  • Our first granddaughter is 10 days old, and we have a family story to share with you, that we hope will encourage and give hope to all of you mothers out there (and the fathers who lead family teams!).

The story you're about to hear absolutely shocked the nurse involved...but we thought it was totally normal.

It's just one more proof point to the goodness of God's ancient plan for families, and why we think the Family Teams model works so well.

This wasn't something we planned for, or even had as a goal, but our hope is that in sharing it with you, it gives you a direction and perhaps even opens your eyes for the first time to just how deeply connected you can be with the other people in your family.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

0:44 Why Kelsey included her mom in her birth experience

7:21 How April is processing her role as matriarch (especially with the birth of her grandchildren)

15:00 The transition from mothering a teen to mothering an adult child

17:28 How moms can start laying the groundwork for an extremely close lifelong relationship with their daughters

22:16 A daughter's encouragement to other mothers and daughters

25:55 Building a family team beyond the early years

    29:54 Intentional birth training

  • It is SO strange that a new parenting trend emerges every 5-10 years.

For generations, there was basically just "parenting"...passed down from one generation to another.

    Multi-generational wisdom, essentially...very Family Teams.

But with the disintegration of generational families and the rise of hyper-individualism, parents these days are left to come up with their own methods, focusing a little on this, then a little on that.

Not only is it dangerous to use an untested parenting method, MOST of them that come out these days (formerly in books, now often via social media influencers), are extremely secular and certainly not wise (the fear of God being the beginning of wisdom...).

Jeremy digs into this issue, and how to root yourself in a solid Biblical understanding of fatherhood and motherhood, joined by his wife April and Donna Cheung.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

0:48 The rise of "parenting trends"

2:35 Why modern culture has led to so many different parenting philosophies (clip)

8:30 The risks of being a young mother in the information age

19:10 Why most parenting studies are bunk and how to weigh advice

26:44 Potential for deception, especially with secular parenting books

32:37 Don't go down the "way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death"

  • One of the biggest reasons for the birth rate nosedive is that people no longer hear the positive arguments for having kids.

All they hear is the constant societal push for "freedom" being the ultimate virtue. It's led to a culture of hyper-individualism, where having kids makes absolutely no sense, because kids necessarily infringe on your freedom.

In this episode, Jeremy is joined by Tyler Graham to make the case for fatherhood from 3 different angles:

    1. The Benefits for You

    2. The Benefits For Your Family/Business/Marriage

    3. Your Duty To Have Kids

Dive in, and remember that one of the major ways you can impact your own kids and community is by constantly telling and showing everyone how great fatherhood and motherhood truly is.

  • Jeremy and April Pryor are joined by Annalisa Barraza to talk about Annalisa's book, You Are Because He Is.

Annalisa has worked for Family Teams for almost 5 years, so it's a joy to have her on the show in this capacity and dive into the power of speaking blessings over our children.

The book emphasizes the importance of speaking the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus over children to help shape their identity in Christ.

This episode also explores the cultural challenges of identity for young women, the role of family in shaping identity, and the significance of grounding identity in Christ rather than emotions or cultural pressures.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

2:12 Why Write This Book: The Power of Speaking Blessings Over Our Children

5:41 The Importance of Helping Daughters Get Grounded in Their True Identity

8:04 Challenges of Modern Identity Formation (Feelings vs. Christ)

  • The modern culture offers no wisdom when it comes to running a family.

In fact, it's designed to burden and disrupt God's good design for family.

In this episode, Jeremy sits down with Justin Kershaw, who's modelled much of his family life around the Family Teams principles. They discuss the 3 major levers Justin has pulled to successfully lead his family in relationships, faith, and business:

    - Implementing a weekly Sabbath

    - Integrating kids into the business

    - Seeing birth order as an intentional gift from God

Justin Kershaw is a husband, father of 5 daughters, and entrepreneur. Make sure to check out the company he runs with his family, Sow Strong Food! (link below)

  • Did Protestants miss something when it comes to contraception?

What about hanging our faith on a set of very defined propositions (as opposed to actions and deep inner change)?

This episode with Jeremy Pryor and Phil Cotnoir challenges a couple of oft ignored areas of growth in the Protestant church, by hearing from a couple of influential non-Christians and reacting to some fairly accurate critiques being level against the church.

We can learn about family and faith from those on the borders of Christianity or Christian ideas...but we should also be able to frame the debate properly and not be overly influenced by liberal social experiments just because the culture seems to agree with them.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

2:27 Naval Ravikant on contraception and family

    5:58 Reaction to Naval's 3 points

19:18 How should Protestants approach the conversation of kids for young married couples?

