God's choice of Jacob over Esau reflects that His favor is graciously given and not earned by works or deserved by position. God wanted Jacob to receive the greater blessing and he received it. In all of the deception, God's will was advanced. We see here in plain sight that no human act can thwart God's will. God did not abandon His gracious promise but used even the misguided acts of Isaac, Rebekah, Esau, and Jacob to further His plan for the salvation of the world. Jacob came to know the God whose blessing he had so coveted because of his continued struggle with his brother. Now, in a dream, he learned of God's grace and began to appreciate God's choice of him without the necessity of having his rivalry with his brother motivating his desire for blessing. What motivates your desire for a blessing? What motivates your desire to walk in the promises of God? I think it’s easy for us – or honestly, for me – to deify, or make saints of the patriarchs. But the reality is, they were human. They struggled, they doubted, they sinned, they messed up. They weren’t these perfect individuals who did everything the right way every single time. They were human. At the call, Abram went. God’s commitment to His promises overrides human weakness. The blessing was dependent on God’s promise not Abram’s behavior.Lot had to be a part of the journey for a season. But Abram had to separate from Lot to step fuller into His destiny and promise.With nothing other than God’s promise of many offspring, illustrated by the stars in the sky, Abram believed God.Let’s not let our barrenness in waiting seasons consume and define us.God shows himself faithful to his promises even when human beings doubt and feel the need to take matters into their own hands.Previously, Sarah had doubted that she was part of God’s promise to Abraham and had taken steps to provide him with an heir through Hagar. But we see God involving Sarah and, knowing that Sarah is listening to the conversation, God gives the most specific version of the promise of a son. God does not withdraw His promise because of Sarah’s unbelief or disbelief. In this episode of Behold Women: At the Table, Allie brings back Caitie Paprocky to talk about seasons of doubt and what walking through doubt looks like. Some of the topics we discuss are: the difference between deconstructing your faith and doubting, how to doubt healthily, whether or not doubting is something that a Christian can even do, and what the timeline of doubt looks like.

Doubt is a normal component of this life with Jesus. Caitie shares how there have been seasons where she has doubted God’s existence, doubted His goodness, doubted the love of God, doubted His call and His purpose for her life, and doubted His faithfulness. That theme of doubt can show up in a lot of places and is a normal component of faith. We talk through what it looks like to work in ministry struggling with your own doubts while encouraging others. “Doubting the goodness of God was really the hardest process for me to walk through when it came to doubt. I got really angry and it was easy to isolate myself during COVID because I was unemployed for 8 months, I didn’t have to go to church on Sunday or the young adult group. So, my faith really became my choice. And for a while my response was no, I’m mad, I’m hurt. I’m angry because I can’t reconcile what I’m experiencing with Your goodness.”Isolation makes a way for doubt.Where is the end goal of your doubt? Is it back to God? “The more I didn’t want to be transparent, the more I was reminded by the Lord that He knows my thoughts and He’s there to walk through things with me.”The act of remembrance is important in the midst of seasons of doubt. Through doubts, Job was the one book Allie clung to where she realized it’s okay to hash things out with the Lord. It’s okay to come before Him with questions, fears, and doubts. He invites that. Doubt hits everybody, and that’s okay. It’s what you do with that doubt that matters. In the story of doubting Thomas, Jesus doesn’t turn Thomas away; He shows him the nail scars. In typing Thomas as doubting Thomas, we can almost not see that Jesus moved towards Thomas and his doubts. He isn’t antagonistic and condescending, He starts by saying “peace” to Thomas and shows him the nail scars. More than doubt, Thomas shows us the story of faith. In response to Jesus moving towards Thomas, Thomas moves towards Jesus. And that doubt transforms into faith. If we sit in our doubts, we’ll turn them into despair and ruin. But if we take our doubts and turn towards Jesus, they turn to clarity, breakthrough, and deeper revelation of Him. It’s important to remember, that the circumstances didn’t change. It’s not like I walked through doubt, and I woke up with my dad there. But the lack of understanding didn’t deter intimacy with the Lord. And you can let it deter you or not. “Even through seasons of my unbelievable anger, I can speak to His unbelievable favor. He never once left me. I didn’t walk away from him. I was choosing to wrestle through them. And God was faithful the whole time.”Our heart posture through doubt matters. If I’m walking through doubt to attempt to prove God wrong, God’s not going to honor that. But if I’m walking through doubt saying “I know I’ve seen your goodness, but I don’t see it now,” I think God honors that because it’s an open heart to Him. We need to figure out the root cause of our doubt. And also to give grace to ourselves, because it doesn’t happen overnight. There’s a difference between emotional doubts and cerebral doubts. Find a healthy community to work out your doubt with.When we talk about bringing our doubts, we’re coming from a posture of “purify my heart Lord, give me a clean heart.” Because at the end of the day, I believe, but help my unbelief; I believe you’re good but am struggling with your goodness. And figuring out our heart posture is important. And in doubt, we have to be willing to be wrong and be willing to be called out.For more information find us here:

