  • Holidays and family gatherings are the ultimate test of our ability to be with ourselves, and how well we’ve healed from our personal difficulties. When people come together, it triggers all sorts of challenges - unspoken tensions and tribal rules, old behavioral patterns, and people acting out because they can’t express their own wants.

    In these environments, it’s really easy to get outside of ourselves and get swept up by the drama of the dynamic, and stay there until it depletes us…but it doesn’t have to be that way.

    There’s a way for us to stay in equilibrium and circulate our attention so that we’re caring for ourselves while authentically engaging with others. All of this starts with understanding what we want, being able to receive it, and then loving ourselves enough to be with ourselves.

    From there, we can create a little home within when things get weird, tense, or challenging.

    How does the act of looping our awareness make for a better experience when being around people? How do we identify when we need to tend to our own wellbeing? In this episode, we talk about how to deal with all the complex emotions and patterns that are triggered by family gatherings.

  • The word “no” is two simple letters, but it’s one of the hardest things to say, especially for women. We’re taught to always be agreeable, accommodating and automatically say yes to anything we’re asked to do.

    That’s why people can go their whole lives without actually knowing how to say ‘no’. So our default answer is “oh sure” or “yes, of course” even if it’s to our own detriment.

    Our place of ‘no’ is already inside us, we just have to find it and vocalize it in order to release our genuine power. It might feel unfamiliar, and we may have to practice at first, but honoring our ‘no’ is the only way to truly own our space and stand in our power.

    Why is it so hard to say no? How do we build our no muscles? In this episode, we talk about why we don’t know how to say no, and how to make a place for it in our vocabulary.

  • Many of us live our lives at an interesting intersection. There’s the structure of life and things that need to get done, and the curiosity, inquiry and pondering of the meaning of everything. We’re constantly asking questions from a place of deep introspection.

    It’s the way we are, and perhaps the way we’ve always been.

  • When we’re young, we’re encouraged to play, learn new things and express our creativity in endless ways. As we grow up, we find out that we can’t carry that same energy into adulthood - that society places an expiry date on learning new things. If you’re a grown up, it’s time to be responsible, serious, predictable - there’s no room for play and discovery.

    Not only is that no fun at all, it also robs us of two things that make life worthwhile - curiosity and creativity.

    Meeting life with an attitude of curiosity is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a successful life, but we’re often taught to block ourselves off from that.

    The good news is, we can interrupt this pattern and bring unexpected curiosity into our daily lives. But first, we have to welcome creativity with both arms, and be okay with things being messy and unpredictable.

  • The path from self-destruction to self-love isn’t a straight line. Often when we commit to a kinder relationship with ourselves, we falter and self-sabotage and that leads to guilt and shame, which leads to more self-sabotage.

    But shame will never fuel a real transformation.

    What if we could interrupt this spiral with something more friendly? What if we could tap into even the tiniest amount of self-love?

    Most people don’t realize that shame is actually a fuel, and our society conditions us to feed our souls that way, but it doesn’t work. Like eating junk food everyday, you get a certain type of nourishment, but it doesn’t actually sustain us. That’s why we’re starved for a sense of our own worthiness, and try to fill our reservoir with all the wrong things.

    When we love ourselves through self-sabotage, we stop getting fuel from beating ourselves up and start to mend the hole inside and fill our reservoir with self-love.

  • When two or more people find themselves at the crossroads of a fundamental decision, the advice they are often given is to compromise.

    But compromise doesn’t actually lead to a solution that fulfills everyone. More often than not, it leaves both sides feeling like they got robbed, and it kills the connection necessary to come up with something better.

    Good news - even in the most seemingly impossible choice, there is an option that honors everyone. Our “either/or” society doesn’t teach us to look for it, so we’re constantly working with limited creative possibilities when so much more is accessible.

    When we bring curiosity into the space and lead with a willingness to resolve, that’s when we access the many other options that serve everyone better.

  • Attention is one of the most important aspects of human existence, but also the most misunderstood and misused.

    When we give attention to ourselves in a nurturing and curious way, it’s a powerful medicine that supports our essence and self-love. When we seek it through external validation it becomes a destructive drug we can never get enough of.

    So many people get these two things mixed up and find themselves leaning more on the attention they receive for what they do and achieve.

    Of course attention and affection from people who love us is incredibly nourishing, but instead of making it the whole cake, it should just be the cherry on top!

  • In order to be, play and love, we have to become very intentional about where we’re placing our attention. Now, we might think attention is something we do from our critical and conscious mind, but true attention comes from our body wisdom.

  • The whole point of living in true connection with others is the social exchange of giving and receiving love and care. Many of us don’t have any problem with the giving part - we do that freely. But when it comes to being the recipient of that gift? Not so much, and it manifests in many ways.

    You could be the caregiver struggling to carve out space to care for yourself.

    Or you’re the friend not sure exactly how to be there for someone in a vulnerable time.

    Perhaps you’re the care-getter feeling uncomfortable with needing others. Or maybe someone did something nice for you and you’re putting yourself under intense pressure to reciprocate.

    In all these instances, we run into the difficulty we have with the concept of care. The thing is: the river of connection has to flow for connection to flourish. Any resistance to care actually stops the flow and robs us of the richness of aliveness.

  • In our relationships with others, there are going to be wrinkles, miscommunications and misunderstandings. Depending on how they are dealt with, they can make bonds stronger or break them down completely.

Her unique coaching and leadership programs have generated hundreds of body intelligence and relationship coaches in the U.S. and Europe.     Sophie Chiche is a seasoned coach and consultant who has traveled the world working with thousands of people and dozens of teams. With a passion for fully expressed living, Sophie coaches, and facilitates group sessions to help people and teams remove what gets in the way of them living their most meaningful lives.Not only does she work with clients to design the life they want, but she's also developed methods, mindsets shifts, and healing modalities to create it elegantly. Born in Paris, raised in Barcelona, and lived in LA for 30 years, Sophie now lives in the middle of nowhere Arizona, where she rides her Harley with her boo, Wall. And plays a lot of pickleball.

  • There’s a reason why it’s so hard to silence or ignore our inner critic. It’s the same reason why we doubt our own experiences and body wisdom. It’s also why we often feel like in order to be lovable we need to do more instead of just being ourselves.

    Childhood is our most sensitive phase. We’re like sponges soaking up everything around us with no filter. Unfortunately, some of the things the adults did (or didn’t do) become wounds that follow us into adulthood. So many of us grew up pickled in criticism, so we never felt like we were enough. The critical words we hear become the soundtrack of our lives, and even though we try, we just can’t shake them.

    Here’s the thing: the core YOU is lovable as you are. Instead of being fueled by the approval and love of others, we have to shift to being our own source of love and approval. That’s how we heal from the wounds and experiences of our early years.

  • Our culture has taught us to put an emphasis on and trust only in the information we get from our brains. At best, we completely ignore what our bodies have to tell us, and at worst we treat our body and its sensations like the enemy. When we don’t tap into our body’s wisdom, we’re operating without the richest source of information available to us.

    Our bodies are our friends - they provide a level of wisdom we can’t get from our minds. They tell us what’s giving us life and what’s taking it away. They give us insight into the areas we need to heal emotionally, and they communicate a lot faster than the most brilliant brain ever could. They give us the tools we need to navigate fear and other challenges. If you’re disconnected from your body you’re robbing yourself of this vast and lush garden.
