In Part 3 of my Sacred Medicine series, I dive into two popular substances often used in transformational healing. Ayahuasca is a powerful psychedelic jungle vine found throughout the upper Amazon region of South America that many people are seeking out for relief from depression, addiction, anxiety and more. Ketamine is not a sacred plant medicine, but it is also sought after by those who suffer from treatment-resistant depression, pain, and anxiety. Both substances have the potential to heal but they can also be misused or overused. While I have not used either substance, I have spent the last thirteen months interviewing dozens of people from all walks of life who have used either Ayahuasca or Ketamine or both and provided a balanced point of view on their effects, their downsides and whether either one provided a lasting healing for them.

Join me for Part 2 of my Sacred Medicine series. Today’s show focuses on Cannabis and Psilocybin (magic mushrooms). For those of you who are doing deep transformational healing work, the subject of using plant substances that have the potential of bringing one into heart-centered awareness as well as greater understanding of one’s internal and external world is bound to come up. Cannabis and psilocybin are often used in trauma therapy within a shamanic healing protocol and can be helpful to teach a person how to let go and release. But they can also be misused or leaned on too much. I’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these sacred plant medicines from my own personal experiences (including my former anti-cannabis stance) and my observations on who is likely to struggle the most with these powerful medicines.

Join me for the first part of a four-part series where I take a deep dive into sacred plant medicine. In today’s show, I give an overview of how this powerful type of plant medicine has helped many people heal and, for some, quicken their road to awakening and enlightenment. I came to this subject as someone who was against it for many years until I did my own research and began to realize that what I’d been taught was based on rumor, outdated studies and opinions instead of facts. I learned that plant spirit medicine indeed has the potential to bring one closer to the Divinity within and break down the barriers that have prevented one from body, mind and spirit healing. While not suited for everyone – and I delve into this aspect on today’s show – if one is able to “find their medicine,” they have an opportunity to create a cosmic connection with the plant that opens both their mind and heart. Today’s show is for the listeners who either don’t realize they are entangled with their illness or admit that they are, and want to learn how to dig themselves out of the pit they are buried in. This show is for those listeners who are not offended by what they hear but who are willing to take a step back and see if they are indeed identifying with their illness for whatever reason, and understand that by doing that, they are not going to heal. Because when you agree to entangle yourself with an illness, you are also agreeing to give up your power and use the illness as a reason for staying in a state of helplessness and believing that helplessness is going to give you whatever it is you crave or demand from a need that was not met a long time ago.
When your illness becomes your identity, there is no way you are going to extricate yourself from that place because you have melded yourself to the thing that is actually trying to teach you something about yourself but not through BEING that illness. It’s through the conscious understanding of what it needs to teach you and how you must overcome it in order to move to your next level of awareness in this lifetime.

Alchemical healing requires going through death. But it’s not an actual physical death. I call it “The Cosmic Death’ because it’s a death that affects you across the board of the mental, emotional and spiritual but leaves the physical intact. And that’s why, in my own opinion, it’s much more difficult to experience The Cosmic Death because it’s like being wide awake for your own heart and brain surgery. Or your own internal destruction. But you also get to be awake for your internal rebirth which is the reward for going through this extremely profound and life-changing experience. But how to navigate it? That’s the question. In today’s episode, I discuss the lead up to The Cosmic Death, the necessary Surrender, the brokenness one feels, followed by awareness and enLIGHTenment and rebirth into the “new.” This show is especially important if you are going through this difficult experience right now in your healing journey or if you feel you are about to surrender to it.

Everybody needs advice, especially when their life implodes. And being drawn into alchemical healing will certainly create that implosion. Not many people understand this type of healing because it IS the road less traveled. So right there, you have a built-in limited group that will understand how to advise you. But you will need advice. Attempting to go it alone as I did for too long is not a great idea. Your thoughts and fears begin to take root inside you, leaving your point of view completely ungrounded. It’s easy to become stalled for months or years because you are only listening to the confused voice inside. So, you say OK I need to get advice because I’m lost or stagnating. But, therein lies the big issue: who do I go to that I can trust and not just with information that is incredibly private but who can actually help me and lead me to the answers I need. In today’s show, I’ll discuss who to talk to and most importantly, WHO NOT to go to for advice.

I understand that you have gone through a great humbling experience with your healing journey and how it has brought you to your knees many times. I also know how that translates into a feeling of weakness and apprehension. But when you allow this weakened state of body, mind and spirit to keep percolating for years on end, it quickly morphs into more of a need to isolate and less resolve or motivation for what needs to happen in order for you to move forward on your healing path. Weakness will never be a strength and cultivating strength during alchemical healing is non-negotiable. What I mean by that is that when you agree to overhaul your entire life and re-evaluate and tear down what is not working any longer, you can’t do that if you are weak in body, mind and spirit. Each of those must be strong, fortified and interconnected so that your body can rely on your mind and your connection to spirit is strong enough to get you through the times when you’re not sure your body and mind will follow. Consciously focusing on strength also involves expecting more out of yourself and more out of the healers you work with. If you don’t do that, you risk languishing for years and possibly decades in this airy-fairy cloud of weakness and non-action. There’s a time for rest and there is a time for rebuilding and regeneration of the body, mind and spirit. It can take two years once you set forth with this intention, and even longer to see tangible progress if you’ve really been through the mill and had time to rest and sleep and do whatever you needed to withdraw from life and heal. But if you stay in that quiet reflective place too long, you stagnate, along with your body and mind. In today’s show, I go into detail on why it’s important to strengthen your spiritual body, along with your mental and physical body. I provide plenty of insight, along with targeted supplements and therapies that I personally have used and helped me cultivate the strength I needed to get where I am right now.

