  • This episode features a conversation with Linedy Genao (Bad Cinderella), Taylor Iman Jones (Head Over Heels), Fran Tapia (On Your Feet), and Maiga Vidal about Maiga’s new musical: Café Con Leche.
With book, music, and lyrics by Maiga Vidal, Café Con Leche is an original romantic comedy set in Los Angeles with an all-Latinx cast. The new musical follows Alejandra, an accountant who longs to be the perfect immigrant daughter for her parents, even if it means staying in the closet forever. When a rent hike threatens to close her parent’s American-style donut shop for good, Alejandra, with the help of mysterious new customer Megan, opens Café Con Leche, a Latino-themed coffee spot, to moonlight after-hours at the store to make extra money. As her feelings for Café Con Leche and Megan grow, Alejandra begins to question just how much she’s willing to hide to keep her parent’s love.
This episode features the song “California Cappuccino Donut Coffee” performed by Fran Tapia and Rubén Flores.

  • In this episode, we continue our conversation with Sean McCabe and Jinhee Kim about their new musical: Saint Sebastian.
Saint Sebastian is a queer coming-of-age musical comedy, set on a Christian retreat farm over one Easter weekend. At the heart of the story is the relationship of Sebastian, a sheltered, naïve kid whose parents own the farm, and Jamie, a housing-insecure kid staying at the farm with his single mother. It’s a story about socioeconomic privilege, the awkwardness of adolescence, and queerness in conflict with religious tradition.
This episode features the songs “Hallelujah High” performed by Tori Lynn, Naima Alakham, Nicole Tsarouhas, Maya Thomas, Stephen Mellen and many other talented performers, as well as “Only Trees” performed by Mike Cefalo.

  • In this episode, we continue our discussion with Jennifer Lucy Cook, T.J. Pieffer, and Shelby Solla about their new musical SALEM.
    Salem
Outlandish conspiracy theories; misinformation spreading like wildfire; and an infamously controversial trial in the early 90’s. Yep, this is 17th century New England.
SALEM is a dark musical comedy that follows two Puritan teenagers, Abby and Betty, as they plant accusations of witchcraft in an attempt to con their way out of the oppressive theocratic swamp town of Salem, Massachusetts. After pushing the limits of townie gossip, they find themselves centered in a web of witchy conspiracies more intricate than they ever could’ve imagined.
With pamphleteers presented as 1690’s cable news anchors, deliciously danceable pop musical numbers, and an apparition of the Devil forged from the imagination of a teenage girl, this is not your high school English teacher’s take on "The Crucible.”
This episode features the songs ‘An Idle Brain Invites the Devil In’, performed by Jennifer Lucy Cook and ‘Witch Hunter General’ performed by Peter White and Jennifer Lucy Cook. The musical tracks were co-produced by Jennifer Lucy Cook and Peter White.
