  • Ghislaine and Lando Fremaux-Valdez are a collaborative partnership. Both are pastelists and portraitists. Together, their work concerns the sensuality of grief, the medicalized subject, the experience of surgical intervention, and desire (and the concomitance of all of these). They undertake the ideation and execution of each piece collaboratively, often drawing shoulder to shoulder, or frequently alternating. The drawings follow from long conversations about their own relationship, the visual cultures of medicine and religion, and the responsibilities of figurative art.     Dr. Thomas Manuel is a jazz historian, educator, cornet player, and the Endowed Artist in Residence Chair of the Stony Brook University department of jazz. He is also the founder and president of the Jazz Loft - a jazz museum and live performance venue located in historic Stony Brook village.
