The Duke Blue Devils defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils Sunday night in The Brotherhood Run charity exhibition, and Scott Rich joins us to help break down all the good that happened on Episode 657.
Duke beat Arizona State 103-47 in Bobby Hurley’s first time back in Cameron as a head coach. There was a lot to cover, and Jason, Donald, and Scott go through everything that Duke did well and even some of the things that could have been better. Duke scored 66 points in the second half, which is more than 18 of Duke’s opponents last year had in the entire game. It was led by shooting and, more importantly, by defense.
After the break, Jason has to go, but Donald and Scott recap Duke Football’s crushing overtime loss to SMU. Despite 6 takeaways, Duke somehow lost the game. Donald and Scott discuss what went wrong for the Blue Devils and how the game felt like an opportunity to enter the national conversation that was missed. We end with a report of Duke Basketball heading to Vegas in 2027 to face Arizona at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

We were expecting Episode 656 to be a lighter one, but the commitment of Nik Khamenia to Duke has us excited!!
Yesterday, Jason and Donald were not expecting to see Nik Khamenia pick Duke as his college of choice, but he did! The #19 recruit in the 247 Sports rankings and #35 in the ESPN100, Khamenia is a hooper with a smart game. We discuss what he brings to next year’s Blue Devils and how he could play alongside the Boozer twins.
Next up are previews, and we first discuss Duke Men’s Basketball’s upcoming exhibition against the Arizona State Sun Devils. It’s Bobby Hurley’s return to Cameron as a coach, and he brings a squad that has been reloaded with several transfers and one stud freshman. While Duke figures out its combinations, it will be great to see Hurley (and his son) back in Cameron for a nice exhibition.
Duke Football has its toughest test of the season to date on Saturday night when they take on the SMU Mustangs. SMU has a prolific offense that puts up over 40 points per game and averages almost a first down every time they snap the ball. We take you through how Duke can pull off the upset over the #22 team in the country.
Finally, the NBA season tipped off last night, and once again there are two dozen members of The Brotherhood representing Duke in the Association. We discuss some of the players that changed teams and who we’re keeping an eye on as the season begins.

It is the story that sent shockwaves through the ACC and all of college basketball. Virginia coach Tony Bennett deciding to retire from the game just days before the start of the 2024-25 regular season. The Duke Basketball Roundup crew have many thoughts on what Tony Bennett said about his decision and what he kept quiet. Jason and Donald also weigh in on the timing of Bennett's retirement, leaving his players and his program less than two weeks before the games get underway.
After the break, the podcast crew dives into the ACC's preseason awards. Only one Duke name showed up on the All-ACC teams... and how on earth did some no-name freshman from California get a vote for rookie of the year when Cooper Flagg and so many other notable newcomers are out there?

Here on the DBR Podcast, we get by with a little help from our friends. Jason and Donald welcome in dozens of fans of the podcast to their first ever live podcast. It was a huge weekend of Duke sports so there is plenty to talk about. It all begins with a recap of the exhibition win over Lincoln. The podcast crew (and friends) enjoyed the coming out party of Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel (who we are nicknaming Kon Ktripple). The guys also saw very positive things from Tyrese, Manman, and Maliq as Duke unveiled a lethal attack and also showed themselves to be a team full of long, pesky defenders. I mean, how can you not enjoy a 50+ point beatdown?
After the break, the party continues with a look at the big, big football win on Friday, Duke's first ever victory over Florida State and a statement making win that ensures Duke is bowl eligible. There is much praised for the resiliency of this crew, especially the impressive defense.

We’re back with Episode 654 as Duke Basketball and Football both are in action this weekend!
First, Jason and Donald preview Duke Men’s Basketball’s first exhibition of the season this weekend when they take on the Lincoln (PA) Lions. They’re led by former NC State standout Julius Hodge, who makes his return to Cameron. The duo discusses what to expect from Lincoln, what look they can present to Duke, and what they’re looking to see from the Blue Devils as they prepare for the regular season.
Remember, after the exhibition game against Lincoln (PA) this weekend, Saturday at 4:00pm ET, we will be conducting a live show via Zoom, and DBR listeners are invited! To join the show on Saturday, head to TinyURL dot com slash DBR Zoom! Bring your headlines, bring your questions, wear your favorite Duke gear, and you will be a part of our first live episode!
After the break, Duke Football has a huge game against Florida State, a team they haven’t beaten on the football field since the Seminoles joined the ACC. FSU is reeling, with a 1-5 record, but that doesn’t mean they will be pushovers on Friday night before a sold out Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke will need to execute, and we discuss how the Blue Devils can get the job done, beat FSU, and become bowl eligible.

