Keli is a new audio drama written and composed by Martin Green and co-created and directed by Wils Wilson, starring James Cosmo and Anna Russell Martin.
This fictional story of a talented but troubled young horn player stars Anna Russell-Martin, with a sonorous score recorded by a bespoke band including principal players from Black Dyke, Grimethorpe, Fairey and Brighouse, and featuring BBC Young Musician of the Year, Sheona White as “the voice of Keli” on tenor horn.
Martin Green has spent the last year immersing himself in brass banding, surrounded by the communities, the competition and the legacy of coal. Inspired by the resilient, creative individuals he has met, he’s produced a three-part BBC documentary, Love, Spit and Valve Oil, a new piece of music Split The Air and this Audio Drama,Keli, commissioned by The Lyceum and created with Lyceum associate artist Wils Wilson with whom Martin made last year's acclaimed audio drama The Portal.

C-90 is a collection of songs whose melodies, chord sequences and, in some cases, arrangements, Dave Egan recorded onto cassette tapes, mainly C-90s, back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s or, to put it another way, Circa - 1990. This was done either by way of bouncing from one cassette recorder to another or, later, using a four track recorder. On reflection, the original lyrics for these songs were no longer particularly relatable to Dave and so he rewrote them to create a juxtaposition of today’s lyrics on Circa '90’s music and a middle aged man’s words superimposed on a young man’s melodies.

David Baddiel and his mate Tim Hincks talk all things David Bowie. They spin out from there to anything and everything that’s funny, quizzical, and vaguely related to Bowie, or music, or their own mid-life crises. It’s a bit niche: Absolute Beginners won’t get it. You see? The ones who got that reference are smiling smugly. And others are thinking: I shan’t listen to that then.
