Who approaches the scene first risking their lives for the safety of others? We do. The blue canaries, law enforcement. We allow others to tell our stories. It's time for us to tell our own stories. Blue Canary is a show for cops by a cop, retired Captain Steven Kellams. In each episode, Steve goes behind the scenes of a police department. Giving you real-world insight into why decisions are made, what obstacles are ahead, and how the answers to your questions aren’t always found in the news. It’s unfiltered, it’s relevant and it’s for anyone brave enough to wear a badge.

New York City is home to the nation’s most segregated school system, a fact that surprises those who think of the Big Apple as a progressive beacon. Deep inequities exist at every level of the NYC school system. We think more people should know about them and push to fix them.
That's why, each semester, we bring together a team of high school interns from across the school system to tell important stories from the perspective of the real experts: students.

College is a crucial institution through which our society sets expectations for young people. This podcast explores some of the purposes of a college education today, including conversation with others on intellectual matters, development of personal character, participation in a community, and preparation for citizenship. We look at practical and personal dimensions of college, including career preparation and pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. The episodes will be released in couplets for each purpose, pairing the historic with the contemporary to trace the lineage of each theme through the centuries. We encourage listeners to reflect on their own educational experiences and consider ways that college can meet the needs of future generations.

These podcasts cover a variety of history topics in 30 to 45 minute bytes. As a 28-year veteran of teaching college-level history courses I have accumulated questions and requests for information on a number of topics, Some of those come from my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as from students. In attempting to enter the 22nd century, I am turning to the new (to me) mediums of communication. These podcasts will serve as my "mobile classroom" to provide the requested information. I also have a YouTube channel where I offer maps, images, and other visuals to supplement the material.I concede that history is partly fact and a great deal interpretation. As a historian it is important to recognize the difference and to consider leading interpretations before reaching our own conclusions based on available evidence. In none of these podcast or videos do I claim to have the last say or the only “true” interpretation. As always, I encourage my students, listeners, and watchers, to question the information, look at the evidence, and reach your own informed conclusions.
