  • The Legacy of Supergirl for me will always be friends. The friends that I would not have found if I hadn’t entered the superhero world. I began as many did with Arrow. Having no comic knowledge. I sought out a podcast to help understand this new world. The adventures of Oliver Queen were always a little dark for this butterfly, but I kept watching. Not as much for the show itself but for the Arrow Squad and the people it was drawing into its ranks. Green Butterfly was technically born on the Central City Underground which celebrated The Flash. The brighter, more humorous tone suited my personality better, but I was still waiting for my hero. I had never heard of Supergirl. I had seen a few superhero movies when I was younger, but my memories were hazy. Almost everything I knew was coming from these new CW shows. Then I met the Scarlet Cougar and Miss Ice. They both helped me understand the multiverse that was beginning to unfold in front of me.

I knew from the very first episode that Supergirl was going to be my favorite show. It was funny, light, and full of hope. I was immediately drawn to the characters and the bond I could already see forming between them. The podcast was super fun too. I often invented a role for Green Butterfly to play in that week's plot. I always wanted to make people smile so I let my silly side come out. I love that the characters on our show are not bonded by blood but by something stronger. A deep emotional connection and commitment to each other. They support each other through this life all while keeping the world safe. I also felt my friendships getting stronger as the show continued. Friendships that I feel may not have existed if Supergirl had not come into our living rooms.

There were aspects of the story that mirrored my life in ways that made the show even more meaningful for me. One example is when Kara is exposed to kryptonite she is weakened and sometimes nearly paralyzed. I have Cerebral Palsy so when my muscles get sore and tired moving can seem like a monumental task. Supergirl always fights through and I do too. When they had Alex come out in season 2 I was moved by how much that story resonated with me. The words and emotions Alex was expressing echoed mine from a decade before.

The stories entertained me every week. However, the people in the real world that I met because of the show will always mean the most. In the years that have passed I have learned so much about my Superfriends. I understood which story elements would excite them and which one’s would drive them crazy. When Miss Ice said she had to step away I was really sad because I was worried Maid of Steel would not continue. Immediately I started praying for a hero and I was rewarded. I can't imagine my life now without Silver Vox. He swooped in when we needed him most. National City got a new voice to speak the truth about what was happening there and I got a treasured friend.

I could never fill the Scarlet Cougar’s shoes. Karen taught me so much about superheroes and really ignited my passion to know more. It was with her encouragement and the help of John, Geoff and Emilee that I found the bravery within myself to let my voice be heard on a weekly basis. I can’t be Scarlet Cougar, but I will always honor her and be your eye in the sky. The Legacy of Supergirl for me will always be one of fun, friendship, and hope. Whatever our next adventure holds, I hope you all will join us. Because the most important thing to remember is tv shows will come and go but Superfriends are forever.

  • Welcome back to Maid of Steel - post Supergirl!! We're talking about The Flash!! No, we haven't jumped shows or heroes, we're back to discuss the first five episodes of The Flash Season 8 - "Armageddon." Why, you ask? So glad you did! Armageddon involves a kind of crossover event within the Arrowverse that includes many of our favorite heroes and villains. Among those is our very own Alex Danvers / The Sentinel! So, let's run down the plot summaries of the five episodes and summarize the Alex aspect of things, shall we? Yes, we shall!

Part 1: When a powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances, Barry, Iris and the rest of the team are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world.

Part 2: Despero warns The Flash that great tragedies will lead to Armageddon; Barry doubles down on proving his innocence, but a devastating revelation pushes him to seek counsel from Black Lightning.

Part 3: Barry meets Black Lightning at the Hall of Justice after things take a dire turn with Despero; Iris suspects something is off with Despero's vision of the future so she seeks help from a powerful ally.

Part 4: Barry is shocked when Eobard Thawne returns in the most unexpected way, and with a tie to a loved one. Damien Darhk offers advice to Barry but there is a catch. An epic battle begins with The Reverse-Flash against The Flash and Team Flash.

Part 5: Barry must decide whether to let his greatest enemy die, or save his life.

As for Alex and The Sentinel, she is consulted when Team Flash interacts with Despero to find out anything the DEO knows about Despero's species, which is not much. We then catch up with Alex at the celebration event on the impending nuptials of Eobard Thawne and Iris West. When Barry Allen shows up on the scene (as Reverse Flash) everyone goes into battle mode, including the Sentinel. Alex stays to hang with Team Flash to understand why Barry is here and what kind of trouble he might be trying to cause and takes it upon herself to try to navigate the potential relationship between two members of Team Flash, Allegra and Chester. She is successful in bringing the two together with the help of the Paragon of Humanity - Ryan Choi. And, that's about it. When Eobard is discovered to have created a Reverse Flashpoint most of everything in Parts 2-4 of this event are...negated. Gotta love the time shenanigans on The Flash!!

Summary: This Armageddon event was highly advertised with amazing visuals and the potential for some very cool crossovers but ultimately was uneven in its story telling and the heightened expectations fell short. As we mention in the podcast, this is sooooooooooooooo much better than what The Flash Season 7 delivered so we'll see what the rest of the Season delivers beginning in March of 2022!

  • The battle has been won. Esme is safe at home. Alex is a married woman. Kara is committed to being true to both sides of herself. We now live in a National City where the citizens know that Kara Danvers is Supergirl. She will use words to save the day and fists only when absolutely necessary. She will always be our Paragon of Hope! What will happen now as our adventure continues? Look throughout the Universe for all our Superfriends. I am confident they will pop up to lend a hand as problems arise starting with Sentinel in the five-part Flash Armageddon Event.

However, before we dive into whatever drama is brewing elsewhere in the Universe we need to hear from you. You know how Green Butterfly and Silver Vox feel about the Supergirl finale but what about you? Here at Maid of Steel you are the star of the show. You are the most important part of the story. There was a lot of anger, sadness and trepidation leading into this pair of episodes. Now that they have aired, did the story within them bring you any closure? My hope is that you found some joy in the characters we have all loved so much. Now it is time for my favorite part, an episode dedicated entirely to you, our listeners. Television shows will come and go but Super Friends are forever!

  • The fight for the totems has taken a desperate turn. Supergirl and her team have five totems however Lex and Nyxly have stolen the most precious of them all. The love totem has fused itself with Alex and Kelly’s young daughter Esme. In true Lex fashion, he gives the Superfriends an ultimatum. They must give him the five totems they possess and the destiny totem then he will return Esme.

The love totem is different from the others. Not only did it fuse with a living being, but each time it is activated some of the petals from the flower tattoo on the little girl's neck fall. Nyxly predicts that if all petals are allowed to fall then the totem will find a new host and will be lost to them. Lex and Nyxly disagree on how to separate the totem from Esme. Lex does not care if the little girl is hurt in the process. Lex thinks he is so clever, but we are shown a different side of Nyxly. She wants to possess the totem, but she doesn't want Esme to come to any harm. Nyxly also wants to obtain the totem honestly by passing the love gauntlet. In making this choice the gauntlet is achieved and the love totem judges Nyxly worthy of possessing it.

Meanwhile Alex and Kara are disagreeing on how to rescue Esme and keep the world safe. Alex wants to meet the ransom demands and take out Lex with her bare hands. Kara is worried about surrendering that much power to the enemy. If Nyxly and Lex can unite the totems to create the All Stone, Supergirl is concerned they will be unstoppable. She heads to Prague in pursuit of the destiny totem. This magical item shows Kara a possible destiny that she cannot allow to happen. If Nyxly and Lex wield the power of all the totems combined into the All Stone then they will destroy this planet and enslave its people. They must make a plan, so this future does not become a reality. Brainy has an idea to use a satellite to concentrate sunlight to super charge Supergirl. Alex just wants to take the totems and exchange them for her daughter. The sisters go their separate ways to try to achieve victory. In the final moments of absorbing the extra sunlight Kara has second thoughts. The people she wants to help are scared and running away. This can’t be the right decision. Through the power of Brainy’s legion crown and a little magic from Lena, Supergirl is able to deliver one last hope speech to everyone all at once. This mobilizes the citizens of National City to be the heroes in their own life. As a result of that speech there are many people to back up our Superfriends. The heroes won the day and evil has been defeated. Now it is time for the happily ever after. However, our paragon of hope is still conflicted. In the quiet moments following Alex and Kelly’s wedding Kara gets an unexpected phone call. Cat Grant has bought Catco back and wants Kara to be her Editor in Chief. Can she find the balance in her life? Can she be both? After some encouragement from Alex and prodding that only Ms. Grant could provide Kara has made a decision. She does have the courage to do both and she will tell the world. She is Kara Danvers, Pulitzer winning reporter and Supergirl. Kara reveals to the world she is our beloved Maid of Steel.

  • The truth is when a fifth dimensional imp has her sights set on your home there will be consequences. In the race to beat Nyxly to seven magical totems there is not much time to relax and unwind. Lena encouraged the group to celebrate Alex and Kelly’s engagement with a bachelorette party. The ramifications of the heroes taking the night off turns out to be devastating!

Nyxly and Lex find and take control of the Truth totem. It has taken the form of a camera because a picture cannot lie. In the gauntlet to control this magical item Nyxly must become very vulnerable and tell the truth.

Esme had an incident at school when another student made fun of her dessert in a baking competition. She still doesn’t have complete control of her powers, but this is understandable for a young alien like herself. Alex takes her to the tower to run tests to hopefully understand how to help her daughter. When Kara suggests something to help control her powers, like the glasses Jeremiah gave her as a child, the sisters have an argument. Alex does not want Esme to have to suppress any parts of herself. She wants her to live happily and true to all aspects of herself. Kelly and Alex are both relieved when the symptoms their daughter has, including a mysterious rose tattoo, can be explained by Esme mimicking the powers of a new student in her class. The Superfriends head to the party. William and Esme head to the tower kitchen to bake something delicious.

When a monitor alerts William that the Tower security has been breached, he tells Esme to hide. Lena should have checked the Tower’s defenses before leaving for the night. She should have been able to anticipate her brother’s next move. She talked about Lex. I know it crossed her mind, but the Arrowverse has a long history with problematic security setups. This break-in at the tower has catastrophic results.

Back at the party Brainy is struggling with news he received from the Legion earlier in the day. Apparently if Querl Dox does not return to the 31st century to merge with the Big Brain the Coluan race will die. This is devastating news for our favorite 12th level intellect. He has had the opportunity in this time to be free of his emotion inhibitors. He has been able to develop his own sense of self. This is very different from the communal society he was born into. He has a family here that is connected not by blood but by love. Brainy is in love with Nia and can’t imagine life without her. Another brainiac reminds him that the timeline will be irrevocably changed if he does not return to his own time. However, couldn’t the same also be said for how much the timeline has been altered due to his presence in this century thus far? Timeline hypotheticals make Green Butterfly’s head hurt.

