This Pfriday, we take a brief detour from La Pfeiffer's pfeature pfilms to delve into her work on television, where her acting career began. The first entry in this two-episode miniseries is THE CHILDREN NOBODY WANTED, Michelle's final TV movie before her breakout role in Grease 2. Based on the true story of The Butterfield Ranch, Michelle is given what is considered her first leading role, but is once again playing the supportive girlfriend. This Pfriday takes us back to Shakespeare, as we harvest all we can from A THOUSAND ACRES, the Michelle Pfeiffer/Jessica Lange-led retelling of King Lear. A passion project for both actresses, this dark drama had a long, winding road from Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to a finished film neither particularly loved. We track this movie from start to finish, including Lange's Golden Globe nom and the outstanding landscape for awards in 1997, but the main focus is the joy of watching two titanic (see what we did there?) actresses act so beautifully opposite one another.

Happy Pfriday! Well, now you do! Buckle up for the tale of I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN, a romantic comedy that has all the right pieces to succeed (Amy Heckerling? Michelle Pfeiffer? Paul Rudd?), but ended up in a torturous release limbo that led it straight-to-DVD. Fortunately for us, it has many wonderful discoveries, chief among them Michelle's dazzling comedic skills on full display and another wonderful mother-daughter relationship anchoring the antics.

Our crossbows are out and, much like La Pfeiffer's wicked Queen Ingrith, our sights are set on the Disney sequel nobody asked for, MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL. We start once upon a time with memories of the one that started it all, Sleeping Beauty, and after a quick detour through the original Maleficent, we get to its sequel: Michelle fully channeling a long, lost Lannister, the sins committed against Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, and the crackling diva sparks that don't quite set fire to the screen. Plus, a special The Music Man bonus tangent at the end. Come hear the story and decide for yourself if this film is true love or just cursed.

As we continue our exploration of Magical Michelle, we must admit this Pfriday that we hath fallen in love with an ass: Jerry for Dominic West's and Michael for Christian Bale's. However, La Pfeiffer's fairy queen Titania has fallen in love with the transforméd ass that is Kevin Kline, which means we are covering the all-star Shakespeare spectacle that is A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. This episode covers a lot of forest ground, from high school and college Shakespeare productions, to the wealth of 90s Shakespeare films, to the use of bicycles in this particular adaptation. But most importantly, we ask how it was possible to get a trio to look as beautiful as Rupert Everett, Stanley Tucci and La Pfeiffer do in this film.
