Scott Anglin is joining Parker on this episode of the Southern Collective Hunting Podcast. Scott relives a couple of recent hunts with us that he really felt came as a by product of his Kill Switch flipping. He talks about the value of finding like minded guys to share camp with. Surrounding yourself with hardcore hunters that may even be more accomplished than you, is a sure fire way to become a better hunter every time. While we cover a few topics like access and fitness, we really dive deep into Scott's flexibility to hunt the best weather days, and surrounding himself with great bowhunters have been his biggest Kill Switch moments.
This is going to be a continued theme for us this summer. If you've got a "Kill Switch Moment" you think other hunters would find value in, send us a message on Fb or IG and share it with us!

Continuing our series about Flipping The Kill Switch, we're talking to Jesse Stallings of Louisiana. This series truly is about regular folks who have seen a sudden influx in success, and we want to find out how. After a few years of consistency, it's safe to say someone has something figured out. Like many of us, Jesse's journey brought him to scouting more than you hunt, and putting himself IN the game even when odds are stacked against him.
There's something to be said for just walking when you don't know what to do. Not seeing deer? Just walk. Not finding sign? Keep walking. It's a simple concept, yet even mobile hunters get into the routine of hunting the same tree over and over. For Jesse, the flip switched started when he kicked that routine to the curb and just kept pounding ground until he finally started putting pieces together. For so many, hunting turns into a spectator sport when it's meant to be experienced in the middle of the action!

In this episode, Walter Lee and Travis Thompson discuss the need for community in the outdoor space and the creation of Florida Fridays. They explore the unique challenges of hunting in Florida and how the skills honed in the state can translate to other states. They emphasize the role of apathy in conservation and the need for collective action and representation. It emphasizes the importance of strategic conservation efforts and the need for sportsmen and women to align behind organizations that fight for the preservation of the state. It concludes with a discussion on the importance of the right to fish and hunt and the upcoming ballot initiative in Florida.
Takeaways
Florida is a unique paradise for outdoorsmen, with abundant hunting and fishing opportunities throughout the year.
The skills honed in Florida can translate to other states, but the reverse is often not true due to the different environment and challenges.
The hunting and fishing industry should focus on creating a community and fostering mentorship to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sport.
Apathy and a focus on the kill rather than the experience can hinder conservation efforts and the growth of hunting and fishing.
Increased engagement, representation, and funding are necessary to address the challenges and preserve the sportsman paradise in Florida. A vocal minority can have a significant impact on driving change.
There is a disconnect between land managers and hunters, with some land managers not fully understanding or participating in hunting and fishing activities.
Increasing access and opportunity for hunting and fishing can have positive ripple effects on wildlife management and conservation.
Telling a compelling conservation story is crucial for engaging and connecting with people.
Public-private partnerships can provide opportunities for increased access to hunting and fishing.
Connecting people to the way of life in Florida and the importance of hunting and fishing is crucial for conservation efforts.
Unmanaged growth and urban sprawl pose significant challenges to conservation efforts. Advocacy and funding are crucial in conservation efforts.