In this episode of Behold Women: At the Table, Allie interviews Kris Scalice. Kris walked, with her husband, through their son's addiction struggles and faced the worst possible scenario as a parent: the loss of her son. Kris talks about coming to know Jesus in the darkest season of her life and finding purpose in Jesus.
Kris' story is a story of redemption and the resurrected power of Jesus.

I almost feel bad saying that now in hindsight, I wasn't going to church for me, I was going for another reason. I hated God for taking my say. I did everything I thought I had to do. So why? And I remember just trying to hold onto anything.”“In that moment I knew .. me going back to church wasn’t to save my son, it was to save me. And that’s exactly what He did.”“Living with purpose takes on a whole new meaning when you’re walking with the Lord. It’s about doing something that pleases Him.”“We’re losing a generation to addiction and the stigma around it is horrible. But I have nothing to hide. I'm here for those who are struggling with addiction or know those who are struggling with addiction.”“The closer I got to the Lord… Just when I thought Easter was it - I was saved, and it didn’t get any better than that, it did! It kept getting better with Him.”“I do believe that God absolutely was carrying me. He was able to get me through all of the first anniversaries, with the store, with my family. He was carrying me the whole time.”“I get my comfort and peace in what God has opened my eyes to.""He set the right people in front of me at the right time. In this episode of Behold Women: At the Table, Allie takes some time to share about transitions and promise lands. By specifically looking at the book of Joshua, we talk about four things that are important to keep in mind as you step into the promises of God.

We are called to honor the secret place.Before we get Joshua as the leader of the Israelites, we see Joshua as a servant.Joshua didn't honor the secret place to get something from God. He honored the secret place because he loved the Presence of God and was hungry for more of Him.To step into our promise lands we have to let go of what we're comfortable with.When we are obedient to man, we do what we are comfortable with. But when we are obedient to God, we do what is uncomfortable.As we inhabit our promises and transition into our promise lands, what got us through the wilderness seasons of our lives may not be what sustains us through our promise lands. We want to leave the wilderness mindsets in the wilderness.We are called to stay in a posture of remembrance.We are called to live in a state of remembering what the Lord has done for us. We want to remember the words the Lord has spoken over us, we want to remember the miracles He has performed in our lives, and, most importantly, we want to remember the finished work of the cross.When we are in seasons of transition and we are called to step into our promise lands, we have to step into what is. There is action on our end.We can't inhabit our promises from a distance - we have to walk into our promises knowing that it is God who has ultimately brought them to pass.For more information find us here:

In this episode, I sit down with Ana to talk about wilderness seasons. We both share wilderness seasons we have walked through and share the process both in and out, the importance of a healthy posture before the Lord, not camping out in the wilderness and whether or not expecting God to do something is okay.

