Understanding foster care can be overwhelming and has a steep learning curve. It’s easy to find ourselves stuck in a perpetual state of confusion. While part of being a foster parent is learning to accept the various “unknowns” of our child’s future, we can seek answers to many of our questions from those who have who have walked this journey again and again. Knowing what we can know, prepares not only our hearts, but helps us prepare our families, our homes and our communities for the arrival of a child in need. Foster parent mentors, Amber Robinson and Lauren Bedevian, join Tara Hutton this week to answer five 5 questions every foster parent wants to know in just 36 minutes.
• (4:00) How can I prepare for a placement?
• (10:25) What happens when I get the call?
• (15:21) What do I need to know about the first 30 days?
• (22:29) What is life going to look like for the next 12 to 18 months?
• (30:10) How do I navigate the courts and the legal system?

The Mamas Well "Read and Connect" is an opportunity for learning and growth in a compassionate community of other mothers who are looking to grow deeper in their understanding of who they are in order to cultivate more secure attachments with their children. We read books together and discuss not only what we are learning from the text, but also what we are learning from each other as well as from our children. We not only create intentional time each week to connect via zoom in 6 scheduled sessions, but we have optional opportunities for daily group or individual connections through a private messaging app throughout the 6 week study.

Raising children who’ve experienced trauma can take its toll on our primary relationships like marriage. On this week’s episode, Tara and Kyle Hutton apply the three pillars of TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) empowerment, connection, and correction to their marriage. Their conversation covers:
- Empowerment and ways to help empower your partner
- Connection, deep listening, “seeing” one another, and the intentionality of creating the space to do this.
- Correcting thoughts and behaviors as a “self awareness practice” and the reminder that correction in marriage is an inside job. To learn more about TBRI, Trust Based Relational and Intervention

Control is a word that's very familiar to most parents. It's a parenting strategy that we were most likely taught by our parents, and is an easy one for foster and adoptive parents (any parent for that matter) to revert to when dealing with a dis-regulated child. She provides practical parenting tips in areas including; breath awareness, music, yoga, journaling, and much more.
