We talk about their process and investment philosophy, the type of clients they work best with, their fee structure, and much more.

Today I had the privilege of talking with Reed Rinderknecht of Foster Group in West Des Moines, Iowa. Reed brings a life experience that is tough to match, as he is the most tenured advisor at Foster Group, dating back to 1997.
He also has a unique background as he's played for an Iowa Hawkeyes team that visited the Rose Bowl, competed in more than 80 triathlons, and has a love of flying, so he shares with us some of his experiences as a pilot.
I hope you enjoy the conversation, and stick around for Part II where Reed tells us more about Foster Group and who they serve. And of course, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to connect with Reed.

In this episode, we continue the conversation with Jason Gunkel, who is a financial advisor with a West Des Moines firm called Syverson Strege.
Jason gives us an overview of Syverson Strege, we talk about how they are unique and who they serve as clients, and Jason shares his plans for a podcast of his own, called Prayers & Profits.
And although Syverson Strege is technically a competing firm, I have a lot of respect for Jason and the work they do. We understand that not everyone is going to be the right fit with Integrity Wealth Management, and in those cases, we'd rather point you in the direction of firms who may be a better fit.

Jason's Bio
-
In this episode, we have a friend and fellow financial advisor, Jason Gunkel join the show. In addition to being an advisor, Jason wears the hat of Chief Investment Officer at a West Des Moines financial firm called Syverson Strege.
Syverson Strege has began to implement extended time off, or sabbaticals, as something their advisors can take advantage of. Last summer, Jason took his 6-week sabbatical away from work, and he was kind enough to share his experience and what he learned.
And while Syverson Strege is technically a competing firm, I have a lot of respect for this group and the work they do. Our follow-up to this episode will be a Part II in which we let Jason talk more specifically about the firm, what they do, and who they work best with.

Last episode, we discussed RISA®- Retirement Income Style Awareness. If you haven't taken advantage of completing this for yourself, you can still do so here: RISA® Assessment
On this episode, we wrap up with some follow up questions for Wade that you will not want to miss!
Wade shares his thoughts on annuities and if they should have a place in a person's retirement planning. Wade discusses the topic of reverse mortgages through the lens of financial planning, rather than as a "last resort." We then spend some time discussing the often used industry term "Fee-Only" and whether this truly eliminates conflicts of interest with an advisor. We wrap up by discussing some commonly overlooked or misunderstood tax strategies for retirees- preferential income stacking, the Social Security tax torpedo, Medicare IRMAA, Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), and how the "widow's penalty" can further disrupt your tax obligation if unaccounted for.

On this episode, I'm excited to share my conversation with Wade Pfau to discuss RISA®- Retirement Income Style Awareness. Wade is a bit of an icon in the financial planning space. If you want to dive deep into any financial topic, it's likely Wade has spent hours studying the research and can explain the pros, cons, and complexities of the situation. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Wade, and I'm excited to share his RISA® technology with you.
As a special gift, we've also given listeners the opportunity to take the RISA® Assessment themselves. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy!
We talk through Wade's journey to create RISA® and what surprised him during his research Wade explains how knowing your RISA® profile can help you tell if you're "speaking the same language" with others We then spend most of our time talking through the 4 RISA® profiles- where they overlap and where they differ We wrap up this episode by discussing how the RISA® assessment helps advisors from imparting their own biases onto clients

This is certainly a different type of episode than others I've recorded, as the tables are turned and I am on the receiving end of questions. I had the opportunity to sit down with Dennis Mattern, who had lots of questions about our firm, Integrity Wealth Management.
We start off (as we often do) explaining our unique fee structure, and how the phrase "we do well when you do well" can be misleading. We talk about who our firm is a good fit for (and what happens if we are not). We discuss tax planning, the importance of a fiduciary relationship, and if the term "fee-only" is really all that it's cracked up to be. We wrap up by coming full circle back to the topic of fees, and how clients get more excited about the money they save, not only when they see these funds grow in a separate account, but when they are earmarked for something exciting.
Dennis is a lot of fun to talk with and an absolute pro when it comes to the interview process, as he also has a podcast show of his own and is no stranger to the microphone. After sharing this episode with their audience, Dennis and his team were gracious enough to share their video with me. So not only is it a change of pace to be on the receiving end of questions, but this episode is also unique as you can watch the video of our conversation here: YouTube.

Welcome back for the conclusion of my conversation with behavioral finance expert, Daniel Crosby. On this episode, we discuss the below questions and more. I hope you listen, share with others, and most of all, ENJOY!
Is it wise to "invest in what you know?" What can we learn from the Pepsi vs. Coke blind taste test? We've talked a lot about problems and headwinds we face, what are the solutions? As the old adage suggests, should we listen to our gut? How can we make the switch from saving all these years to retirement, to now spending our hard earned resources?

I'm excited to share this conversation with psychologist and behavioral finance expert, Dr. Daniel Crosby. We discuss the emotional components to money, some of the different biases we all hold that get in our way, and why we react so differently to bad news versus good news, particularly with markets in mind.
Daniel is a natural storyteller, so he's able to take complex studies and research, and explain them in a way that is not only easy to understand, but captivating to listen to as well.Connect with Loren:

I had a fun conversation with coffee enthusiast Perry Ross, where we talk about how Perry first got into coffee, how to pick the right coffee bean for you, brewing tips, and much more!
I like to sprinkle in non-financial episodes from time to time, as more retirees take up new hobbies after their non-working years. Perhaps after listening to my conversation with Perry, you will be inspired to add "coffee" to your list of hobbies!
*Ps- as mentioned below, email me and we may even be able to get you a free bag of Perry's own coffee beans

Change is a necessary part of life, but one change most people don't expect to go through is a break-up with their financial advisor. It may seem like a strange topic to cover, but if that time ever comes, it's best to be prepared so you're not caught off guard.
Aside from the process itself, we cover why people should consider a break-up with their advisor, as well as a few "not-so-good" reasons to break-up.

This was a quick impromptu conversation, as I hopped on the mic on a recent visit down to Kansas City. I hope you enjoy, and I'd love to connect with you if any of this resonate with you personally!
Connor and I discuss:
How a marketing team can lighten the load for financial advisors Why I created a firm with a flat-fee structure, and who this is best suited for Why every firm says they offer "comprehensive" planning, but it's important to ask for examples to see what this looks like And finally, we've covered this in the past, but we reiterate why working with a Fiduciary is important, but how this can be a deceiving term when advisors act in both a sales and fiduciary responsibilityConnect with Loren:
