  • In this epsiode, I interview Ruth Beaglehole, and I'm hoping it will leave you feeling as empowered as it did for me. So for over 50 years, Ruth has been a leading voice In the call to end violence and oppression of younger human beings. As a teacher of parents, caregivers, and professionals in the practice of parenting with nonviolence, she has been a committed advocate in the human rights movement that works to protect all children or her journey as an educator, mother, grandmother, and activist is rooted in the story of her own childhood and her understanding of early trauma, and that all human beings have the capacity to heal.

We talk about momlife, parenting differently than we are raised, vulnerability, and the power of community.

  • I was full of seemingly mixed emotions when I first beacame a mom (and before all of this mindfulness), and at the time this ambiguity confused me to a point of distress.

Momlife instigating a dynamic misxture of emotions in any given day or moment is something worth exploring from a mindfulness perspective. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a solid strategy to lean on in these times of conflicting emotions.

  • This 5th and final episode in the five week series on the elements of living mindfully so that moms like you and me and better manage momlife and feel more like ourselves.

You can remember the 5 elements with the acronym SHINE.

    S: Sit H: Habits I: Inner wisdom N: Neighbor E: Education

When we cultivate even just one of these elements into your lives, we will find benefits. When will cultivate a couple, we will find more. And the more we develop practices and habits around these elements, the more they weave into each other and allow us to accelerate our access to the benefits of managing momlife with mindfulness.

Today we are talking about the E for Education, specially education in mindfulness and effective tools for managing our daily lives. The purpose of learning more about mindfulness and effective tools for life is to build new skills into our lives that allow us to act and respond in ways that help us achieve our goals, live according to our values, and experience more joy. Unlike watching Seinfeld reruns, we consume mindfulness and personal development content to find effective ways to better live our lives. And today, you’ll get a practical tool to help you turn the mindfulness and personal development content you consume into real life practices.

  • Welcome back to Mom School, this is the 4th episode in a series of 5 devoted to exploring the elements of mindfulness that you can use to manage your very busy momlife so you can feel more happiness and more like yourself.

You can remember the 5 elements with the acronym SHINE.

    S: Sit H: Habits I: Inner wisdom N: Neighbor E: Education

In this epsiode, I will be talking about community as a mom. And the idea of community is represented in our SHINE acronym by the letter “N” in the SHINE acronym which stands for neighbor.

By the end of this episode you’ll have a broadened perspective of community, know why it’s something worthwhile of giving your very limited and valuable energy, and how to cultivate it in your very limited time.

You are part of my community even just by listening to this and I appreciate you so much. If you want to find additional community, come check out the Village, we would love to have you join us there.

  • Welcome back to Managing Momlife with Mindfulness. This is the 3rd episode in a series of 5 dedicated to exploring the basic elements of mindfulness for managing momlife. You can remember the 5 elements with the acronym SHINE.

    S: Sit H: Habits I: Inner wisdom N: Neighbor E: Education

In this episode, I’ll be discussing the I for Inner wisdom and by the end, you’ll have a sense of what inner wisdom is, what it isn’t, why it’s important for managing momlife, and how you even go about leaning into it.

Getting to know your inner wisdom might be a little scary and messy, but it’s going to lead you to your biggest life. The life where you collect lessons not regrets. The life where you know yourself fully and can, in turn, offer that to your children as well. Getting to know and aligning with your inner wisdom, is one of the very best things you can do for yourself as a person and for yourself as a mom.

  • The course this month is called “Managing Momlife with Mindfulness.” We will be discussing and practicing the elements of mindfulness, that when we have them in place, will help us feel more joy, and more like ourselves, and make managing mom life a whole lot easier.

I will use the acronym S.H.I.N.E to help us remember the elements of living mindfully in momlife.

    S: Sit  H: Habits   I: Inner Wisdom  N: Neighbor   E: Education

This week we will be talking about the H which stands for habits. We will discuss what habits are, how to change unhelpful habits and create new helpful ones, and discuss how this relates to managing momlife so that you can use habits to feel more like yourself. Don’t worry about writing everything down, I’ve got some handy printables for you to download in The Village.

There is a A LOT of info in this epsidoe, but the takeaway from today can be simple. Have self-compassion for your unwanted habits and know that you can build a happier momlife through creating habits from small mindfulness practices one at a time.

  • This episode marks the beginning of a new monthly course here at Mom School and I am really excited about bringing you this course. The course this month is called “Managing Momlife with Mindfulness.” We will be discussing and practicing the elements of mindfulness, that when we have them in place, will help us feel more joy, and more like ourselves, and make managing mom life a whole lot easier.

If you are new to mindfulness, this is an excellent entry point. If you are experienced with mindfulness, this course will give you some new perspectives from which to see how mindfulness can be cultivated in your life.

I will use the acronym S.H.I.N.E to help us remember the elements of living mindfully in momlife.

    S: Sit  H: Habits   I: Inner Wisdom  N: Neighbor   E: Education

Don’t worry if you forgot those already, we will be revisiting this and by the end of the course, you’ll have it down.

We will do a deep dive into one element each week.

The S in the SHINE acronym stands for sit. Sitting represents a formal mindfulness practice, something you do nearly daily as part of your routine like showering or brushing your teeth. The formal mindfulness practice I went into more detail on here is meditation and we discussed ways to think flexibly about your formal practice.

  • This is the 3rd episode in a series of 4 dedicated to exploring how mindfulness can serve as a remedy for intense emotional challenges in mom life. This episode is called The Scientist and the Flight: The Pilot and will help you take skillful and helpful actions during a tricky emotionally charged situation so that you can get your needs met. We discuss the concept of patience as as skill. Three things can get in the way of our ability to get outneeds met: our negatuvity bias, learned beleifs, and unhelpful coping tools. Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can help us get our needs met. The steps to NVC are 1) observation 2) feeling 3) need 4) request Identifying our needs can be challenging at first.
