  • Victor Cho, CEO of Emovid comes back to the podcast. In our first conversation he mentioned his passion for the topic of the Fourth Stakeholder and the role of business in society. We agreed that since it was a topic we both loved, rather than discussing it in that episode we would dedicate a whole episode to it. So here he is.

In the past 30 years, business has moved from a world where CEOs were expected to optimize for one stakeholder (shareholders) to three, adding customers and employees. As the environment becomes even more complex and we become aware of the direct and second order impacts that businesses has on society, Victor discusses a framework that CEOs can start to adopt to decide how to manage the Fourth Stakeholder - society at large.

  • Today's guest is Ali Cox, founder and CEO of Noble West, a marketing consultancy that specializes in food ingredients, agriculture and the entire agricultural ecosystem. Ali is not your typical CEO – before starting her business career, she won a world championship gold medal and an Olympic silver medal, in rowing. At the time she won it, in 2004, the US had not medaled since 1976 in her event, the women’s 8, and that team’s win launched an era of historic dominance for the US in the event.

In this episode, Ali discusses her transition from a professional athlete to a marketing and advertising professional, the evolution of her leadership style, and her mission-driven approach to improving the food supply chain. The conversation touches on the challenges of leading a remote team, the importance of setting clear expectations, and the significance of building trust within her organization. And since she is an expert in the food I also asked her for some advice for consumers on making informed food choices.

  • Today we talk about branding and leadership with Carlos Williams, the founder of DBC, a creative agency that leverages data and equity to connect brands with their audiences. Carlos shares his unique perspective on leadership influenced by historical city-states.

We started the conversation going way back to his experiences in elementary school, where he was always the smartest kid in the class, and how he had to mature and adapt as he went through high school and college, his experiences working as a designer for a large consulting firm and then using that as a springboard to launch his own company.

We also havea very candid conversation of what it means to be a minority owned business, and some of the struggles that black owned businesses face vs. other businesses. Finally, he shares why he decided to keep his company a fully remote company, and what are some of the advantages that come from that structure.

  • Our guest today is Simon T Bailey, anAward-winning keynote speaker, coach, and author who spent his formative years working in the hospitality business, working for companies like Hyatt and Disney.

In our conversation, we discussed Simon’s approach to leadership and developing people and his fascinating journey. Simon’s story began as the classic American story – starting from the bottom of the ladder in the hospitality business, Simon built a career through commitment and hard work, until he had to take a hard turn. He shares a big mistake he made, and how that stopped his corporate career. His exact word are actually “I totally committed career suicide”.

But as often happens in these cases, crisis becomes a key turning point. Despite the fact he had secured a lucrative corporate offer, Simon decided to follow his passion for speaking in public, teaching and developing people and he bet on himself. The rest is easy to imagine.

Like all good stories it has a happy ending, as Kelly takes us through how these experiences led her to a journey of personal, spiritual and professional transformation, and ultimately informed her mission to guide leaders through their past to enhance their influence and effectiveness.

  • Some business expressions become so overused that they end up losing their meaning. At the end of every episode of Authentic Leadership for Everyday People I ask my guests what is the business jargon that drives them crazy.

It's a question that was designed to get to know them a little better, and maybe be a little irreverent. What I learned 140 episodes in is that the answers span the range from funny to surprising and sometimes deep, and very time they are really insightful.