The AP has released its preseason polls and Ken Pomery also has his rankings up. We discuss them all on Episode 653!
The AP released their men’s preseason poll yesterday, and the Duke Blue Devils will begin the season as the #7 team in the country. Jason and Donald discuss whether that’s a good spot for the Blue Devils and what the voters may have been looking for when assessing teams at the start of the year. Duke also has a loaded schedule, and it’s represented pretty heavily in these rankings.
Ken Pomeroy also released his preseason rankings yesterday, and Duke is much better according to KenPom: they check in at #2 there. Of course, we compare the difference between what the computers are seeing and what differs from what the college basketball writers who make up the AP poll are valuing. The ACC should be much better this season, but while they didn’t have a ton in the top 25, there are several NCAA tournament caliber teams in the conference that Duke will face this year.
After the break, we discuss the Duke Women, who appear at #11 in the first AP women’s poll of the season. The ACC is loaded, and Duke is the 3rd highest ranked team in the conference. A lot of respect is being shown to Kara Lawson and her squad, and for good reason! We discuss the team, who they will see this season in a tough schedule, and how they could do.
Finally, we’re going to do it! After the exhibition game against Lincoln (PA) this weekend, Saturday at 4:00pm ET, we will be conducting a live show via Zoom, and all you listeners are invited! To join the show on Saturday, head to TinyURL dot com slash DBR Zoom! Bring your headlines, bring your questions, wear your favorite Duke gear, and you will be a part of our first live episode!

Big news Friday morning as Duke landed its first two recruits of the 2025 class and they are quite the pair. Cameron and Cayden Boozer, Carlos Boozers twin sons, picked Duke over Miami and Florida in a recruiting race that was a lot closer and more mysterious than casual fans may think. The DBR podcast is here to break down what each of these 5-star players will mean for the Duke program. They also point out why this was an especially important recruiting win for Jon Scheyer.
After the break, Jason and Donald talk about a comment by Coach Scheyer at ACC Media Day that might reveal something going on behind the scenes with the team's rotations and player positions.
And there is one more important piece of news -- the Duke Basketball Roundup is going to stage its first ever live episode on Saturday October 19th at 4pm ET, about an hour after the exhibition game is over. Stay tuned for more details about how you can join the guys in a Zoom room and be a part of DBR Podcast history!

The latest edition of the Duke Basketball Roundup contains part two of Jason's weekend at Duke. First up, he talks about the Dribble for Victory over Cancer and a stunning display of friendship from the folks who make up the DBR community. Fans of the podcast turned out in droves both to support this important charity and to spend some time chatting with Jason. The day also included a peek at a Duke practice and the DBR Podcast host came away with a few controversial takes... including his assessment of how deep Duke will go and which guys appear to be in the main rotation at this early point in the preseason. Oh, and you don't want to miss Jason's play-by-play of what happened when Kon went one-on-one with Flagg and Sion!
After the break, the Roundup gang has some intel on Duke recruiting. There were three big-time prospects on campus this weekend and Jason got to spend some time chatting with some of their parents. We also look ahead to a big announcement on Thursday when the Boozer twins will make their college choice between Duke and Miami. This is one of the most dramatic recruiting mysteries in a while and, frankly, we have no idea what Cameron and Cayden are going to do.

We all got our first real and unedited peek at the 24-25 Blue Devils on Friday at Countdown to Craziness... and the Duke Basketball Roundup was in the house (Cameron) for the event. Join Jason and Donald as they talk about a somewhat shaky start that led to an explosive ending in the Blue-White scrimmages. The guys break down all the positives and negatives they saw from the team and Jason, who was courtside, has a theory why Caleb Foster struggled at first and then took off later on. The guys also talk a bit about the pregame festivities and the various choices the players made for their introductions to the Cameron crowd.
After the break, the DBR crew gets into the first football loss of the season, a tough loss to a good Ga Tech team that came from behind in the fourth quarter. Despite suffering the L, it feels like the football team is proving it belongs among the better teams in the ACC.

The latest episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup includes a conversation with one of the beat reporters covering Duke hoops. Rodd Baxley of USA Today and the Fayetteville Observer has sources inside the program and has been on campus recently to check out how the preseason is going for the team. He gives us his take on how things are shaping up as we discuss how deep Duke will go, who the starters might be, and which players are impressing the coaches so far. Rodd also covers UNC and NC State so we could not let him go without getting a little bit of info about our local rivals as well.
After the break. Jason and Donald peek ahead to Countdown to Craziness, coming this weekend.

Nothing could be finer than beating Carolina! The Victory Bell is back where it belongs as the football Blue Devils used an inspired second half effort to crush UNC 21-20. The Duke Basketball Roundup is here to meet you football needs as Scott Rich joins Jason Evans to talk about this remarkable victory that sends the Blue Devils to 5-0 on the gridiron. Their conversation starts with the amazing willpower of Star Thomas at RB and includes plenty of praise for the impressive Duke defense that utterly bottled up UNC vaunted offensive attack. It was a huge victory that cements, for the moment, Duke's spot as the best football team in the state.
After the break, Jason and Scott have a little bit of basketball news to puzzle through... the injury status of Patrick NGongba is up first but they the guys get to some surprising position rotations that happened at a recent Duke practice. You'll never guess what position Cooper Flagg is working out at.
Last but not least, we are in the final days for you to make a donation to fight pediatric cancer through the Duke Dribble for Victory. Head over to TinyURL.com/DukeDribble to be a part of this important charity that Jon Scheyer and the Duke team have made their priority.

On the heels of the schedule being announced (if you missed episode #648, go back and check it out) the DBR Podcast has gotten some intel about how the early practices are going for the Blue Devils... and the info is really intriguing. College hoops reporter Jon Rothstein got a peek at a Duke practice this week and he says Kon Kneuppel and Darren Harris both looked fabulous and Cooper Flagg is like nothing he has seen in a long, long time. Rothstein also guesses at what Duke's starting lineup will be... and his guess will really surprise you.
After the break, Jason and Donald take a deep dive into the latest episode of the Brotherhood Podcast, featuring a conversation between CFos and Tyrese Proctor. The backcourt mates have a revealing talk about how the team is coming together and what feels different from the past couple years. If what they have to say does not excite you about the coming season, then you do not bleed Duke Blue!

The full 2024-2025 ACC schedules have dropped for men’s and women’s basketball, and we are quick to react to the Duke schedules on Episode 648!
We first start with the men’s schedule, where we take a look at how it shakes up for a Duke team with high expectations. We discuss the Saturday-Monday doubles and while they may be as favorable as we could hope for, Duke has more than the rest of the ACC. We then get into where some of the tough stretches may be, from being on the road for the first two ACC games to a nostalgic Tobacco Road stretch in the middle of the schedule that brings you back to the 9-team (or 7-team) ACC days. January also is a time where Duke will spend most of its days at home after a loaded November and December.
After the break, we discuss some of the rest of the ACC teams and their schedule. Duke’s schedule is tougher than most, including almost all of the teams that are expected to be true contenders. Still, we have expected competition and we will get it with this schedule. We then turn to the Duke women, who have a extremely difficult schedule that includes a ton of true road games and the ACC ending a tradition at the end of the regular season for no real reason.

The Duke football team stands at 4-0 after putting a beatdown on Middle Tennessee State to the tune of 45-17. Duke dominated this one from early on forcing three first quarter turnovers and turning each of them into TDs to stake an big lead that only grew as the game moved along. The Duke Basketball Roundup digs deep into what Duke was doing right in this contest, especially on the defensive side of the ball. After the break, Jason and Donald look ahead to the first ACC contest of the season, Duke hosting the hated TarHeels. UNC has been kinda mid all season thus far and really stunk up the joint over the weekend when they lost to James Madison 70-50... yes., that is a football score. The DBR Podcast gang has a discussion about what has been going wrong for Mack Brown's boys. Last but not least, we have an update on the Duke Dribble for Victory event to fight pediatric cancer. Time is running out for you to make a donation to this incredibly important cause. Hea over to TinyURL.com/DukeDribble to add your name to the growing list of DBR Podcast listeners who are helping out in the fight against a terrible disease.

We're back with Episode 647, and we're honored to have Duke Associate Head Coach Chris Carrawell on the show!
Duke Basketball (both the men and women) are participating in Dribble For Victory Over Cancer on October 5th, and it's a great opportunity to have C-Well on the show to discuss Duke's involvement in the event to raise money for pediatric cancer research. It's an important event, as cancer touches literally everyone...and C-Well and the team are no exception. We discuss the event and what fans who participate can expect, from dribbling around Duke to watching the open practice. We also take the time to ask Carrawell about the 2024-25 Duke team and how they've been coming along this summer. It's a great interview that you don't want to miss. And, join the DBR Podcast team either in person or through your donations! Head to tinyurl.com/DukeDribble to join us in the fight against pediatric cancer.
After reacting to the interview, Jason and Donald discuss a nugget from an interview Jon Scheyer had with Jon Rothstein where he said he was open to scheduling a home-and-home series with UConn. It leads to a greater discussion about the future of the Champions Classic and what Duke can do to continue to have a competitive non-conference schedule that excites fans every year.