  • Jeremy is joined today by Jonathan Holmes to talk about why identity is such a hot topic today, and what it means for us as Christian parents of kids facing enormous cultural pressure.

How do we give our kids a gospel-centric identity in Christ? Do we need to spend more time and effort building a family identity to combat peer-pressured identity formation? How can the church start to take back ground on gender, identity, and the Christian sexual ethic?

These topics are hard to talk about, because so many people want to focus solely on the exceptions to the rule, and forgo talking about the general teaching, so it was a blessing to wrestle deeply with these issues with Jonathan.

This conversation needs to be happening way more often, especially for those of us with children being impacted by an outside world heavily influenced by the enemy.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

1:38 Why is "identity" such an important topic today?

    4:32 Identity in the gospel

10:06 Peers vs family in the identity-formation process

14:17 Practical tips to ground your children in a Christ-centered identity

19:30 Can family identity cure a lack of identity culturally?

  • Jeremy is joined by his wife April, and friends Michelle Akrami and Brittany Stewart to discuss the story of Rebekah, Isaac's wife, in Genesis.

How does this story of a mother and her two sons impact our view of motherhood? Did God work through her trying to do things "her way", or did God work in spite of her attempt to ensure her favorite son was blessed?

Whatever the implications, we hope this episode gives you pause to think through what the meta narrative is telling us, and allows you to approach Scripture in a thoughtful and curious way to really let it sink in.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

2:30 Rebekah as a mother in Genesis

  • In a culture that constantly attacks manhood and faith, how do we help our boys as they transition into manhood?

How does a father maintain influence in his son's life amidst the chaos of social media, friends, and sports?

Today Jeremy is joined by Stephen Meeks, author of Save The Boys. Stephen helps fathers take their sons through an initiatory rite of passage so that they become men in the best sense of the word.

This process is powerful enough to eliminate the "rebellious teenage years" in a family, because it fosters such connection and responsibility.

Learn what we face as dads in the modern age, plus the CORE process Stephen helps dads lead their boys through, and get equipped to raise your boys into men.

Jason talks about how to manage a family with 10 kids spanning 18 years, how to get your kids to sacrifice for the family without traumatizing them or creating resentment, how he navigates the creative process and successfully published a book, and why we need to get our kids into the game.

  • It's strange to us that so many conservative Christians hold up the "nuclear family" as an ideal. The nuclear family has failed, and needs to be replaced.

Now, before you think we've gone crazy, let's talk about what it needs to be replaced by...

The TRADITIONAL (or, in Family Teams-speak, the "MULTI-GENERATIONAL") Family.

    There's a huge difference.

Jeremy is joined by Tyler Graham and Chris Cirullo to talk about what that difference is, and how to get back to a Biblical blueprint of family that builds up and blesses, rather than tears down and destroys.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

1:15 Should we really be defending the "Nuclear Family"?

4:37 "The nuclear family has failed" article

11:25 The paradigm shift from modern to traditional family

  • In this episode of the Family Teams Podcast (Motherhood Edition!), Jeremy and April are joined by Annalisa Barraza and Miranda Foust to discuss the countercultural idea of women actually enjoying motherhood. Then, the group reacts to a short clip from The Spillover podcast and discuss whether we should be sending our kids to preschool.

We hope you notice that, yes, our ideas are often counterintuitive, but it's because something is desperately wrong with the way our culture is doing family. Our goal is to have honest and challenging conversations so that you as a listener can consider things from a new, and hopefully Biblical and multigenerational light. It's not always easy to have these conversations, but it's so worth it if we're going to raise up families that glorify God.

On this episode, we talk about:

  • Jeremy and April Pryor wade into the sensitive topic of what happens in marriages when a wife earns more money than a husband, and eventually becomes the "alpha". This conversation is a reaction to a recent video by Patrick Bet-David.

Is it guaranteed to cause problems? What are the effects on family in a world where this is becoming increasingly common?

This deeply impacts how we raise our daughters and how we work together as family teams, so at risk of offending everybody, we're diving in to explore relationship dynamics and what this means for modern families.

On this episode, we talk about:

    0:00 Intro

    0:43 Should couples workout together?

2:24 Do alpha women destroy marriages?

5:35 We are running multiple societal experiments...what is the impact on the family?