Meanwhile, back at the tower, Lex Luthor has William at gunpoint. Lex is angry with William for publicizing his journals. Something he didn’t even do. Andrea stole the private documents and published them under William’s name. His blood will be on her hands now because Lex shot and killed William for this crime. In another room Nyxly lures Esme out of hiding with promises of cookies. The imp only wants the love totem. What will she do to the little girl whose body now contains it? Join us next week as our super series reaches an epic conclusion!

  • Previously on Supergirl…Bitter Imp! Totems, Totems, Totems. Battle for the Universe as we know it! Supergirl has been one step behind since Season 6 – Episode 8!! Pew, Pew, big booms! Supergirl destroyed the Hope Totem, the All Stone will never be completed. Wait…wha? Lex Luthor?!?!

Nyxly is not convinced that the "Fancy Banker" is the key to her success. He (Lex) states that he is coming from the future, that he and Nyxly are partners and that in his future she did assemble the All Stone – but not in the right way and…she dead. Lucky for her (WOW) Lex was there, secured her consciousness and put it in the Lex-O Suit that he delivered in the last episode. Mitch identifies the fancy banker as Lex Luthor. Nyxly knows Lex is the one who sent Kara into the Phantom Zone. You know what Nyxly hates the most? Men who send women into the Phantom Zone. Lex zaps out of the scene.

Supergirl declares her CatCo quittedness to the Superfriends. Brainy has a plan to draw Nyxly out so they can finally show down the showdown. He needs Lena and Nia. Supergirl and J’onn are working together, interrupted by Alex who shows off the bling she’s going to put on Kelly! There’s a history lesson on the year ago that Alex and Kelly mutually cried out Hans Gruber as the best movie villain and here we are ready to make it a forever thing. Esme could not care less about elaborate proposal planning as long as there’s mozzie sticks. My girl!! Al’s Bar is not available on their special night because it's all booked up for a special event. Alex is majorly disappointed, and confused, because Al's is never booked for anything. L

Otis is thrilled to see Lex again, especially since he (Otis) is now on the LutherCorp Board of Directors – (Nice touch, writers – well played). Otis tries to convince Lex that he doesn’t need the Imp. Lex explains that the only thing he wants is Nyxly – the love of his life. Otis: “I’m sory, say what?” Us: “Bull*%&$&!!” Lex has to convince Nyxly now that his heart and intentions toward her are genuine so that their relationship has a second chance (where she ain’t…dead). Otis no understand this but “if she loved you before just do that again.” Otis is a genius.

William’s on the case putting out the latest press release about the Superfriends Plan! In a Kryptonian witch séance they have surmised that the next Totem will be the Love one that Nyxly will target. Lena’s going to magic up a fake love totem with the same totem energy as the real thing, and they’re going to lure her to their ultimate trap! MuHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. (Sorry.) Alex almost proposes to Kelly in a car but that is interrupted by Nyxly’s appearance. (Whew.) Lena creates a magical ring that Nyxly can’t cross and then the fireworks start exchanging. Nyxly is. Almost. Done. For. And then Lex Kryptonite’s his way on the scene. Lena is a touch furious and starts a fire with the fake totem. “Miss me, Sis?” drolls Lex.

Nyxly is asking Lex how his sister can fake a totem, and fool her Mxy ball about its signal…and “how did you know where I was?” Lex reveals his little surveillance drone. Imp. No. Pleased. ”Creep!” (She ain’t wrong, y’all) She rejects his offer to help and beams me up, Mitch!! “I love you…” Lex whines to her absence. Supergirl is healed with Lena’s help and Supergirl wants to make sure Lena is OK, after seeing Lex and all. Lena admits that her anger creates a FAWYER! Lena needs to bench her magic and Supergirl agrees, “You’re so much more to this team than magic.” AMEN, people, AMEN! Andrea is drooling over William, drooling on William, drooling about William’s news that Nyxly and Lex are working together. William wants to make sure that the story is legit and Andrea ain’t very interested. He’ll go undercover with Lex’s organization if he has to. The Superfriends can’t figure out how Lex came back into the picture until Brainy realizes he’s been hanging out in the 31st century. Brainy wants to use the totems that they have against the evil duo. J’onn says they can use the energy of the totems instead of the totems themselves. I reach for my Advil… Brainy is uber bothered that Lex has technology from the 31st century and wishes he could know what Lex was up to. He won’t contact the Legion because the last time he knew future stuff he teamed up with Lex and things went fuzzbuckets. Supergirl and J’onn figure they can only use the courage totem to work the plan. What is the plan? No earth-prime idea. J’onn is going to go through Season 6 – Episode 13 “The Gauntlet” since Supergirl never passed it and she’s not going to try now. Thanks very much, writers!! We go back in time to when J’onn lacked courage at the very end when the White Martians took out everything and everybody. Not. This. Time. In. J’onn’s. Mind.

Lex and Otis go over the future history of Lex and Nyxly going over the different options to get Nyxly on board the love train. Otis suggests brainwashing. “That is the underpinnings of a toxic relationship,” replies Lex. Otis suggests just telling her how Lex really feels. Lex laughs. The duo have Mitch captured. Mitch is going to give Nyxly very important info but not tell her where he got it – where the love totem is. Nia also simultaneously dreams where the Love totem is – Portugal! Nyxly shows up, repels our heroes, again (oy, ve), and Supergirl has Phantoms all up in her mind grill. The love totem disappears before Nyxly can get it.