As the title of today's show suggests, I am focusing this episode on how depression is experienced from the point of view of those who share their life with the chronically, long-termed depressed partner, parent, child or family member and come under fire from the missiles of silence, rejection, disinterest, passive/aggressiveness, self-absorption and more that the depressive volleys at the ones who are doing everything in their power to help and uplift the depressive. Your story and struggle are always swept under the rug and often overlooked as to how this experience is wearing you down on all levels. You want nothing more than to help your loved one overcome their depression because you deeply love them and want them to be happy. But there is also a futility, sadness, frustration and constant discouragement that leads to any number of physical ailments. You may even worry you are becoming depressed. But are you truly depressed? Or are you carrying depression for someone else through the entanglement with that person? Does distance from the depressive suddenly create a healthy shift in your energy field that is palpable and that reminds you of the life that you are not living because you are chained to the depressive’s prison cell? I’ll cover each of these questions and more in today’s episode.

Letting go of what no longer serves you is imperative if you are going to truly heal. But there's an "art" to it. You must consciously desire letting go while at the same time being aware that your commitment to letting go will require you to do things that you’ve never done before, that scare the hell out of you and that create a lot of tension and apprehension within your mind, body and emotions. And through all that, you still have to jump in and swim even though you may be terrified of the metaphorical waters. You can’t drag all your old stuff into your new reality because a lot of that old stuff is why you’re sick, broken, lost and stagnating. Letting go is very difficult if you’ve been holding on for dear life to people, belief systems, aspects of your personality, patterns, fears and so much more. But I assure you as someone who has done this, that once you get past the first few times of letting go, the release and the relief that is felt is the gift and reward you’re giving yourself and that will continue to incentivize you to keep that releasing pattern in motion. In this episode, I teach you various ways to let go that you can immediately put into practice.

I’ve listened to many ‘stories’ from a lot of people about their lives for my entire life and I've told a lot of stories. But it wasn’t until I was told, “It’s just a story,” did I stop and reflect and realize that all those people who were hanging onto their stories, were using that story as a reason for why they could not heal. And if I wasn't careful and aware of this, I risked doing the same thing. Once I made the conscious decision to reframe everything that had happened to me into the context of “it’s just a story," everything started to shift from that point forward. In today’s episode, I discuss what to look for and when you’ll know you have arrived at the door of your own alchemical transformative breakthrough. I'll go over what occurs in the pre-awakening stages that can start three to five years before you finally have "the big moment." But there can be signs of what's to come as far back as twenty or more years when you reflect back on specific life events that briefly altered the direction of your life or set you onto a different path. I also cover the most common ages TRUE transformation work begins and why attempting it [or pretending to do it] in your twenties or even thirties doesn't usually work.

There are a lot of “props” used in personal transformation work that do nothing to help you transform and one of those props is the use of ‘buzzwords’. Not only do these buzzwords bastardize the English language, but they also imbue a childish nature in people who use them that does not lift one into the stratosphere that demands maturity and critical thinking skills. These buzzwords are misused, mischaracterized, and even given new twists of meaning that the word was never intended to have. In this episode, I go into detail as to why you should never fall for the buzzword trap when it comes to self-actualized healing and give examples of some of the favorite and most overused words.

When you agree to set foot on the path of your own de-construction and eventual reconstruction of your body, mind and spirit, the process of waking up to your reality and how you have operated within that reality, is going to involve countless ‘wake up shocks.’ These are visceral emotional/mental shocks you will encounter along your healing journey that often can bring you to your knees. They are meant to shift your consciousness in such a way that you are forced to stop and take a moment to allow the ‘wake up shock’ to reverberate and resonate within your vessel in order for the realignment of your true self to emerge. The longer you’ve been asleep to your own reality, the more shocking and resonating your ‘wake-up shocks’ will be. It’s the cosmic energy that grabs you by your shoulders and shakes you to your core. It’s like no other shock you have ever experienced. And from my own experience, I think it’s that powerful because it is not coming from your ego. It’s coming from your soul. It’s coming from the Divine.

The Façade is the mask you wear to hide the parts of you that you believe are unacceptable or shameful. It’s the personality you project into the world that covers up your true self. However, if your goal is to heal body/mind/spirit, the façade must dissolve. The façade is the personality projection you adopted and adapted to because either it was the only way to survive or because someone else kept telling you that you have to do it because nobody would “like” the real you or nobody would understand you. That’s just two examples. There are a LOT of reasons for the façade being engaged in an individual. When I say that alchemical transformation is getting to meet yourself for the first time, that person you get to meet is the real essence of you behind the façade. It’s the you without the trauma informing your personality. It’s the you without the fear of being judged by family, friends, partners, co-workers, etc. It’s the you that doesn’t care anymore whether you’re liked or not. It’s the you that finally fits inside your skin. And to uncover all that, you have to drop the façade.
