3-year-old Madeleine was on vacation with her family in Praia De Luz, Portugal when she went missing. Her family discovered her missing from her bed shortly after dinner. Madeleine’s parents tried unsuccessfully for years to have a child and eventually resorted to IVF. 9 months later Madeleine was born. Both of Madeleine’s parents worked in the medical field and had gone on this vacation with 9 adults and several other children. The resort where the families were staying was an upper-class resort where younger kids could attend what they refer to in the Netflix docuseries as the “kids club” while the adults spent time being social, playing tennis, and sailing. About a week into their vacation the adults noticed that the kids were growing extra tired from all of the activities during the day and on May 3rd Madeleine even requested she be carried back from the kiddie club because she was too tired to walk. Madeleine’s mother Kate read a story to all of the children and Madeleine was nearly asleep by the time the book was finished. Kate said that she got Madeleine into bed and began getting ready for dinner. The family’s apartment was about 100 yards walking distance from the Tapas restaurant where the adults had eaten dinner most nights. Every twenty minutes, one of them would go check on the children who were asleep to make sure they were all safe. On the evening of May 3rd the adults went to the Tapas restaurant around 8:30 pm. They checked on the children at around 9 pm and again at 9:30 and everything was fine the children were asleep in their beds. At 10 pm it was Kate’s turn to check on the children and she said she noticed a little more light on than she had expected to see. And when she went to open Madeleine's door it slammed shut. She opened the door and this is when she noticed that the window was open and the shutters were pulled up and Madeleine was not in her bed. She immediately ran back to the restaurant to let the others know that Madeleine was missing. In no time at all there were people everywhere looking for Madeleine. Shortly later people reported hearing an awful sound. It was Kate crying out in agony about her missing daughter. The first time the police were called, they did not respond. Gerry, Madeleine’s father, and a friend went to the service desk at the resort and pleaded with them to please call the police again. Finally, the police showed up. Apparently, there were two police departments in this area. One for small crimes and the major crimes unit. After hours of searching for little Madeleine, the major crimes unit was finally contacted. They immediately sent an investigator to the apartment where Madeleine’s family was staying however because it took so long to contact the proper authorities the investigation itself was also delayed. Also, in Portugal, the disappearance of a human is not a crime. Therefore, the chief of police stated that they were unable to treat the incident as such. There was a man named Robert Murat who had been helping translate for the family in the days after Madeleine’s disappearance. A few reporters claimed that Mr. Murat was too involved in the case and suspicious acting and he eventually became a suspect. The police raided Mr. Murat's home but didn’t find any incriminating evidence and after interrogating him had to release him.

Highway Patrol Officer Harold Berry was the first law enforcement officer at the scene later accompanied by Sheriff Pete Weaver. It didn’t take long for Sheriff Weaver to know that he was going to need help investigating the crime. Around 8 am on the morning of June 13th Sheriff Weaver contacted the OSBI (The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation) Officer Barry said that upon his arrival he secured the area around the bodies and made sure that there was no further interference with the scene other than from the discovery and the nurse. Officer Berry also claims there was only one visible set of boot prints leading from Kiowa camp.

In June of 1977, three young girls went to girl scout camp for some summer fun. Sadly, they would never return home. The camp where the girls would be staying was in a very dark, dense and wooded part of Camp Scott in Oklahoma. First we want to talk about Camp Scott.
Camp Scott
Camp Scott opened in 1928. The camp was a place for young girl scouts to spend a couple of summer weeks in the beautiful Ozark Hills of Oklahoma.
Magic Empire Girl Scout Council began running it in 1977 and by this time, the camp had grown to include 10 campsites, a Great Hall, and swimming pool and was situated within 410 acres to the left bank of Snake Creek. The campsites were placed near the main access road which was given the name... ‘The Cookie Trail’. Each campsite was given Native American tribe names and consisted of canvas tents atop wooden platforms, set around a stone-encircled campfire. The girls were supposed to be overseen by camp counselors who would have their own tent. There was enough room for four scouts to share each tent.
Because of the land, the tents were not evenly spaced, nor were the campsites placed equally along The Cookie Trail. The three girls that were murdered were staying in tent 8 in the Kiowa camp which happened to be set furthest west and more isolated away from the Trail than the others and tent 8 also was set a bit further out than the others in the camp. Its view from the counselor’s tent was also obscured by the shower block.
Although the Ozarks are beautiful and a great place to go camping, for small children the dense woodland can be very scary. Campers have often described feeling of uneasy or like they’re being watched, because of the dense forest.
The first (and last) night of the camp
On June 12th, 1977 the busses of girl scouts began to arrive at Camp Scott. From what we know, there were 27 girls in the Kiowa camp and three adult counselors. The first night at the camp there was a thunderstorm, so the girls spent the evening writing letters to their families. Counselors usually dread the first night of camp because the gilrs are all pretty excited to be away from home and spend a large part of the night giggling and laughing in their tents.
Strange occurrences during the night
There is information that suggests that someone was stalking the campsites that first evening. It was impossible to create an exact timeline, but testimony from various parties paints a pretty good picture. This is the timeline police put together by witness statements.

