  • Thomas Casey is a Registered Land Surveyor and owner of Casey Surveying and Design in Parkes NSW. Better known as Tom, TC to his good friends & colleagues & uncle Bot to his family Tom was born in Sydney and he spent his younger years between Sydney, Bathurst & the Central Coast. My initial question to Tom was where he had grown up & his reply was that he’s not entirely sure that he has grown up… check for a special reference to Pretty in Pink… He wasn’t sure what he wanted to be as a grown up but he did know that he didn’t want to be an architect or an engineer, apparently there’s a story behind that so tune in to listen why. He has been in the industry for 28 to 34 years depending on when yo start counting He spent 6 years working in retail to pay his way through university before starting his career as a graduate surveyor & GIS operator with RTA in Parkes. Who would have thought that one of the "little dead beat crew" would end up winning some prestigious awards over the last few years, the first being the Highly commended in 2019 EISSI Awards in the rural cadastral & land titling category and Joint winner in 2021 for in the infrastructure & construction category for his work on the silver city  & cobb highways in the far west of NSW. He described the Silver City work as possibly career defining. He doesn’t have much time for hobbies and as a former low single figure golfer now retired due to old age & football injuries, he dabbles in lawn bowls and would love to get back into his vegie patch again.
You might find Tom on LinkedIn otherwise you'll find him out in the field somewhere in the outback!

  • Thomas Hebert isn’t a surveyor, he doesn’t work in our industry, but does use our technology for his latest venture. He actually comes from an insurance background of 20 years. Now why do I have this guest on my show you may be thinking? Thomas is a palaeontologist from Wisconsin. He is the Founder and Director of Earth Sciences Foundation Inc. a not for profit organisation. Recently a guest on The Geoholics podcast, Tom, is using his new found friendships to gain momentum in his dream of working on research in earth sciences and creating an environment to allow for earth sciences to be available for everyone to, be involved and to learn. With a strong GIS component to his work, Thomas sits on the outskirts of our industry in the spatial sector. He enjoys most things outdoors & depends his spare time fishing, exploring, working with young people, listening to people talk about their vision and where they want to go and working out how  he can help them oh and also digging for dinosaurs. He has been working in Palaeontology for 10 summers and returned to school last year.

  • This one has been a long time in organizing due to the busy nature of my friend the one & only Geospatial Marketer, Elaine Ball. She is a hard woman to hold down for more than 5 min. Born in the cathedral city of Wakefield known for its Corn, coal & textiles, Elaine spent time growing up in Scotland & Singapore. Known best for her marketing & get kids into survey initiatives, Elaine has carved a niche within the Geospatial Industry.. With a Surveyor dad, who was a hydrographic & mining surveyor come inventor, he introduced the Ball family to the world of surveying, scanning & a life of overachieving.. With a background in manufacturing of laser survey equipment sold to multiple industries including; Mining, Quarry, Oil & Gas, Aviation, Transportation, Forestry and Surveying. You name it; she markets it. Elaine is the creator and visionary of Elaine Ball Ltd, a global business and marketing evangelist for the Geospatial Industry.   Her aim is to raise the standards within the Geospatial Industry Globally by giving surveyors through to manufacturers a dedicated resource for business, sales, marketing and strategic communications while encouraging and exciting the next generation of surveyors. An animal lover, she wanted to be a horse rider growing up. Not quite where she is now, but on her little farm she has sheep, chickens & dogs while the horses are not too far from her..  Besides farm life, Elaine loves a good challenge competing in triathlons… so take from me she is completely crazy.. probably while we get along so well.. In her own words, She is one part marketer, one part biz development, one part strategic thinker & one part superhero..  You can find Elaine on: LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/elaineballgeo/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/geospatialmarketer/ Website: https://www.elaineball.co.uk/ You can contact me at: https://www.petacox.com  Podcast Support Defining Boundaries: https://www.patreon.com/PetaCox @definingboundaries https://www.instagram.com/definingboundaries/?hl=en  @surveygeekgirl https://www.instagram.com/surveygeekgirl/?hl=en  https://www.linkedin.com/in/peta-cox Music by Paul Greene https://www.instagram.com/greenepaul/ Red Shelf Records/Sounds Delicious Australia https://www.instagram.com/soundsdeliciousaustralia/

  • Due to poor NBN connection, the audio from this podcast is occasionally at times substandard. I apologies for the poor connection.
You will still enjoy the stories Bruce has to tell.
Born in Melbourne, to ten pound pom parents,  Bruce moved around during his younger years across Australia & PNG. His aspirations growing up were to be a pilot. Due to colour blindness, this was an unattainable goal. This led to his career choice, as a surveyor working in the Surveying & Spatial industry. He has had a great career travelling the world & has been in the industry for over 20 years, with a varied career from the water to the land. He is a geospatial professional with a passion for solving problems and developing solutions with the use of information technology. With an enquiring mind he went out into the world with a hunger to learn & he has never stopped learning. He loves all forms of surveying as they all relate to each other & can take you to places you never thought possible. Over the years he has had many positions & titles, this is due to Bruce always looking for the next big thing, or how he can help his employees grow & better themselves.
A recipient of numerous awards, his accomplishments include best outstanding Graduate for his Bachelor of Science from Curtin University, as well as awards as a long term committee member of the Australasian Hydrographic Society (AHS). He enjoys the simple things in life that run parallel with his career such as mountain bike riding & being on the water paddle boarding.

  • Bob Harrison OAM

The accidental introverted business owner. Bob is a registered surveyor & director of Harrison Friedmann & Associates. With a career spanning over 50 years, Bob has spent his career with a think positive attitude handed down from his father that has provided Bob with the tools to succeed. Growing up in Hurstville, Bob enjoyed a simple care free childhood. With a thought of a Mechanical Cadetship after school, a brief encounter with a head guidance man steered Bob to completing a Cadetship & part time University to gain his registration in 1973.
Attributing Apex Australia, getting along with people in a team & public speaking, helped him come out of his shell & he said wouldn’t be the man he is today without it.
He has had Perfect partnerships, been awarded an OAM for his service to the surveying profession & the community, sat on the ACS Committee & ISNSW to name a few. With a stint over seas in Dubai in a consortium from 2008-2011 was an exciting experience to travel & live in another culture.
With a brief interlude chat with his wonderful wife Mary, who has been by Bob side for over 30 years, she is an advocate to the surveying industry.

Discipline leader & Lecturer at University of Southern Queensland, Glenn spent his years growing up in the sunshine state. Born in Brisbane, he spent abt 11 years in Brissy before moving to Townsville in year 7 with his family for a few years. With a weird love for Science & Maths, Glenn completed a Maths & Physics degree before completing his surveying degree. A move to Goondiwindi in his early years of his career, with a young family, he says was the best move of his life at the time. Making Goondi their home, immersing themselves into the community, playing cricket, acting in a 3 man play & producing a few more kids. With no real particular planning of his career and working for a few small surveying companies he eventually chose the educational path. He took a position with USQ and went on to complete his PHD.

Support from The Surveyors Trust has been approved for 2021 to help fund the students from the University to travel for residential camps.
