Wen legalization?? The landscape around mushrooms is changing fast, but it still is anyone's guess as to where will end up in 3-5 years.
In this episode, we explore some possible paths, taking into consideration the proliferation of mushroom dispensaries, a proposed rescheduling, the finicky public perception, and the potential for over-medicalization.
We're also going over an important update on the case of Erin Patterson and the mushroom poisoning in Australia.

In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we're trying to answer the age old question- how many species of mushrooms are there? It's a lot more difficult to answer than you might think, and has some pretty profound implications. We review a new report called The State of The World's Plants and Fungi 2023 and dig into the details.
We're also going to be commemorating Roland Griffiths, a professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and founding director of the Johns Hopkins Center on Psychedelic and Consciousness Research.
Roland passed away on October 16 at the age of 77 after a battle with colon cancer- and we are covering some of the contributions that he and his team made to the advancement of Psilocybin as a medicine.

Mushrooms are booming, but it hasn't always been that way. Just a few short decades ago, most people had probably never even heard about many of the "exotic" mushrooms which are becoming so popular today. But that didn't stop the Garrone family from starting the now iconic California based mushroom farm known as Far West Fungi.
Today, they are growing 35,000 lbs of fresh exotic mushrooms every week, and showing the world what mushrooms are capable of through their unique mushroom store and eatery.
In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we go on a tour of their Moss Landing farm and their Santa Cruz mushroom store to learn what it's all about.
We'll also be digging into functional mushrooms and the science of longevity, with a new paper outlining the best research on whether or not mushrooms can help us live longer.

If you wanted to do clinical trials for psilocybin, you generally have two options: synthetic psilocybin (which has it's downsides) or whole dried mushrooms (also, has downsides). But what if there was a third option that took the best attributes of both? In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we are touring a facility in Vancouver that is developing a standardized version of psilocybin from whole mushrooms which contains all of the secondary metabolites. Is this the future of psilocybin therapy?
We're also digging into a weird viral video that shows a "moving mushroom" and going down the rabbit hole of the best posts on r/mycology.
Enjoy!

"Artificial Intelligence" mushroom foraging apps are one thing, but more recently it appears the robots are now writing mushroom foraging guidebooks. Aspiring mushroom foragers may now have to deal with guide books that have fake author profiles, fake images, and fake, potentially dangerous, identification information. In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we're exploring the brave new frontier of AI and it's impact on the world of mushrooms. We're also digging into a new study that is building the foundation for psilocybin therapy, and have an interview with Drew Ames, a film-maker creating a brand new documentary called Life of A Mushroom: Picked, Prepped and Eaten".

It kind of is, but there is no doubt that without fungi, our modern lives just wouldn't be the same.
In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we crunch the numbers to figure our what's really going on and try to figure out how researchers arrived at such a gargantuan number.
We're also diving into the mystery of the ancient and humongous fungus known as Prototaxites. Was the earth once dominated by these fungal beings? Let's find out!

We all know about Psilocybin Mushrooms, and perhaps even the "other" magic mushroom, Amanita muscaria- but what if there was a third one?
According to the stories, it "Makes You See The Little People" and sounds truly bizarre-
In this episode of The Mushroom Show we're digging into the story of the "blue staining boletes" that do not contain psilocybin, yet apparently have psychoactive properties that are entirely different than the typical experience. We're also going on a foraging adventure to try and support a theory about mushrooms fruiting in 7 year cycles.

You might not notice on a daily basis, but we humans are growing a TON of mushrooms. Of course the common button mushroom and oyster mushrooms take up a large portion of this total, but there are lots of other really interesting mushrooms that you really should know about! In this episode of the mushroom show, we're covering over 20 different mushrooms grown around the world for food and medicine. We are also chatting about the largest mushroom art foraging event that took place this last weekend, plus discussing some new research showing that mushrooms might be acting as a major carbon sink for the world.

Amanita phalloides (AKA the Death Cap Mushroom) is long known as the world's deadliest mushroom. It produces one of the most toxic substances in the natural world, and is responsible for up to 90% of all fatal mushroom poisonings worldwide. But scientists may have just found an antidote! In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we investigate whether or not this new discovery really is a cure for amatoxin poisoning. We also dig into some new research finally proving mushrooms are "cool", check out some newly developed mushroom coffins, and explore the reasons why "boring" old button mushrooms are actually pretty darn interesting.

Can mushrooms be useful for improving vision? People have long reported sharper vision and heightened visual acuity while under the influence of psilocybin, but is it more than just anecdotes? In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we uncover new research that has revealed what scientist believe to be the first data to show improvement in color blindness- not only during the mushroom experience, but even months afterwards. We also discuss the first license "therapy center" opening up in Oregon after measure 109. Finally, we're going over the top 5 gourmet mushrooms that are relatively easy to identify if you want to head out into the woods this spring summer and fall.

Morel mushrooms are impossible to grow... right? Not entirely. Because the process was actually patented way back in 1986. And for a time, the rights to growing this mushroom were exclusively owned by Dominos Pizza. In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we're unravelling the mystery of morel cultivation, trying to answer the question of why one of the most desired mushrooms in the world is still only really found in the wild. We're also covering a few pieces of mushroom news, including a story of scientists who discovered a way to make mushroom leather that regrows when damaged, and how athletes are turning to mushrooms for mental health. Finally, we're interviewing Del Jolly and Jessica David, co-chairs of The Mushroom Summit, which is a conference dedicated to the future of functional mushrooms.

What is the REAL reason why mushrooms make psilocybin? Are they ancient aliens trying to connect with us from distant planets? Or are they just trying to fend off everything that's trying to eat them? In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we are exploring the mystery behind the magic of these mushrooms, and also taking a deep dive into the topic of mushrooms for dogs including an interview Dr. Rob Silver DVM, who is an expert in both holistic veterinary medicine and functional mushrooms - a rare combo!