So Wednesday we brought you all part two of Phoebe Handsjuk, and today we are going to discuss a few other interesting details involving Phoebe’s ex-boyfriend Ant. Now Phoebe died in 2010 and about six years later in 2017, Ant begins dating beautiful 25-year-old model Baillee Schneider.
On June 24th, 2018, Baillee was found slumped over, dead on the kitchen floor with a gold cord wrapped around her neck. Although Bailee was 5’8” tall, and no point of hanging could be found, local police called her death a suicide. Also, strangely enough, Baillee’s phone went missing so there was never any way for police to look at who she had been in contact with the day she died.
Bailee’s family said they have never believed that she had taken her own life and began a campaign to raise funds for an inquest into her death. I had to look up what an inquest was because I am an American and was unfamiliar with the term and it means basically the same thing as an investigation.
Baillee’s father made a post on his Facebook page expressing their family’s frustration with the case. His post said:
“Our daughter Baillee passed away 15 months ago, 15 months in, and we are still waiting on a ruling from the coroner, we have been given no answers as to how she ended up dead on the kitchen floor with a cord tied tightly around her neck with no hanging point to find. Her phone that was taken, we have been given nothing from police or coroner, this now leaves us with no further option than to ask for an inquest into her death, in the likely cause of her death being ruled a suicide. Baillee deserves justice, nothing will ever bring her back but we as her family and friends need answers.”
Now we can’t really go into too many details about this case because it is still open and being investigated. We just thought that Phoebe’s death was crazy enough, but when you add a second beautiful life gone it makes you start to wonder if Mr. Hampel has been cursed with some serious bad luck or if there is more sinister to these stories.

Now when we left off, Ant had just arrived home from work on December 2nd and noticed that Phoebe was not in their apartment despite all of her belongings being there, including her purse and keyfob that she would need to enter the apartment again after leaving. Ant arrived home at around 6pm and shortly before 7 pm, the concierge in their luxury apartment building walked down to the trash refuse looking for a broom. However, she was unable to easily push the door open. She had to bump it with her shoulder to get it to open enough to make her way in. Once inside the room, she spotted what she initially thought might have been a mannequin, but then she saw blood trailed all over the room. She backed out of the room and panicked; she took a second look to make sure she had seen what she feared she had. Then she ran for help.
The body in the trash refuse room was Phoebe’s. Phoebe had somehow managed to make it into the trash shoot on the 12th floor of her building feet first and plunged 40 meters (which converts to a little over 131 feet for Americans) and into the building's trash compactor. Although the compactor at the bottom of the trash shoot severed Phoebe’s right foot very badly, she had survived the fall. She crawled around that room in the dark trying to escape and get help but unfortunately, she ended up bleeding to death before being found. According to the Herald Sun newspaper in Victoria, there were two witnesses that claimed Phoebe’s Boyfriend Ant behaved very strangely on the night of her death and the days following it. Detective O'Brien, one of the officers that interviewed Ant on the evening that Phoebe died said that Mr. Hampel appeared to be crying during the interview, however, there were no observable tears running down his face at any time. Ant was also said to have sniffled a lot but he never showed an excessive amount of mucus that one might expect to see from an individual that is weeping. Detective O'Brien said, “His eyes were not bloodshot or red and his face appeared quite normal."
According to Ant’s longtime friend Vanessa Levin, Ant and Phoebe’s relationship was rocky and claimed that Ant could "come across as possibly verbally aggressive". Vanessa said it also appeared that Ant seemed to enjoy the many mourners that visited after Phoebe’s death and she found that “odd.” The Coroner Peter White decided that Phoebe had climbed in herself. He recorded her death as death by misadventure. There were no fingerprints on the trash chute door that Phoebe supposedly “climbed into,” and no CCTV footage from the time of her accident. Her family doubts that it was even physically possible for Phoebe to climb into the chute feet first.

