🔴⚪️🎙️ In this episode we interview our first ever guest on the pod, long time Pat’s fan Tony Geoghegan, as part of a new oral history of club fans called Saints’ Stories.
We take a look at the position of right midfield/right wing in our All-Time Saints XI, and we have a season review of the 1936/37 season as well as profiling the first ever Pat’s captain, Martin Morgan.

In a bumper Episode 6, we celebrate the tenth anniversary of one of the greatest days in Pat’s history - the 2014 FAI Cup Final (and Brian Kerr’s in tears). We recall the run-up to the final and the day itself and reflect on the lasting legacy of the Christy Fagan Final at the club.
We also consider the many nominations we’ve received for our All-Time Saints XI centre halves. We profile most of these players, from Timber Cummins all the way through to Joe Redmond, and everyone in between - and eventually decide on a group to go to the vote!
We review the Saints’ sixth year in competitive football, the 1935/36 season in AUL Division One, and look at everything from financial difficulties to ice cream horns and referees. Finally, we profile the Cummins family - some of the founders of our club.

In Episode 5, we pay tribute to three recently-departed Saints - Billy Bagster, Mark Meagan and Paddy Eccles.
We look at the history of the many managers of the Saints, from Alex Stevenson to Stephen Kenny, and continue our mission to find the All-Time Saints XI with the position of left-full. We review the 1934/35 season and profile an important family at the beginning of the Saints’ story, the Bowmans.

Episode 4 sees us announce the first member of our All-Time Saints XI and decide the four candidates for the second pick - our right full-back. Dermot makes a special plea for a blast from the past, but Gary seems to be firmly behind a more recent right-back.
We look back at season 1933/34, the fourth for the Saints in competitive football, and profile one of the great players of the era, Des Dempsey.
Don’t forget to check out two Pat’s history events coming up soon - the launch of Dermot Keely’s book in the Glen of Aherlow pub on Thursday 26th Sept at 7.30pm, and a talk on the many managers of the Saints in Richmond Barracks on Tuesday Oct 8th at 7.45pm as part of the Dublin History Festival. More details in the pod.

Episode Three of the pod sees us introduce the All-Time Saints XI as chosen by Pat’s fans with the position of goalkeeper. Gary and Dermot take a look at the nominations made by fans online and decide on their top four. Keep your eye on our socials and make sure to vote!
Our season-by-season review looks at season three for the Saints - the 1932/33 season, spent at AUL Division II level. It has been, to date, the only league campaign which saw the Saints unbeaten. The free-scoring side were also successful at Cup level. We also profile the great Mattie Geoghegan - the first ever Irish senior international to come from our club.

Our second episode is a European special!
Gary speaks about some of our more recent European adventures - ties against Elfsborg and Hertha Berlin in 2008 and Legia Warsaw in 2013. Meanwhile, Dermot looks back at two games from the more distant past - our European debut in the Cup-Winners Cup in 1961 versus Jock Stein’s Dunfermline Athletic, and our first tilt at the European Cup in 1990, a tough tie against Dinamo Bucharest.
Our season-by-season review moves on to 1931/32, our second season in competitive football, with Pat’s taking their place in the AUL Division III. Watch out for one the craziest cup ties in all our history - a thriller against Easons in the Subsidiary Cup - you won’t believe how long it took! We also profile two of the key forwards from that swashbuckling Saints side, Maco Harding and Tom Smith.

In this, the first episode of the History St Pat’s Pod, Gary and Dermot chat about the reasons behind launching this new podcast, and our hopes for celebrating the history of our beloved club.
We also do a season review of Pat’s first season in competitive football, the 1930/31 Intermediate League. It was a season that saw goals galore and no little controversy for the brand new club.
