  • It's been twelve years since the discovery of the grisley murders of Russell and Shirley Dermond. The couple lived in a beautiful lakefront property, Lake Oconee, Georgia.

The couple was expected at a Kentucky Derby watch party with neighbors, but didn't show up. When the neighbors reach out by phone, the Dermonds agaim don’t answer. Days later, arriving at the Dermond’s home, the neighbor is surprised to find the front door unlocked. The neighbor calls out their names to no reply.

The neighbor looks in the garage to see if the Dermond’s car is there. The neighbor discovers Russell Dermond laying on the garage floor, decapitated.  The neighbor calls 911, racing around the house looking for Shirley Dermond, but she is nowhere to be found.

Investigators begin a neighborhood search and beyond for Shirley Dermond, without success.  The search lasts for 10 days until two fishermen find her body in lake Oconee. Shirley Dermond has been dumped in the lake with cinder blocks tied to her legs. Her body is recovered about 5 miles from the Dermond home near the dam. Who killed Russell Joseph Dermond and Shirley Wilcox Dermond?

  • As Luigi Mangione waits for a September 8, state trial date, he celebrated his birthday behind bars. Donors continue to pad his defense fund which now tops $1.5 million dollars.  Mangione is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024, and is preparing for back-to-back trials in New York.  His federal trial begins October 13. A New York judge recently issued a split ruling regarding what evidence prosecutors can use at his trial. The judge ruled that the initial warrantless search of Mangione’s backpack at a Pennsylvania McDonald's was improper, suppressing items like a gun magazine, cell phone, passport, and wallet from the state trial.  However, the judge determined that a subsequent search of the bag at the police station was a valid inventory search. This allows prosecutors to present a 3D-printed pistol and a notebook containing statements about targeting health insurance executives. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all state and federal charges. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

  • A federal grand jury issues a superseding indictment against Anna Kepner's stepbrother and alleged killer, Timothy Hudson, adding a charge of sexual assault alongside premeditated murder. Despite the brutal nature of the crime, Hudson remains free on pre-trial release under GPS monitoring at an uncle's home. Anna's father says his grief is taking a toll, emotions running high after accepting Anna's high school diploma on her behalf. Chris Kepner says he will not attend his stepson's trial unless he must, unable to think about the cruise cabin where he pulled his daughter's naked body from under a bunk bed. Nancy and an expert panel dissect shocking allegations of missed warning signs, including prior alerts from an ex-boyfriend about the Hudson's obsessive behavior and reports that Anna’s biological brother was locked out of the cabin after hearing screams. As the defense secures a trial delay from June to September, a critical bond hearing looms at the end of May.

  • Actor Matthew Perry wrote about his issues with addiction to alcohol and drugs. In his memoir, he said he began drinking at 14 and was an alcoholic by 18. Perry first went to rehab and completed a 28-day program at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation after a jet-ski accident led to an addiction to Vicodin. In his 2022 memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big, Terrible Thing," Perry claimed to have been to rehab 15 times, detoxed 65 times, and spent about $7 to $9 million trying to get sober.  Perry also spent 5-months in the hospital after his colon burst from prolonged opioid abuse.

Two years after his near-death experience,  Perry goes to a Rehab facility in Switzerland. He wrote that he faked pain symptoms to get Oxycontin during COVID. He was also getting daily Ketamine infusions.  The Ketamine use after treatment led to his death.  Five people where charged in connection with Perry's overdose death. Now, one of those who sold Ketamine to Perry gets a slap on the wrist from the court. Eric Flemming sentenced to 24 months in federal prison and three years of supervised  release.

According to prosecutors, Fleming admitted he distributed the ketamine, obtained from so-called "Ketamine Queen" Jasveen Sangha.  Fleming also admitted to distributing 50 vials of ketamine to Perry's live-in personal assistant.

On October 28, Matthew Perry went to his country club to play a game of Pickleball with friends. Perry returned to his home after the game and was seen by his assistant, who was leaving the house to run errands. At 4 p.m., the assistant returned home and found Perry floating face down in the heated end of the pool.

Paramedics pulled Perry out of the pool and pronounced him dead at the scene.

  • Convicted killer Alex Murdaugh, who's murder conviction has been overturned,  is suing former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill.  He alleging she violated his civil rights by tampering with the jury during his 2023 double-murder trial. The complaint claims Hill wanted a guilty verdict to help sell her upcoming book about the trial.  Murdaugh's team is seeking more than $600,000 in compensatory damages—mostly tied to the costs of the original trial—along with punitive damages. His attorneys have stated that any recovered money will not go to Murdaugh personally, but is intended to hold Hill accountable.

  • Nick Reiner, 32  pleads not guilty to the December 2025 murders of his parents, director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.    His preliminary hearing has been postponed to Sept. 15, 2026, as  the defense is still waiting for evidence. There is roughly 2 terabytes of discovery and autopsy results. Reiner is now represented by a public defender after his previous high-profile attorney Alan Jackson withdrew.

Reports suggest Reiner is in a high-observation mental health unit in jail. Reiner has faced severe, long-term mental health challenges, including diagnoses of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, and was under a mental health conservatorship between 2020 and 2021.

The murderders happened after Michele and Rob Reiner leave Conan’s party without their son after his off-putting behavior, like wearing a hoodie to a formal event and interrupting Bill Hader’s private conversation, leads to an embarrassing public row.

Reiner, however, doesn’t make his own way to Brentwood. Instead, he pops up in Santa Monica at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, checking into The Pierside hotel. Desk staff don’t notice anything off about Reiner’s appearance, but the next morning, housekeepers find sheets covering the windows, and blood all over Reiner’s bedding and shower.

The Reiners’ troubles with their middle child have been bubbling to a head for months. Every photo of the family from the September premiere of Rob’s latest film, "Spinal Tap: The End Continues," picture the 32-year-old sporting a deep scowl.

By November, Nick Reiner moves back into his parents’ guest house, which he’s trashed on multiple occasions, leading up to a blowout fight the day after Thanksgiving that left Michele “at her wits’ end.”

  • Shots ran out as Charlie Kirk sat on stage at a Utah Valley University event. The conservative activist reportedly hit near his neck and killed. According to reports, the shot was fired from the roof of a campus building about 200 yards away.  Social Video posts show Kirk in a familiar pose,  speaking into a handheld microphone, sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.”  The single shot booms and  Kirk  reaches up with his right hand. Blood gush from underneath.

Now the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson’s defense team has called for the entire Utah County prosecutor’s office to be recused. The defense’s claims a potential conflict of interest as a lead prosecutor’s child was at the event where Kirk was assassinated. That, according to the defense, tainted the office’s decisions. A judge has ruled the teen's attendance “did not materially influence” prosecutors’ actions.
