*2022 World Homeless Day special* In the season finale of Homelessness Matters, you’ll hear from Beckie at Emmaus Lancashire. Before joining Emmaus, Beckie was sofa surfing after experiencing domestic violence and losing her two children to social services. Now with the support of Emmaus, Beckie is starting an Access to University course to become an adult social worker.
Then you’ll hear from Karen, who is now Head of Support at Emmaus Lancashire. Karen was homeless on and off for 15 years; her abusive partner forced her to steal and become addicted to heroin. When Karen’s partner died, she got herself clean but battled with an alcohol addiction. After spending eight months in prison, Karen found Emmaus and has since got her life back on track. She now works for Emmaus, helping other people who have experienced homelessness to turn their lives around.

In episode 4 of Homelessness Matters, you’ll hear from Tony and Ade at Emmaus North East. Before joining Emmaus, Tony experienced homelessness after the breakdown of his marriage. Ade was homeless for nearly three years before discovering Emmaus in 2009 when he needed support. Now, as Deputy Community Manager, Ade helps to support other people out of homelessness.

In episode 3 of Homelessness Matters, you’ll hear from Anthony at Emmaus Glasgow. Before joining Emmaus in 2013, Anthony was struggling with rent payments, moving constantly and was unable to lead a stable life. Through Emmaus, Anthony has received the support and stability he needs to get back on his feet and is now a regular volunteer at the community’s soup kitchen, which supports people experiencing homelessness. Then you’ll hear from Angela Quinn, a Support Worker at Emmaus Glasgow, who describes the difference she has seen in Anthony since he joined Emmaus.