Supergirl recovers and they can’t figure out where the totem went. Except that the totems are now found out to appear and disappear randomly throughout history. I reach for more Advil… Nyxly seeks out Lex, who is waiting for her at his grand piano. She wants to know if he knows where it went. But no lovey dovey, just his help. J’onn is guilty that he couldn’t protect Supergirl just like he couldn’t ultimately save his Martian daughters. Supergirl admits the dream energy took her back to the phantoms and that it’s *really* hard to find hope. (Perhaps because you DESTROYED HOPE?!?!?!?) J’onn theorizes that maybe these experiences are trying to tell them that they are stronger than their fears. He can’t save his Martian daughters, but he can save his family now. Supergirl says they should use their totems as weapons. If they use the humanity totem Supergirl could lose her (Kryptonian) humanity. More Advil… Supergirl wants Lena to magic up her a force field. Lena’s like “did you not understand that I’m all fired up at the moment?!” Supergirl is hoping that Lena will understand that using the totems is the only answer. Supergirl knows that her family will pull her back from the nightmare of becoming a Phantom. Lena can use her new family to pull her back instead of being attached to Lex as her family.

William comes upon Alex, who explains that her proposal to Maggie went fuzzbuckets and she is worried about the same deal going down with Kelly. William says that with Lex around nothing is guaranteed. “If you have love to give, give it now.” (Still don’t appreciate you, William, but you’re not wrong.) Lex has blended up magic and 31st century tech to fix the Mxy ball. Nyxly asks if she gets her revenge in the future. Lex paints a glory-full picture of her revenge. “Every time you talked about it you glowed.” Mxy ball tells Nyxly where the love totem is for realzzz.

Alex tries to bullrush Al’s bar since it’s supposedly booked but it turns out the surprise is on her because Kelly and Esme are the ones who booked the bar. Kelly knows it’s the anniversary of the first time that she knew Alex was the one. (Chyler is going to make me cry.) Alex wants to be the one who proposes. She goes into her pocket and pulls out (not the ring but...) the love totem. Nyxly and Lex show up and start firing. Esme screams for Supergirl. Lex and J’onn go toe to toe while Supergirl and Nyxly go at it. Lena magic up’s the force field, Supergirl uses the humanity totem as a weapon, J’onn takes Lex out and joins Supergirl in the fight. Nyxly is almost done so Lex beams her out of there, even though he could have grabbed the love totem. It turns black from the pink that it was.

J’onn says he hit the love totem with all the energy of the courage totem, which turned it black. Kelly wonders if the love totem is toast, does that mean all of the love in the. whole. world. gone? Alex says no way! “That thing turned black but I still love all y’all!” Alex says we’re surrounded by chaos, but nothing could tell her apart from Kelly. She proposes. All of the Superfriends are there to celebrate. Except Lena. And Nia. But Brainy captured the video. Booooooooooooo. Meanwhile, Lex fixes Nyxly from her total blast of Humanity and Courage. She doesn’t understand why Lex abandoned the love totem to save her. She wants the truth. Lex declares the truth is that he loves her with the fire of 10,000 destroyed hope totems. She is his equal in every way and he was overwhelmed by her. She admits no one has ever acted selflessly for her and so therefore they can be friends. Then there’s the proposal party. Brainy is moody because he can’t understand Lex’s selflessness either. Brainy needs to know what changed him in the future and Nia assures him that he can call the future because he has her and team behind him. Kara thanks Lena for her sacrifice and Lena thanks Kara for helping her free herself from Lex. William ignores a call from Andrea to join a covert meeting with Otis. She’s not happy so she Acrata’s up and goes for the information at Luthor manor herself and comes across a love poem Lex has written. Nyxly is bummed because she can’t build the All Stone without the Hope totem. Lex has it in his hands!! Lex explains that you can destroy the shell of the totem, but its essence flows into something new. Advil, Advil, Advil!!!!!!!!! He also knows that the destroyed Love totem will come back and appears to be coming on the back of Esme’s neck. I ram my head into the television – hence, more Advil.

Next week? Dancing, Dancing, and more Dancing!

  • All is quiet at the tower. Brainy and Lena have secured the courage and humanity totems with a combination of Earth magic and Coluan calculations. This leaves Kara to focus on the interview of a lifetime. The leaders of Kaznia and Corto Maltese have agreed to sit down and decide on terms of a peace agreement. Kara has secured access for Catco in this historic event. Needless to say, Andrea is over the moon about the news.

Nia has returned empty handed from Parthas. Maeve took all their mother’s books and research and fled to parts unknown. Brainy suggests that Nia have a healthy breakfast including her greens, give her mind over to her dream powers and let her visions lead the way. Meanwhile, Nyxly is also looking for the dream totem. She breaks into a research facility where a scientist has built a machine to harness dream power. She uses the gauntlet from her secret admirer to open a portal to the dream realm. What escapes in the interim will cause much havoc in the city and will need to be contained.

Nia's dreams lead her to a university to speak to a professor there. Upon her arrival at the office door from her dreams, Nia comes face to face with her sister Maeve. This is the first time the girls have been together since Maeve insulted Nia at their mother’s funeral. Despite the pain that has been caused the sisters set out to the dream realm to save the next totem from Nyxly’s grasp.

Downtown a nightmare monster is tormenting National City. Lena reprograms some of Lex’s old satellites to project a dome over half the city. This is necessary to contain the creature who was steps away from causing a nuclear catastrophe. The Super Friends have saved the city, but the Governor does not see it that way. She sees a group of people who leap into action before consulting those in charge. She only sees a large barrier that is separating people from their homes and jobs. Also, parents from their children. The National Guard mobilizes against the dome nearly causing the monster to not be vanquished back to its realm.