The Duke Blue Devils were able to win on the football field over the weekend, but on Episode 646 of the Duke Basketball Roundup, we know we need to get better.
Duke was able to beat the UConn Huskies 26-21, the 3rd straight week that Duke scored 26 points. There were definitely some guys who had standout performances, but Donald and Jason know that improvement is a must as the calendar continues to move. We break down some of the things that need to improve as the Blue Devils turn their attention to this Saturday’s game against Middle Tennessee.
After the break, AJ Griffin is reportedly considering stepping away from the game of basketball. We don’t know anything official yet, but we offer some encouraging words to the beloved member of The Brotherhood, no matter what he ultimately decides to do. Finally, we salute an absolute legend in the Duke community, as we discuss the passing of Dean Gerald Wilson. He served as an advisor and mentor to thousands of students over his 60 years, including Donald and Jason. They both reflect on his life of service to Duke and how he personally shaped their lives. He will be immeasurably missed.

On DBR Bites #60, we preview Duke’s upcoming game against UConn and we celebrate so many members of The Brotherhood coming back to campus!
First, we preview Duke’s upcoming football game against UConn this weekend. UConn is a team that struggled mightily against Maryland but turned it around against Merrimack. Donald and Jason discuss what to watch for when the two teams take the field as well as what UConn brings to the table. There are a couple of skill players to watch as well as who could be under center for the Huskies.
After the break, we get into some basketball stuff, led by a cool event that will be on campus on October 5th. Jason will be down at Duke for Dribble for Victory Over Cancer, an event that raises money for pediatric cancer research. Jason has created a DBR Podcast fundraising team, so join us to try and raise some money for a great cause!
We then get into the latest Duke Blue Planet episode, where tons of basketball alums returned to campus for one fun weekend. But, the episode has an inadvertent focus on Khaman Maluach in a really cool way, as you see how his interactions with Dereck Lively and his coaches shows how coachable he is and how quickly he learns.
Finally, friend of the pod Shane Battier has a new podcast! It’s called Glue Guys, and it’s discussing the unsung heroes of life. We definitely encourage a listen to the first episode, which just dropped yesterday!

On DBR Bites #59, we recap Duke’s victory over Northwestern on the edge of Lake Michigan!
Duke won 26-20 in a 2OT affair in Evanston, and there were some good and ugly parts about the whole game. Donald and Jason begin by resurrecting a fan favorite for basketball games: Headlines! We’ll be accepting them for football games as well, so don’t forget to email us at [email protected] with your headlines after each football game moving forward!
We then get into what we liked and disliked about the game, and there were some key plays on offense and defense that led to Duke’s comeback win. No matter how ugly the game felt for the first 3.9 quarters, they were able to get to overtime and then win it with some key plays from our wide receivers. We also sing praises to the defense for keeping Duke in the game with some great plays and once again getting tackles in the backfield at a tremendous clip.
After the break, the rest of the ACC had an up-and-down week, but there were some teams that had wins against P4 conference opponents that were noteworthy. The ACC needs to continue to get wins against the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 to help the conference when it comes time for the playoff and also some of these other bowl games.

Duke Football is back on the field Friday night, and we preview their game against the Northwestern Wildcats on DBR Bites #58!
Northwestern is in some new temporary digs right on the edge of Lake Michigan, and that will be the stage for a Friday night game against Duke. Donald and Jason begin the preview by discussing what we will see from Northwestern’s players. They’re led by a quarterback in Mike Wright that’s a dual threat option, throwing the ball in the air and leading the Wildcats in rushing in Week 1. There are some other skill players on the offensive and defensive sides of the football that Duke will focus on, but Northwestern hopes to combine options with quick throws to move the ball down the field.
After the break, we discuss some of the things Duke needs to do well in order to win on the road, and it starts with establishing the run. Duke wants to improve on their rushing performance against Elon, as that could open up the rest of the offense. On defense, Duke will hope to contain Wright, particularly on the run, and force their offense off the field. Our offense can move the ball quickly and can tire out Northwestern’s defense. Finally, Jason and Donald predict that a pair of Duke’s experienced wideouts could have a big night and it’s one of the keys to Duke getting the win in Evanston.

The Manny Diaz era got off to a great start at Duke walloped the Elon in this season's opening game. The Duke Basketball Roundup gives you a complete breakdown of what happened in the contest and it all starts with the dominant defense on display from Duke. Donald and Jason both want to talk about how many times Duke stopped the Phoenix with a sack or a tackle for loss. On the offensive side of the ball, Maalik Murphy was airing it out in a way we rarely see from Duke QBs, showing off his arm strength on his way to nearly 300 yards passing.
After the break, Jason and Donald spend a bit of time on basketball. Duke Blue Planet has released its first episode of the season with a look at the Brotherhood Games, an Olympic-style competition that was dominated by CFos, K2, and Stanley Borden. There is a sentence we did not expect to write this year. The DBR Pod also dives into a bit of recruiting news as the Boozer twins were on campus this weekend. Will two of the most coveted recruits in the land pick the same school as their father or do they want to char their own path?
