In this podcast Hammo talks about the thoughts and ideas that are going into the play, what to possibly expect and the influences that will have a bearing on the finished product. This podcast is for those interested in the creative process that goes into producing a new work.

My 2017 comedy festival show “Bunta Boy” covered the first five years of my career in the duo The Bunta Boys which included touring with a punk rock clown band, stabbing an effigy of the Pope onstage and nearly burning down the venue during our first feature spot. This was recorded in Adelaide and was my favourite show of the tour. Also more news on upcoming live shows The Popular Experiment and more.

We’re back! Ben Ellwood joins Justin Hamilton to discuss their love and theories about Twin Peaks: The Return, the works of Stephen King, Michael Chabon and Cormac McCarthy, nerdy heavy metal lovers and why Hammo likes to keep his batteries in the fridge. Brought to you by our sponsor Finger Knuckle Night Club, the only club in Australia that prefers their customers wasted before they enter the bar.

Comedian Ben Ellwood rejoins the show to talk about the ongoing advancements in technology and what it means for the every day person, the density of the work of Alan Moore, the hilarity of some new movies in the cinema, the best place to deal with your rage, why 3D technology doesn’t quite work and why Atlanta and The Leftovers may have inspired a re-thinking of my career.

We begin this podcast with a long rambly intro before settling into a fun chat with Sydney comedy newbie Jared Jekyll. Sure he’s been around for 6 years but he’s right at the beginning of his career and he entertains with stories about 21st birthday parties, being trampled by Goths and when you discover your favourite punk band is punky for Jesus. A really fun interview.

Possibly our most positive podcast yet as we scoot through the ethical decision I had to make about wiping out some cockroaches before launching into what we thought of Logan (we warn there are spoilers and then proceed to give none away), Donald Glover’s “Atlanta”, the short stories of Ted Chiang, the attitude of Alan Moore and just a hint of magic.
-
In this latest episode Ben and I talk about excellent sequels in “Trainspotting 2″ and “Logan” (NO SPOILERS!), advert auditions going horribly wrong, the compulsion of collecting and Ben’s amazing time as an advice dispensing rack of meat.
-
Comedian Ben Ellwood returns to discuss karma, what my face would be like as an Emoji, the latest in the lying president debacle, All That Jazz and why does a movie’s box office get confused for whether it was good or not. Also: we inch ever closer to Ben’s story we promised a few weeks ago.

Tom Gleeson is not only the star of Hard Quiz and The Weekly but also one of Australia’s best and most popular comedians. We recorded this podcast the Perth Fringe in between breakfast and lunch, discussing his new show “Cheer Up” and his approach to staying at the top of his game.

Time for the second flashback from the defunct “Helliar and Hammo Dig Flicks!” podcast spotlighting an interview with director Mike Mills about his wonderful movie “Beginners”. I also give my two cents worth (or should that be 5 cents now?) on movies “Jackie”, “Lion” and “Moonlight” (yay!) and “Passengers” (boo!). Also a little update on the joy of living in a post general anesthetic world. Warning: contains a story about inappropriate use of toothpaste.

Sydney comedian Nikki Britton is my guest for this podcast and we have a great chat about people who love being furious, Captain Starlight and Nikki’s wild encounter in the jungles of Borneo.

Don’t let the title mislead you, this isn’t a Cheech and Chong tribute podcast. If you’ve ever had to be rushed to hosptial with kidney stones then sit back, wince and relate. If you haven’t then let me talk you through it. Ben Ellwood helps talk me through the experience, how our heroes influenced us and why we should watch the film, “All That Jazz”.

Welcome to 2017! A few changes to the podcast this year with new rotating co-host Ben Ellwood joining me to talk about the end of 2016, our celebrities getting older, the failure of the left to see the rise the right, our desperate need to have someone in the audience think we’re great and we double down on our love of the movie, “Paterson”.

I had the opportunity to have a quick catch up with Margaret Cho while she was in Sydney for the Just For Laughs festival at the Opera House. Also contains thoughts on the Friday Night Lights style ending to the 2016 AFL and some opinions on Luke Cage and Westworld.