Nia and Maeve are still working to decode which path leads to the totem. Maeve's jealousy takes hold again for what she feels is a birthright lost. I am glad to see that after such a deep hurt on both sides the healing is not instantaneous. However, their lack of solidarity in this moment cost them the dream totem.

Needless to say, when a quiet day turned into chaos Kara missed her interview. William reminded her of advice from Cat Grant. “You can have it all but not necessarily all at the same time “. Maybe right now is the season for Supergirl to shine. Kara turns in her resignation to Andrea. Nyxly’s suit is badly damaged from her battle with Dreamer. The AI within the suit asks to hold the dream totem. A few seconds later Lex Luthor materialized in the room. What is he doing here? What is his role in the story? Will he ever pay for sending our beloved Maid of Steel to the Phantom Zone?

  • Supergirl and Nyxly have one totem each. Nia has gone to Parthas in search of the Dream totem so Kara heads to the Netherlands to try and stop the Imp from getting her hands on the Hope totem. Nyxly fails the Hope gauntlet but still manages to create chaos at peace talks taking place within The Hague.

Meanwhile Alex and Kelly welcome Esme into their home. We learn that the little girl is a species of alien that can mimic the powers of others. It must be really overwhelming to acclimate to one superpower let alone adjust to a countless number of them depending on what type of alien is around at that time.

I am really glad this episode illustrated some struggles with this brand-new family. It makes the story richer to show Kelly, Alex, and Esme working through struggles versus showing a perfect family right off the bat. I also like the comparisons made to Kara’s adoption which I think makes Alex uniquely qualified to care for this little girl.

Mitch fashions a device for the Courage totem that restores a portion of Nyxly’s power. She strips the diplomats at the summit of their courage which results in a widespread distrust among the world leaders. Nyxly is about to cause a nuclear catastrophe on Earth and the Superfriends must fly in to save the day. Nyxly must come up with a new plan to obtain the totem. Nyxly feels that she cannot beat Supergirl in the gauntlet for hope. She will let Kara win the totem and then use blackmail to get it from her. This leads the Imp princess to kidnap William.

The quest for the totems feels like a truly epic battle. Something that is not easily won in 42 minutes of TV. The quest challenges each one of our characters. Their struggles draw me in. The way they help each other honors Supergirl’s theme of “stronger together”. Ultimately the team decides that one of the totems must be destroyed so that the All Stone can never be reassembled. Supergirl hurls the Hope totem into the sun. Kara is confident that hope can be restored to the world without this small physical representation. This made me wonder if the totem would integrate into our sun and perhaps cause it to shine down some extra hope on all of humanity. That would be the type of legacy I would love to see for this series. Supergirl made the world just a little more hopeful than before she arrived.

  • The quest for the totems continues. Nyxly tracks the Humanity Totem to the pocket of a martial arts fighter in town for a match. The imp easily steals the item and wonders why there was no gauntlet to pass to wield its powers. The citizens in the vicinity of the arena erupt into violence with their humanity stripped from them. The Superfriends game night is abruptly interrupted by Nyxly’s glee at an easy victory. Kara’s psychic connection to the imp continues to be an asset.

William has used his friendship with Kara to win himself entrance into the Tower. He is going to write stories about the Superfriends. This should make Andrea very happy. J’onn must lay some ground rules to make sure that missions and secret identities are not compromised.

Lena continues to work on her magic. I love that she continues to look at this new skill in a logical way. This honors her long standing character trait of the scientist that we know and love. Nia says that the way Lena speaks of magic reminds her of dream interpretation and offers to help. I really like the deepening friendship that is forming between these two characters.

Nothing in life is free and Nyxly learns there is a price to pay for activating the Humanity Totem. All the goodness and compassion that left the people of National City is now flooding Nyxly’s system. It is all these emotions that stop her from capturing the next totem of Hope.

Green Butterfly’s favorite part of the episode was getting to check back in on Esme. The cute and charming alien girl with a heart for justice. At first glance when Kelly arrives it looks like Esme has found some happiness. However, when her foster parents are faced with a heartless hoard, they leave the little girl outside the door. They beg her to use her fire breathing power to defend them. This is a power Esme has but has not learned how to utilize and control. She is left alone scared facing the angry mob. Kelly and Alex rush to rescue her. Will Kelly and Alex give Esme a forever home? This butterfly sure hopes so. Who better to raise and protect this little alien girl than the woman who shared a bedroom with one for years? Seems like the right choice to me.

Nyxly relinquished the Humanity Totem. All that compassion is getting in the way of her ultimate goal of taking over the world. Now she has her sights set back on the Netherlands and the totem of Hope. Supergirl and her team are focusing on the totem of Dreams. Who will win this race? I think it is still too early to say. We will have to tune in next week and find out. Until then this is your eye in the sky Green Butterfly wishing you a Super Week!

  • Supergirl and her team are in a race against Nyxly. They must find seven totems to reassemble the All Stone. The person wielding this magical item has ultimate power. Lena has returned from Newfoundland and is eager to get back to work. After a quick synopsis from Brainy, Lena and Supergirl head to the fortress. It is there that they find the living memory of Vita, a Kryptonian witch. She shares all the facts she knows about the totems along with a dire warning. Many of her coven have gone on quests for the totems and suffered serious consequences while on the journey.

