Rose from Fiction Fixation is back with Natalie today to discuss Tell Me Lies. Tell Me Lies is Hulu television series following a group of college friends through their torrid relationships. Natalie and Rose will discuss how Lucy and Stephen’s tumultuous relationship can be viewed through the lens of depression and how mental health plays a role in how you weave your way through dating and sexuality. They will also discuss the other women in the show and how it reflects upon common things they see portrayed in reality when it comes to female sexuality and the power dynamics held within sexual relationships. Other themes will be narcissism, the spectrum of depression and how it presents, apathy, and queerness.

Happy Spooky Season, Team Tolerator! As a special Halloween treat, I am releasing our full review of Diablo Cody's Lisa Frankenstein. This review with Darcie was a Patreon exclusive as part of our Team Tolerator Check-In series but I wanted to celebrate one of my favorite horror movies with you. Lisa is a misunderstood teenager who, together with a reanimated Victorian corpse, embarks on a murderous journey together to find love, happiness, and a few missing body parts. Lisa has become one of my favorite heroines of horror and I hope you love her as much as I do!

We have a very special guest who was kind enough to help Natalie determine her definition for “the female gaze” once and for all. Morgan is the host of the podcast, Female Gaze: The Film Club, where she and her guests discuss films directed by female filmmakers. Natalie and Morgan will discuss the nuances and differences they see when female filmmakers are the ones capturing women’s experiences. Directors of note will be Greta Gerwig, Sophia Coppola, Natalie Morales, Chloe Zhao, and more! Are you able to sit in a movie theater and determine if a movie is directed by a woman just by the tone and choices made?

This week’s guest is Brianna McCabe, author of the book The Red Flags I've (Repeatedly) Ignored. Natalie and Brianna will share some instances from their past relationships and dating expectations where they knew they were definitely ignoring the red flags the other person was presenting loudly and without question. The two women will also discuss why women may feel pressured to ignore red flags, how loving yourself and having clear expectations helps combat settling for subpar partners, and what red flags became deal breakers as they grew more experienced in dating. Help us get to the root cause of ignoring red flags by telling us why you’ve found yourself dating someone who was a walking red flag!

BJ Colangelo (This Ends At Prom) joins Natalie on the pod to talk about misogyny’s effects on gender expression. The women will discuss their experiences expressing their femininity and how misogyny played a role in how free they felt to do so when they were younger. Androgyny and who gets to set the rules of gender expression will also be discussed as well as how body image plays a role in gender expression and how gender expression plays a role in your sexuality. Also, because Natalie can’t help herself, there will even be some references to some great movies and how gender was played with in film.

Natalie is joined by Rose and Courtney from Fiction Fixation to talk about a shared favorite topic, movies! The episode will revolve around the idea of romantic comedies and what they do really well and where they miss the mark. Natalie is a known rom com hater and Rose and Courtney are here to have a more nuanced conversation about the genre. All three can agree that a rom com is a hard thing to pull off! They’ll all talk about the favorite rom coms, the tropes they love, the tropes they’re over, and what they hope for the genre in the future. Movies of note will be Anyone But You, The Idea of You, Set It Up, and more!

“Taylor Swift and I hurt the feelings of men we’ll never meet.” Natalie is joined by favorite guests Elizabeth and Darcie to discuss the latest Taylor Swift album. While The Tortured Poets Department was hailed as a 32-song album about breakups and broken hearts, to Natalie and her friends it was more. It was an album that had them reflecting on the really messed up things that happen to them at the hands of misogyny. You’ll hear their takes on some of your favorite tracks from the album, they’ll dive into how the album was interpreted and accepted by the fan base and general public, and you’ll walk away from this episode knowing so much more about Natalie, Elizabeth, and Darcie.
This episode will be released in two parts! Make sure to listen to Part One from last week!

To All the Men I've Tolerated Before is officially on its summer break! You'll be seeing posted on our feed bonus content like guest spots I've had on other shows, Still Comfy? episodes, and more! This week I am featuring a guest spot that I did with Julia Washington on her podcast Pop Culture Makes Me Jealous. PCMMJ is the podcast that delves into pop culture through the lens of race, gender, or sometimes both. During this episode Julia and I discuss whether or not this scary, sexy movie was really ever meant for children. And of course I go hard on the misogyny represented within the character arc for Esmerelda and how she's viewed by her male counterparts. What was Disney's goal with this movie?

Our reality tv historian, Annie Sieg, joins the show today to talk about the flop that was Vanderpump Rules season 11. It didn’t take us long to realize that this season would not be delivering us the girl power season of our dreams were we abandoned trying to see Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz as good people who deserve audiences. Instead, we were delivered a season of any type of misogyny you could see in your everyday life. We had women be expected to the do the emotional and mental labor to make men feel better about their actions. It was a season where women spent more time disrespecting one another’s boundaries then lending a helping hand. And it was worst of all, a season that tried to center and put on a pedestal the very men who were hurting the women of the series. We wanted better, Bravo. At least Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney were there to show us how our boundaries are important, we are allowed to be honest about the way we’ve been hurt, and we don’t need to live our lives in the name of hoping the men around us like us.
