  • “And now 40 years later, thousands of parts and thousands of people using this all over the world, we can safely say that Self is in everybody; it can’t be damaged, it knows how to heal, and it is just beneath the surface of these parts…and psychedelics seem to have a way to access that pretty quickly.”

Welcome to Integrating Psychedelics, featuring insights gleaned from psychedelic experiences and conversations around how to integrate this wisdom into our daily lives. I'm your host, Jenny Weinar, and in today's episode I'm speaking with Dick Schwartz.

Richard C. Schwartz, PhD, is the creator of Internal Family Systems, a highly effective, evidence-based therapeutic model that de-pathologizes the multi-part personality. His IFS Institute offers training for professionals and the general public. He is currently on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and has published five books, including No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model. Dick lives with his wife Jeanne near Chicago, close to his three daughters and his growing number of grandchildren.

    In this conversation we discuss:

How listening to his patients led Dick to develop the therapeutic model of Internal Family Systems How IFS is fundamentally different than most other paradigms for understanding the psyche The role of inner child parts in the IFS framework The goals of IFS and how it differs from mindfulness How parts work fits naturally with psychedelics The problem with the concept of ego dissolution The relationship of IFS to set, setting and psychedelic facilitators My personal experience incorporating IFS with ketamine Why parts work is helpful for people who seemingly don’t respond to the medicine How the inner work of IFS extends to social justice and the world at large Why it’s vital to follow up with parts even after healing has occurred Dick’s vision for the future of IFS ...and more!

  • “I do believe there is energy transferred along with music and the energy of the artist who wrote it; the intention that they put into the song carries through with it and you can hear those things and note how they make you feel.”

Welcome to Integrating Psychedelics, featuring insights gleaned from psychedelic experiences and conversations around how to integrate this wisdom into our daily lives. I'm your host, Jenny Weinar, and in today's episode I'm speaking with Allison Soeung.

Allison Soeung is a Licensed Sound Therapist and DJ based out of Northwest Arkansas. Allison has had a lifelong love affair with music. She played classical piano from age 6 to 18, when she traded in her piano for a set of DJ turntables, and has been performing music at diverse events from yoga festivals to nightclubs and music festivals ever since. After hearing about the potential of ketamine therapy in assisting with treatment-resistant depression (which her brother suffered from), Allison became passionate about curating sonic journeys to support the healing potential of this medicine. Today she enjoys curating ketamine therapy playlists that surprise and delight, facilitating sound bath meditations, and DJing at conscious dance events.

Valeria McCarroll, LMFT, Ph.D., is a professor of somatic and transpersonal psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice. She has been immersed in the field of psychedelic work for over a decade. A graduate of CIIS's Certificate in Psychedelic Therapies and Research, Valeria also serves as the Embodied Wisdom Advisor for Synthesis Institute in their Psychedelic Practitioner Training program. She is formally trained in a school of classical Shakta-Shaiva Tantra. Her personal experience of awakening while working with psychedelics led her to pursue a doctoral degree. That research served as the ground that eventually gave rise to the body of offerings she stewards, Somadelics. Somadelics is a contemporary path of psychedelic mysticism that makes use of the capacity of psychedelics to transform the traumas of embodied systemic oppression. Valeria lives in Northern California with her husband and daughter. When not innovating and refining liberative systems for deconstructing the patriarchy, she enjoys playing outdoors and creating beauty.

I could listen to Valeria speak for hours, and in this conversation we discuss:

How the limits of traditional talk therapy and somatic therapy led Valeria to the therapeutic use of psychedelics How the experiential nature of psychedelics differs from theoretical discussions Victoria’s interest in Kundalini and the intersection of psychedelics and spirituality Pain versus suffering and the pathologizing of pain in our culture The misconception of psychedelics as a magic pill and the need for skilled preparation Healing as process versus outcome Navigating boundaries and issues of consent when working with expanded states of consciousness Bypassing versus real transformation through psychedelic integration Examples of embodiment practices and small, concrete actions as forms of integration The meaning of the word integration The development of Valeria’s framework and upcoming book, Somadelics …and more!