A key fact that is uncovered is that the totems have attached themselves to objects that embody the power they represent. The first totem Kara must find is the one representing courage. Consequently, a slingshot that David used to beat Goliath has just arrived at a museum in National City. Finding and possessing the slingshot is not enough. The bearer must prove their worth by running the gauntlet and showing true courage.

Nyxly and the Superfriends arrive at the museum simultaneously. In the struggle the totem is split showering those in the vicinity with fifth dimensional magic. This deluge of power comes with a feeling of undiluted courage. Not a bad thing for superheroes, right? Not necessarily because a balance of courage and fear can help keep you safe. For example, rushing towards a fire breathing dragon may not be the best decision. Letting emotions cloud your judgment could cost you precious time in a situation where quick thinking could make all the difference. On the flip side, making a guess without calculating all the variables could be equally dangerous. The people responsible for breaking the totem must face the gauntlet alone if they are to gain the power. Harnessing the power will stop the surge of irrational behavior that is plaguing National City.

Kara is taken back to the night where she revealed herself as Supergirl. She did this to save the person she loves the most on this planet, Alex. Nyxly goes back to the day she attempted to overthrow her father, the mad king of the fifth dimension. She thought her brother was on her side but at the last moment he betrayed her. That betrayal sealed her fate of banishment to the Phantom Zone.

Nyxly was victorious at her challenge while Kara was not. Supergirl sacrificed her chance to repeat her gauntlet to save her city from the violence its residents are experiencing. Nyxly has won this round and has the control of the totem of courage. However, our Paragon will not lose hope. Perhaps Dreamer will awaken with a lead on the next totem. We will have to tune in next week to find out. Until then this is your eye in the sky Green Butterfly wishing you a super week!

  • Supergirl and her team are consumed with finding Nyxly before she can cause more harm. This causes a lot of frustration for Kelly who is left to worry about the residents of The Heights. They were about to start a new chapter in the housing development. A new home would give some stability in their lives. Now they are left with a pile of rubble and debris that is leaving them all literally breathless.

The people in charge won’t help. Counselman Rankin is only seeking the best treatment for herself. Now that the building set aside for low-income housing is gone, she can build a more opulent building to attract more businesses to the area. The residents of this area will continue to struggle while Rankin gets richer.

When Nyxly destroyed the building, she inadvertently infused it with fifth dimensional energy. When Rankin is exposed to the energy, she begins to exhibit strange powers. When she thinks about something it magically materializes. Anything from a simple sandwich to a stack of money. This comes at a cost to the other victims of the building collapse. Every time the counsel woman conjures something out of thin air the other victims get weaker and sicker.

After Kelly calls James to vent, John Diggle appears in National City. He has been where Kelly is before, so James called him in to support Kelly. Sometimes our heroes are only looking at the big picture. Our team is not perfect, and it is their imperfection that makes these scenarios so real. I was proud of Kara and Alex for the conversations they had with Kelly in this episode. They both came from a humble place admitting that they can never understand fully what Kelly’s life experience has been. Conversely there are aspects of Kara and Alex’s life that Kelly will not be able to fully understand. We are all influenced by the experiences that build our life and make us who we are. We all have blind spots. It is what we do when the invisible becomes visible to us that defines what happens next.

  • Three hundred years ago Mr. Mxyptlix betrayed Nyxly when he testified against her. The result of that trial was Nyxly being banished to the phantom zone. Now the princess of the fifth dimension seeks to reassemble the All Stone which would give her power over all existence. Supergirl and her team must protect Mxy because his blood is the key to the All Stone.

Imps can be tracked by their magic. Therefore Mxy must find a way to be of service without using his powers. J’onn says “an imp without magic is like a rocket ship without fuel”. Needless to say, this is a difficult mission but Mxy tries his best. His heart is definitely in the right place. Magic from the fifth dimension is hard to beat. The properties of which nullify the first few solutions our team comes up with. Mxy is on the right track, however, a Trojan horse may be just what they need to win this fight.

Lena makes her way to Fortune Cove to try to discover more information on her birth mother. Strangely, as soon as she mentions Elizabeth Walsh’s name the local residents become unhelpful and eager for her to leave. Andrea uses her sources to find the last woman Lena seeks. Florence was hard to find, but once located, is willing to share the information Lena has traveled here for. Lizzie came to her in her dreams and told her good friend that someday her daughter would come seeking answers. Lena has inherited more than a beautiful face from her mother. She also possesses the spark of her magic. This revelation made Green Butterfly really happy. I have always wanted Lena to be more than another Luthor in a House of El story. I love Lena the scientist and business genius. She is one of my favorite characters so how could I say no to an expansion of her character. I only wish we could have more episodes left to explore this untapped skill.

Now all I can say is Lena better fly home quickly because the Super Friends need some magical help. Lena always gives 100% to any problem she faces. She will work tirelessly to help the team succeed against the Imp with world domination on her mind. Supergirl and her team must find the totem of courage before Nyxly does. Whoever controls courage also controls fear. Don’t you worry though. Silver Vox and Green Butterfly will be with you every step of the way as we continue the adventure of Supergirl’s final season. Stay safe and have a super week!

  • When Supergirl speaks people listen but Kara wants to use this power for more than getting people to eat broccoli. Sure Andrea is thrilled she has a Superfriends video on Catco’s website. Brainy feels he is doing a public service after struggling with binge eating earlier this season. However, as our Maid of Steel thinks it over she realizes she could use her voice to amplify the words of the unheard and ignored. She could shed light on the unseen victims that so called improvement sometimes brings. Here in National City a housing development set aside for low-income families is now set to become the headquarters for a large corporation. This is great for bringing jobs to the area but what about the people that were counting on low rent and a safe place to live? What about Orlando and Joey Davis?