24-year-old Phoebe Handsjuk was an Australian beauty. She lived with her boyfriend Antony Hampel (or Ant as everyone called him) on the 12th floor of her apartment building in Melbourne, Australia. On a cold winter evening in December of 2010, Phoebe was found dead in her apartment complex. The details surrounding Phoebe’s death are as insane as the months and days leading up to it.

Dorothy Jane Scott was born on April 23, 1948 to Jacob and Vera Scott. Dorothy was a single mom, and in the 1980’s, she lived in Stanton, California with her son Shawn and her aunt who was her roommate. Dorothy and Dennis, her son Shawn’s father, weren’t together and according to several sources, her ex lived out of state in Missouri during this time. Dorothy didn’t date much and was a devout Christian that spent most of her free time with her son.
Early in 1980 Dorothy Jane Scott had begun receiving phone calls at work from an unknown man. She said that the voice was sort of familiar, but she was never able to place it. He let her know that he was following her wherever she went and would describe details of her daily activities to prove it. She didn’t stress out too much about the phone calls at first because in the beginning the caller would talk about how much he adored her and would confess his love for her. However, over time, the nature of the phone calls began to change. As if creepy rando phone calls from some weird perv wasn’t bad enough, the jerk started leaving her “gifts” as well. He would call and tell her to go outside because he left her a present. Obviously, Dorothy started to get freaked out by the calls, so much so, that she began taking self-defense classes and close friends said that she had considered getting a handgun. The calls kept coming and now the caller began threatening her life saying that he was going to cut her up and she’d never be found. According to the True Crime Diary’s coverage on this crime the caller was quoted saying "Ok, now you're going to come my way, and when I get you alone, I will cut you up into bits so no one will ever find you."
The last day that Dorothy was seen alive was May 28, 1980. She had dropped Shawn off at her parent’s house and headed into work to attend a meeting. This was when she noticed that fellow employee Conrad Bostron looking very ill and at some point Dorothy was like, “Dude we need to get you to a doctor like now.” She convinced Conrad to let her take him to the emergency room. Her co-worker, Pam Head, offered to come with them. On their way to the hospital, they stopped by Dorothy’s parents’ house to check on her son Shawn and to let them know where she would be. Then the trio headed for the medical center.
Dorothy and Pam waited while the doctors inspected Conrad. A while later it was determined that he was suffering from symptoms related to a black widow spider bite. While Pam and Conrad filled his prescription, Dorothy ran out to get her car and pull it around but when Pam and Conrad went outside, Dorothy was not there. The two waited, nervously scanning the parking lot for any sign of Dorothy’s car. Finally, they saw her car coming, but Dorothy’s car never slowed down to stop. Blinded by the high beams, Pam and Conrad watched as the car raced out of the parking lot. Pam said that they ran after the car waving their arms, but it never slowed. They stood and watched as it drove out of sight.

Not sure what had just happened or if Dorothy would return, Pam and Conrad waited for two hours before finally calling Dorothy’s parents and then the police. For whatever reason, the police didn’t seem to be alarmed until several hours later when Dorothy’s car was found in an alley about ten miles away from the hospital, on fire. There was still no sign of Dorothy. -
We are two best friends that enjoy crime stories and all things mysterious. We enjoy looking at the evidence to see if we can come up with a theory about what we think happened. This is something that we thought would be fun to do, plus it gives us a reason to hang out and drink wine! We are excited to get started and hope you join for the fun!
