Episode 135: After a brief moment of peace and prosperity for Israel, they were once again thrust into turmoil as Ben-Hedad besieged the city causing severe famine for Samaria. Food became so scarce that women were eating their children. Furious, the King sent for Elisha to be killed. When the King's Commander arrived to lure him out, he received word from Elisha of God’s miraculous deliverance. But, the Commander did not believe the Words of God, and so he would not live to enjoy the blessing.

Episode 134: Israel was at war once again, this time against the King of Aram. However, the God of Israel, who knows all, would inform Elisha of what the King of Aram was planning and Elisha would, in turn, inform his King. This constant outmaneuvering irritated the King of Aram and he sent soldiers to hunt for Elisha. When the army of Aram arrived at Dothan they surrounded Elisha and his servant. But Elisha was unafraid because He could see the armies of heaven surrounding the armies of Aram. So he prayed and God delivered the men of Aram into Samaria, the land of their enemy. But instead of bloodshed, they were given a feast, and God’s mercy was revealed to the nations.

But even in such a moment of joy, evil was at work. Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, gave in to his greed and pursued Naaman for gifts of his own. Little did he know that God saw this and made it known to his master. Gehazi and his descendants would be forced to carry the consequences of his actions forever.

However, his servant talked to him gently and he softened his heart to obey. And as he dipped into the waters of the Jordan; his heart and his body were made new.

Episode 131: One day as Elisha was in the town of Shunem, he was taken in by a wealthy woman and her family. He felt at home there and every time he would visit Shunem, he would stop by her house. This happened so often that she and her husband built a room for him on the roof. Elisha asked what he could do to repay the woman for her kindness, but she needed nothing. Instead, noticing she had no children, he prophesied that she would have a son. Soon after the promised child arrived, he died, however, this was not the end of his story and her mother would soon find her joy restored by God’s power.

Each of these events showed how God cares about the everyday life and struggles of his people. Something you and I can take comfort in even today.

Episode 129: Joram, King Ahab’s son was now King over Israel, and for 12 years he built a kingdom that fed his self-importance. Sick of being under Israelite subjugation, the nation of Moab rose in revolt. King Joram quickly sent word to King Jehoshaphat and the nation of Edom asking for help. As the three kings and their armies were marching up for battle they ran out of provisions. Frightened, the kings sent for Elisha that he might inquire of God on their behalf. Then Elisha prophesied water for the men, and victory over the Moabites.

As they continued walking along the path the sky opened up and chariots of fire descended to receive Elijah taking him away.

Episode 127: As the King returned to Judah, he was dejected and downcast. To make matters worse, the prophet Jehu came to visit him telling him the folly of his choices. But he also encouraged the King, and Jehoshaphat took heart and toured the land. As he was breeding a culture of love and justice in the kingdom of Judah, his enemies took notice. The Moabites saw this as weakness and decided to strike! Threatened by their numbers, King Jehoshaphat called for the entire nation to seek God. And God told Jehoshaphat that this is one battle he would not have to fight.

Episode 126: Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, spent his time fortifying cities and tearing down idols. He also sent teachers and priests to the surrounding territories so that they might know God. What the King was doing became so influential that even other nations such as the Philistines took notice and sent tribute. Jehoshaphat wanted to extend this peace to his brothers in Israel, so he made an alliance with King Ahab. During their celebration, King Ahab requested Jehoshaphat’s help in reclaiming some territory. But Jehoshaphat wanted to hear from the Lord first. So Micaiah was called in and prophesied that this battle would be King Ahab’s last.

Episode 125: In Israel, there was a man named Naboth who lived close to the land of the king. Naboth had a beautiful vineyard that had been handed down in his family for generations. Naboth loved his vineyard and saw it as a gift from God to himself. But King Ahab also saw it and wanted it for himself. When Naboth refused Ahab, he left to go sulk to his wife. Jezebel was quick to plan and execute Naboth’s murder. Though she was crafty, her involvement did not go unseen. And God would not let her or her husband go unpunished.

Episode 124: Ahab, sore from being made a fool by God’s display at Mount Carmel, went home to complain to his wife Jezebel. Filled with anger at his actions, Jezebel sends a death threat to Elijah. When Elijah received the message, he fled until he had no strength left. Collapsing by a tree he begged God to take his life. But God showing him compassion sent an angel to provide for his needs and prepare him for the long journey ahead. A journey where he would meet with God Himself and be encouraged.

When he found him, he lied to him and brought him back into the city to enjoy a meal. But during the meal, God made his message clear that this meal would be his last because of his disobedience.

Episode 118: Jeroboam, Israel’s new king, built a new capital in Shechem to separate themselves from Judah. However, because the temple of God was in Judah, people would still travel from his kingdom to worship in Judah. Jeroboam feared this would lead to the loss of his kingdom and his life. So he, like Aaron so many years before, made two golden calves and introduced them as Israel's new gods. Slowly Jeroboam added more and more idols into Israel’s public worship. God would not stand for the corruption of His people and sent a prophet to let him know what would become of his idolatrous altar.

This idolatry not only tore apart his relationship with God but would tear the kingdom from his hands as well. During the reign of his son Rehoboam, Jeroboam, one of his servants who had fled from him, returned. He came to confront the new king about the injustices of his father, hoping he would change. However, when Rehoboam refused the wise counsel of his elders and gave a harsh message to the people, the ten tribes of the north left him and followed Jeroboam instead.

When she arrived and after she had left, she was amazed at the kindness, wealth, and wisdom of King Solomon. But all of Solomon's wisdom could not keep him from the sin developing in his heart. Because of this, Solomon would lose the united kingdom of Israel that God had placed under him.