Nyxly is now free of the dream realm. What does that mean for Earth? The mischievous imp kept her end of the bargain too. Nia gets 24 hours to learn from her mother. Isabel stresses to her daughter that she must never run from her dreams. She must stay and interpret what they are trying to tell her. Nothing in the dream realm is meaningless. Her mother also reminds Nia that even after the time expires on this day that she should keep her eyes open for wisdom Isabel will share in her dreams. Nia also has her sister Maeve. Yes, her sister was devastated when the dream powers were not bestowed on her. Maeve expressed her anger by uttering words that hurt Nia very deeply. Maybe all is not lost. Perhaps forgiveness could be found. Then Nia could benefit from the years of research and knowledge her sister has compiled. Then they could both rise as heroes to honor all the dreamers that came before them and inspire the ones that will come after.

Mitch has had a hard time on Earth since Naxim left. When he captures Nyxly he feels like he has what he needs to restart the cosmic managerie. This imp is not one to give up easily. She does what she knows best and makes a deal. Why would Mitch want a powerless Imp when she has the tools to capture the Maid of Steel? The very Kryptonian that slipped through his fingers years ago. The plan is to kidnap an alien scientist that can make a cryo-nuclear bomb that can trap Supergirl in ice. Luckily Kara’s heat vision is able to neutralize that threat, but the battle is yet to be won. On her way home Supergirl is cornered by Nyxly. Supergirl inadvertently recharged the Imp’s power with her heat vision. It is time to fight magic with magic. Kara must call in some backup from the fifth dimension as Mr. Mxyzptlk arrives. Whose side will he take in this battle? We have to wait until next week to find out. Until next time this is your eye in the sky Green Butterfly wishing you a super week!

  • Supergirl and J’onn are investigating a robbery in National City. The crime is being perpetrated by a group of aliens that would not normally work together. The items they are stealing are fairly benign separately, but together could build a bomb that would level a skyscraper. This is a story that Kara could use to put Catco on top right? Andrea doesn’t think so. She wants articles about what the Superfriends do for fun. That will give her the bump in ratings she craves.

Kelly is on her first assignment for social services. She heads to a group home where a young boy named Joey with EMP powers is acting out. When Kelly speaks to him, she discovers he is stressed that his incarcerated brother Orlando is overusing his powers. This could lead to irreversible harm or even death if it were to continue. Kelly enlists the help of Kara to go speak to the warden of the prison where Orlando is being held, to inquire about his well-being.

Meanwhile Nia is sent home from work for falling asleep in a staff meeting. She is still plagued with doubts regarding her powers. She is desperate to speak to her late mother to ask for her wisdom and guidance. What price will she pay to get the advice and reassurance she craves? When Nyxly invades Nia’s dreamscape Green Butterfly begins to worry the price will be very, very high.

Soon it becomes clear Orlando is part of the group of aliens Supergirl and J’onn have been looking for. All five are being removed from their work assignment and diverted to another job. Turns out these inmates had been told if they complete this side job then they will be set free. This appeals to Orlando because then he can return to caring for his brother Joey.

Kelly is worried about the conditions she sees in the foster home. She returns under cover of darkness to retrieve security camera footage of the children being harmed by their caregiver. Kara and William have a breakthrough in their story. They were able to follow the money to a mob boss that wanted the assortment of stolen items to build a bomb. In the end the bad guys were stopped, and William was able to get an exclusive interview with Supergirl to appease Andrea.

As Nia takes another nap, I am disturbed to find Nia falling victim to Nyxly’s manipulations. The imp offers her 24 hours with her late mother in exchange for Nia’s help escaping this dreamscape. The wise owl tries to warn our Dreamer about the possible treachery. However, as we end the episode Nia is accepting Nyxly’s bargain. Green Butterfly is filled with dread over the consequences that will need to be paid. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Supergirl’s latest adventure. Until then, have a super week!

  • Kara has returned from the Phantom Zone. It is a place where despair reigns supreme and time doesn’t advance. Lena designed a yellow sun bomb to reinvigorate her best friend and break her out of that dark, hopeless place. Supergirl is home but the Phantom Zone still haunts her. Alex will not leave her side. They are stronger together. As an unstoppable force they will take on whatever National City has to face next.

Andrea is irritated that Kara did not come back to work with a big story. Catco is falling behind the other news outlets and Ms. Rojas is desperate to get back on top. As Acrata she uses her shadow power to get a lead on Supergirl. If she can report on not only the Maid of Steel but her team as well that could put Catco back in the top spot. The Superfriends would be a great cover story. Kara has always been able to talk to Supergirl so Andrea puts her on the case. When Kara reads about the phantoms her team had to deal with in her absence her blood runs cold.

Uncle Archie aka Zor-El is adjusting to life under a yellow sun. He is interested in learning what his daughter has been doing here on Earth. He flies with her to put out a garbage fire before it can become an ecological disaster. Zor-El is concerned because death of the oceans is what spelled doom for Krypton. Kara shows her father the fortress. That is where he develops an idea to modify Kalex to dispose of trash in a nontoxic way. The plan seems successful at first. Then the power core in the droid malfunctions causing the trash to not disappear but pile onto itself. This causes a giant being made of rubbish to form and threaten the city.

