Soccer greatness on Soccer Mom Sunday! Host Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define was honored to sit down and chat with Lori Chalupny (Lawson). Her creds are almost too many to list - USWNT, 2015 World Cup Champion, 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, former pro soccer player. As a Senior at the University of North Carolina, she started all 23 games she played in, scoring 10 goals with eight assists and finished her college career with 30 goals, an impressive number from the midfield, helping them to a 23-1-1 record in her final college season for the second year in a row, and First-Team All-ACC for the third year in a row. From her humble start on the youth competitive scene with JB Marine and Nerinx High School, Lori can reflect on her journey with a unique perspective. Listen in for her down-to-earth conversation about how things were in the Women’s Game, how they’ve grown, what she now tries to impart on her college athletes, and how she’s choosing to Soccer Mom her own little ones as they explore their fun in The Beautiful Game.

"Catching up with Coach" on this Soccer Mom Sunday! Host Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define caught up with Deborah (Kehm) Washburn, her former coach. Tune in for an emotional story of the love for The Beautiful Game that had to start later for Debbie as a player - because it WASN’T AVAILABLE for her as a St. Louis youth in years preceding Title IX. But, she’d eventually find a team, proceed to play competitively, and TWICE win the National Women’s Over-30 division of the USSF Open Cup, coached by her mentor, Bob Kehoe, SLU and USMNT. Like so many in soccer, Debbie did the grind - educating students at STL’s Ritenour, while getting her Coaching A license, and building the winning program at Lindenwood University (that started with “Help Wanted” signs looking for players) - she earned NAIA “Coach of the Year” and was honored in LU’s very first Sports Hall of Fame inductee class.

The Beautiful Game stole our next guest! This Soccer Mom Sunday, host Jennifer Siess from Mine to Define was joined by Megan McCormick, Academy Coach for St. Louis CITY SC. Destined to play basketball in Indiana, Megan was roped into Soccer. With her experience playing and coaching through professional levels, Megan combines her background in soccer and education for a wholistic approach in player coaching and development. Listen in for wisdom about fostering a love with the PROCESS of development with youth players, trusting that end goals will come, in time - and for a candid conversation about being “one of the few” women in coaching on the men’s side of the game, looking towards a time when it becomes “one of many” who are measured on qualification and merit alone.

There are not enough words to express the contributions to The Beautiful Game by this guest! Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define was honored to have a conversation with idol, Michelle Akers - FIFA female "Player of the Century", first female soccer player with an endorsement, first female soccer player to win in the Olympics, first to say NEVER STOP ADVOCATING AND WINNING! If you or your kids have a favorite women’s soccer player … if you have a daughter who can dream of playing the game at a higher level … if you have a son who also looks up to stellar female athletes … Michelle Akers is one to thank. She and her 1985 USWNT team, including STL’s own Ruth Harker, played when pay was non-existent, playing fields (literal and figurative) were not equal, and broadcast didn’t care to cover. She’s the O-est of the OG’s. Listen in for her game origin story, her recognition of disparity and continued advocacy, the long-coming recognition of the 85-ers, and her loves outside the game, including her son and horse rescue ranch. Make sure you and your kids know her name … and her story.
