dive into the story of Pentecost in Acts 3 as understood through a Middle Eastern Lens. Kristi expounds on the biblical metaphor comparing the kingdom of God to a mustard seed and the tenacious nature of mustard seed in Israel. She reminds us that much like a mustard seed, the kingdom of God is on the move, growing and spreading out to every tribe, tongue, and nation on earth.

  • We’re kicking off the new year with a leadership miniseries! You’ll hear from leaders about women in leadership working with mostly men, advice they would give to their younger selves, strategies and tools for leading well, and more.

Cynthia Phillips is the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Lifeway. In this episode, Cynthia shared tools and strategies she has used in her leadership journey, as well as her passion for ministering to blended families. She also encouraged women as they minister and witness to family members who don't share their faith. Read her list of tips below:

What encouragement would you have for the woman whose family believes differently than she does?

Don’t give up.Don’t compromise on what you believe, but don’t let it get in the way of meaningful connections.Live your faith and be consistent.Pray and seek wisdom.Ask God for clarity on His role/purpose for you in/with your family.Remember that God loves them more than we do. We do our part and leave the rest to Him.

What advice would you have for a younger Cynthia on leadership?

Determine your priorities. Commit to keep your priorities.Don’t work so much and make time for what is really important—you can’t get time back.

We are in a leadership series. As a woman in leadership, share some strategies or tools that help you to be an effective leader.

Be real/authentic. Stay true to who you are, what you believe, and what you stand for. Seek feedback and always listen and learn. Adapt and adjust. Anticipate and be self-aware. Listen to your gut/Holy Spirit/intuition.
