Darren Smith and John Gennaro recap a weekend that didn't go so great for the San Diego Padres but went splendidly for San Diego FC.
Did Buster Posey's aggressiveness in trading for Rafael Devers steal some of A.J. Preller's thunder? Is Yu Darvish (or Michael King) ever coming back to pitch for the Padres?
Also, Darren does a slight mea culpa on the FIFA Club World Cup, which is off to a fun start despite getting somewhat lost in the shuffle of soccer overload in the US.

Darren and John skipped the usual Friday scene at Mason Ale works and tried their best to ignore some of the darkest stories of the day. It doesn't always work, but the guys mostly spend the podcast talking about the NHL Stanley Cup Final, the NBA Finals, a Juan Soto vs. MacKenzie Gore rivalry, and the weekend ahead.
The guys also talked about Padres manager Mike Shildt, who is not a very popular manager amongst MLB players and seems to be fighting with his own bullpen strategies in a recent postgame press conference.

Darren and John start off the show talking about the U.S. Men's National Team drama and how stupid it is before turning their attention to the San Diego Padres, who dropped their rubber match against the Dodgers on Wednesday and who might be working a trade in the next few days.
Later, the guys talk about what is lining up to be a really great NBA Finals after the Pacers showed up and won game 3 at home to take a 2-1 lead over the heavily-favored OKC Thunder. But you know what would make the Finals even better? A decent broadcast.

John is back from Florida and has a lot of thoughts on the political divide between that state and California, which ties in well with today's conversations about international soccer coming to the United States this year and next.
After the guys talk a bit about politics and the Padres' beatdown of the Dodgers last night, they bring on Jeremiah Oshan from Sounder At Heart to talk through the battle between Sounders players and ownership over what they should be paid for playing in the FIFA Club World Cup and if the protests we've seen in Los Angeles might carry over into other cities during the tournament.
Finally, Darren and John are shocked at how bad things are going with USMNT and, later, they dig through the dates to try and figure out just how much the international tournaments will hurt SDFC over what should be a challenging next month of MLS action.

Just as an FYI: the sound quality, especially John's, is not great in the second half of this podcast due to some unforeseen technical difficulties.

Darren and John tried to have lunch in North Park yesterday and accidentally ended up in the middle of a massive watch party for Tottenham Hotspur fans. It was delightful chaos, and they brought on Ben Forman (founder of the San Diego Spurs supporters club) today to talk about why the game was such a big deal for Spurs fans and what being a fan of an English team in America is like.
After that, with Thursday's Padres game already underway, the guys talk through last night's collapse by the New York Knicks and what it portends for the rest of the Eastern Conference Finals and Darren's mental health.

Dylan from Letters to A.J. once again joins Darren and John for a conversation about the San Diego Padres, who have lost four consecutive games and seemingly can't score runs. Is it time to panic? How much of the blame should Manny Machado shoulder? Is Yu Darvish ever coming back? Why did we stop talking about Xander Bogaerts? And what was with that Kevin Acee article the other day?
We get into all of it, and hopefully make the listeners smarter baseball fans along the way.