  • *Formerly Everyday Nonordinary* Welcome to Integrating Psychedelics, featuring insights gleaned from psychedelic experiences and conversations around how to integrate this wisdom into our daily lives. I'm your host, Jenny Weinar, and in today's episode I'm speaking with Mary Sanders, LCSW.

Mary Sanders is a committed licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, and social justice advocate. Mary's goal is to explore the depths of transgenerational trauma and peel off the layers of oppression so that we can relate to our true self. Mary's experience is working with Black, Indigenious, and People of Color (BIPOC), 2SLGBTQIA+, veterans, immigrants and refugees from Iraq and Syria, and foster youth. Mary is committed to treating trauma, certified in Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and is a somatic experiencing psychotherapist in-training. Additionally, Mary is a trained psychedelic-assisted therapist from California Institute of Integral Studies' Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research, MAPS, and Ketamine Training Center. Mary is founding board member of the People of Color Psychedelic Collective and works towards collective healing and justice for Black, Indigenous people, and People of Color within the context of psychedelics. Mary integrates her extensive training and lived experience in her private practice, EMPATH Center and social work role at Veteran Affairs' homeless programs in San Francisco, CA.

I loved this conversation with Mary and could have kept talking for hours. In this episode we discuss:

How Mary’s longtime interest in altered states of consciousness led her to psychedelics as a way of exploring past traumas and attachment wounds How altered states of consciousness support us in confronting uncomfortable sensations in the body The corrective emotional experience that comes through asking for and receiving help in medicine circles How licensed providers in the psychedelic space can learn from underground and indigenous practitioners The role of psychedelics in both pleasure and healing, and the significance of this particularly for Black and Brown communities Singing and dancing as psychedelic integration practices that help us explore the full range of self-expression Carrying the lesson of asking for and receiving help in the medicine session out into other areas of life How modeling asking for help to others can deepen our relationships The need for greater representation of marginalized identities in the psychedelic space ...and more!

You can connect with Mary through her private practice and through the People of Color Psychedelic Collective on their website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

  • *Formerly Everyday Nonordinary The Podcast* Welcome to Integrating Psychedelics, featuring insights gleaned from psychedelic experiences and conversations around how to integrate this wisdom into our daily lives. I'm your host, Jenny Weinar, and in today's episode I'm speaking with Jesse Gould.

Jesse is a pioneer in psychedelic therapies. As Founder and President of the Heroic Hearts Project, he has spearheaded the research and acceptance of ayahuasca therapy programs for military veterans. Jesse has raised over $500,000 in scholarships from donors including Dr. Bronner’s, partnered with the world’s leading ayahuasca treatment centers, and is researching psychiatric applications with the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Georgia. His mission is to help military veterans struggling with mental trauma and spread awareness of the benefits that ayahuasca therapies offer as an alternative treatment to pharmaceuticals. Jesse has spoken globally about the benefits of psychedelics on mental health and has been featured in the New York Times and Rolling Stone Magazine and recognized as one of the most influential voices in psychedelics today.

I was fortunate to meet Jesse while training in Ketamine Assisted Therapy and I was thrilled to speak with him for the first episode of the podcast. In this episode we talk about:

Jesse's perspective on the geopolitical situation in Afghanistan as an Army veteran there The warrior archetype and what happens when society or politicians take advantage of their soldiers How Jesse found himself one a plane with a one-way ticket to Peru for a week of Ayahuasca ceremonies The limits of traditional talk therapy as compared to psychedelic assisted healing Bad trips vs. challenging trips and the importance of preparation and integration How Jesse's experiences with psychedelics taught him the importance of community in everyday life How limiting one's emotional expression compounds trauma The role of psychedelics as heart openers ...and more!

In this quick introductory episode I'm sharing my hope and intention for the podcast as a space to highlight the diversity and breadth of psychedelic experiences, as well as conversations with other movers, shakers, thinkers and feelers in the psychedelic space around integrating the wisdom from nonordinary states of consciousness into our everyday lives.

You can connect with me on Instagram and Twitter, *however* I'm actually trying to transition away from social media a bit (not entirely) - so your best bet is to sign up for my newsletter where I'll share occasional reflections and updates on services I'm offering.