The team must work together using their various strengths to vanquish “Bad Trash”. Zor-El decides it is time to head to Argo City to face Allura. Lena wants to go home and explore her roots on her mother’s side. Kara and Alex return to the couch for some dinner and some wine. Alex reiterates to Kara that she will be with her every step of the way as she deals with the trauma caused by the Phantom Zone. Stronger together! Always and forever! This is the strength they will draw on as Nia is awakened by a dream of Nyxly. A maiden sure to cause some mischief as our story continues…

  • When Lena Luthor first moved to National City she lived in a hotel. She was not sure if this is where she would make a permanent home. She bought Catco. Why would she ever want to be the next Cat Grant when she has the legacy and wealth of the Luthor family to build upon? Lena chooses to be different. Her choice is to use her vast intelligence and influence to do good for the city and the world. She wants her science and technology to ease suffering and do no harm. The writers have chosen plots for Lena that have caused her to walk the line between darkness and light. When she is hurt by her friends she has definitely flirted with plans of vengeance. The community here at Maid of Steel shouted in unison “Lena is Good!” I think Lex said it best when he said he was born of a poisonous union, but Lena was born of love. She only had her birth mother in her life for a short time, but her kind spirit and generosity live on in Lena. It is her heart that makes her inherently different from Lex, Lillian, and Lionel. When Superman betrayed Lex they became mortal enemies. I am thankful that our series has explored forgiveness between Supergirl and Lena.

I know that the show perpetuated the secret of Supergirl's identity between Kara and Lena way too long. It is not believable that a woman as intelligent as Lena would not figure out that Kara is Supergirl on her own. I still choose to believe she knew in the back of her mind but chose not to reveal it because she did not want to face the idea of being lied to. We have complained that Lena is often isolated from the group. I still think this version of Lena is better than the one portrayed on Smallville. Our series presents a more well-developed character that we got to spend more screen time with. Lena Luthor was brought to life by the amazing Katie McGrath. I am glad the chapter of secrets is over and we can head into our final episodes with Lena in Supergirl's inner circle where she always should have been. Please join Silver Vox and Green Butterfly as we discuss the loveliest Luthor of them all. We can’t wait to hear what our Superfriends have to say. Here on Golden Spiral Media you are the most important part of the show! This is your eye in the sky Green Butterfly, have a super week!

  • It's a Trailer! Sister Couch moment, Bad Trash, Nia AND her Mother, and so much more! Check out the Silver Vox and the Green Butterfly break down every delightful second of what's to come in our Final Season!

  • She is neither human nor Kryptonian but her powers rival those of Supergirl. She was made by witches on Krypton to dispense justice to the galaxy. On the day of their planet's demise they sent her to Earth, not wanting to lose the results of their work. She was raised on Earth, as a human with no sign of special abilities. She was named Sam Arias and had a successful life.

A human life that blessed her with a daughter named Ruby. This is something her creators did not expect. When Sam starts hearing voices in her head and having nightmares, she knows something is wrong. What she doesn’t know is she is fulfilling the destiny that the witches made for her. She will rise. She will reign. Made to be a world killer, Reign now has her sights set on Earth.

However, this is a woman composed of two minds Sam and Reign. I think some will underestimate how strong Sam can be. When Reign defeats Supergirl in an epic battle the tears well up in GreenButterfly’s eyes. If Supergirl cannot defeat Reign, who can? Our Maid of Steel vanquished the world killer in the end but it was Ruby that saved Sam. I know Lena's scientific work played a significant role in her recovery. I wholeheartedly believe Sam's love for her daughter is what prevented Reign from taking total control of her mind and body.

Join Green Butterfly and Silver Vox as we revisit one of the most compelling characters of this series. Someone we would love to see back in season six. Based on her origins Sam should still have powers despite Lena’s treatment. Reign did not emerge until Sam was an adult. What does that mean for Ruby as she grows up? In the Comics it is Zor El that made the World Killers. Is that why he really ended up in the Phantom Zone? Did the world killer project lead to the destruction of Krypton? Green Butterfly and Silver Vox are looking forward to a great discussion with all of our super friends. We are Stronger Together! We are Maid of Steel!

  • What makes someone your One True Pairing? In my opinion it is many things. That person loves you for all that you are while also inspiring you to try new things. An individual that makes you laugh and holds you when you cry. A person who knows what you mean even when a situation leaves you speechless. A partner that will walk through the triumphs and disappointments of life with you. Who should be that person for Kara?

There will be challenges to face for sure. Our Maid of Steel has extraordinary powers. Being a hero and a Paragon will make her late for dinner alot! Does that mean someone that is super powered like Mon El would be the best choice? Melissa and Chris are living happily ever after in real life. In addition, their on-screen chemistry is strong. Is this enough to vote Mon El in as Supergirl’s perfect life partner?

Silver Vox has always said James is the one for Kara. He understands her hero's life and pushes her to be a better journalist. They set them up perfectly in season one of the series only to tear it apart at the start of season two.

Crisis has given us the gift of Kenny Li. The recent episodes explore the new timeline where he survives. Those episodes show us that he loves Kara Danvers, Kara Zor El and Supergirl.

As we have always said, the Danvers’ sisters are the heart of the show. That could mean that OTP does not mean romantic love. Two girls born on different planets have become the closest sisters I have ever seen portrayed on television. Green Butterfly and Silver Vox can’t wait to hear what our super friends have to say on this topic. Who will come out on top? Push play and find out!