  • Jeremy is joined by his wife April and their friends Jess and Brittany to react to a couple of recent Youtube videos about family and daughters in particular.

First they tackle the question, how do we raise daughters differently from sons, particularly from the Family Teams perspective?

Then they dive into the trad wife movement and ask what sort of contingency plans women should have in case the men in her life all let her down.

This is a highly nuanced and important conversation to have from a Christian perspective to compare it to the modern, anti-God cultural story we're being told.

  • Jeremy and April Pryor are joined by Annalisa Barraza, Holly Worley, and Jess Gonyea to discuss two topics surrounding motherhood and femininity, all through the Family Teams lens.

First they react to whether there's a place for women to "be" in the family, when compared to working outside the home. Our culture has put "self-expression" as the highest virtue, but can we as Christians really buy into that?

Next, they comment on the reality of a woman's biological clock (in reaction to a Brett Cooper video). Even in Christian circles, nobody is talking to young women about the reality of fertility, aging, and the process leading up to having kids, and it's creating a tragic epidemic of "unplanned childlessness".

These are the conversations we need to be having to point people back to Truth, Reality, and Christ in a world that's absolutely bent on distorting it all in order to do violence to the family as a vehicle for God's will.

On this episode, we talk about:

1:34 Does the "Christian right" need more of a vision for women than being a wife and mother?

5:34 Moms react...is there a place for women to "be" in a family setting?

Hi, welcome to the Family Teams podcast! Our goal here is to help your family become a multigenerational team on mission by providing you with Biblically rooted concepts, tools and rhythms! Your hosts are Jeremy Pryor and Jefferson Bethke. Make sure to subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or YouTube so you don't miss out on future episodes!

  • Jeremy Pryor is joined by Chris Cirullo and Reilly Pilgrim to talk about inheritance.

Inheritance is one of those issues that has been dealt with intentionally and maturely in many cultures for millennia...but Christians are generally really bad at understanding this. However, we can see by looking at the broader cultural narrative in which we live that it's actually liberalism as a worldview that is destroying our idea of inheritance and causing so much confusion for fathers and resentment for adult children.

We'll dive into what responsible inheritance looks like in Family Teams, and how to navigate the question around stewarding resources over multiple generations.

On this episode, we talk about:

1:24 Is inheritance a blessing or curse?

3:48 Set your kids up for multigenerational success with business and opportunity (reaction to Myron Golden)

17:49 Jeff Goldlum is not planning to give his kids any money...is he right? (reaction to Michael Knowles)

26:07 What if your kids don't want to be on your team?

39:45 Are you prepared to be the CEO of your family?

  • Jeremy is joined by his wife April, Kristin Netting, and Jess Gonyea to talk motherhood and parenting advice, specifically in reaction to some of the ultra-popular mainstream parenting influencers giving their opinions out there.

Can the advice of parenting "experts" like Dr. Becky Kennedy be reconciled with a Biblical worldview? Is it helpful? How do we know what parts are helpful and which are harmful?

On this episode, we talk about:

0:49 Processing Dr. Becky's parenting advice through a Biblical lens

2:18 The difference between making a request and setting a boundary

11:00 Women react to "turning up the volume" when there's an issue in the family and both spouses need to get on board

17:41 The framework issue between modern, Western marriages and Family Teams

21:13 Parenting from the belief that your child is innately good

36:57 Are our kids destined for shame and failure if we don't believe they're "good inside"?

This talk is a great introduction to the Family Teams ethos and what we stand for, so we encourage you to share this with anyone in your life who hasn't heard of this glorious, God-breathed idea of family before.

    Thanks for listening!

  • Jeremy Pryor is joined by his children Jackson, Sydney, and Elisa to talk about debt, and how young people today are getting so easily sucked into making horrible financial decisions that often lead to LITERALLY giving up their first born child as payment.

They do all this by dissecting the fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, which is absolutely packed with symbolism that we can use to glean wisdom from for today.

Learn the sad reality of why most young people get into debt, the various forces out there looking to "get" us (and our future earning years...and even our sense of meaning), and what we can do about it.

On this episode, we talk about:

1:56 How to get the most out of fairy tales (and why they're not irrelevant today)

    5:34 The story of Rumpelstiltskin

6:48 The point of the story...how and why debt starts

17:00 The vulnerability of young people entering into adulthood

20:06 The most brilliant symbol in the story...what happens when you run out of things to give?

33:31 The happy ending that requires you knowing the name

42:57 The gratitude your children will have if you train them and teach them about the traps of the world