Waiting is never easy, or fun.God’s timeline and our timeline don’t always coincide with one another. When we realize that, it makes it easier to wait because it’s no longer on us.We’re not meant to walk this walk alone.We’re not always in desert seasons simultaneously. So me walking in my promise land, I see the fulfillment of the promise and I’m there rejoicing. But I can see a friend that isn’t and still encourage them and remind them of God’s faithfulness.God has to sometimes take us to places where there are no distractions, and no external noise, so that we can sit there and learn His voice and what He’s saying to us with that still small voice.Sometimes I can get so comfortable in my wilderness seasons that I stop partnering with the future God has for me.We have to be careful about where our heart posture is in the desert or wilderness seasons.Walking into my promised land wasn’t easy. I had to fight for it. And I had to really blindly trust God because that was not what I saw coming out of my promise land."Then he answered very quietly, 'Much-Afraid, do you love me enough to accept the postponement and the apparent contradiction of the promise, and to go down there with me into the desert?' She looked up through her tears and said, trembling, 'I do love you, you know that I love you. Oh, forgive me because I can't help my tears. I will go down with you into the wilderness, right away from the promise if you really wish it. Even if you cannot tell me why it has to be, I will go with you, for you know I do love you, and you have the right to choose for me anything you please.'"Sometimes we can get this idea that we have to have a bravado with the wilderness and we have to go in ready to be strong and courageous. But a lot of times what the wilderness does is create these deep, raw emotional moments with the Lord where you are growing so close to Him. And even in that, what the wilderness often feels like is walking in the direct opposite way of the promised land. But in recognizing while that may not make sense to us, it’s the path that God has for us, and in that my yes to Him has to be so much bigger than my yes to the promised land.Desert seasons are those times where you feel you have to fight to be in God’s Presence.In desert seasons we have to tell our spirit to push into prayer, to have my quiet time, and to spend time in the Word.You’re not going to be in a wilderness season forever. While this is your present, this is not your forever.There’s no shame in being in a desert season. It’s not time out. It’s not “I’m in trouble.” There is no shame in that season, it’s really just a season.The expectancy and the desire God has placed within you for the fulfillment is not a bad thing. He has placed that desire there to fulfill it.In the midst of expectation and wilderness season, there is always room for gratitude.You develop patience by remembering what the Lord has done.Hinds Feet on High Places: purchase here

In this episode of Behold Women: At the Table we talk all things emotions!
We recognize that when it comes to emotions, there isn't any clear cut answer. But I sit down with Caitie, a soon to be Licensed Social Worker, and talk about emotions. We talk about how to navigate emotions and how to process them - what tools we utilize in processing our own areas of pains and strong emotional responses. We also discuss the difference between righteous emotions, and emotions that are sinful. Are there unhealthy and healthy emotions?
We talk about not letting our emotions rule us but rather ruling our emotions. Being rooted in our identity in Jesus allows us to come from a place where we can have authority over our emotions. We talk about dealing with the tension of sitting with negative emotions and indulging in them.
Lastly, we talk about trauma responses and whether trauma is an emotion or a response to an emotion or situation. We also discuss unbalanced emotions as a result of trauma.

In this episode of Behold Women: At the Table, we interview our good friend Brooke, who has learned how to wait well. We talk about how important it is to maintain gratitude in seasons of waiting and how God is always up to something.
We talk about how to stop those spirals of negative thoughts and combat them with gratitude and thanksgiving. We can be thankful in all circumstances because Paul encourages us to do so in the Bible. So when we find ourselves in seasons of waiting, we can combat those negative thoughts regarding waiting with gratitude.

We talk about starting and running a business and what that process was like for her - especially in overcoming negative voices, following and trusting God's timing, and especially running a business through COVID and maintaining faith.
Another thing we discussed was the community that Amanda created during the lockdown and how fostering that community has ultimately helped her to grow her business.
Lastly, we discuss the importance of stewarding our bodies well and recognizing that they are temples that house the Holy Spirit. We talk about what it looks like to steward our bodies well, how to move into a healthy perspective, and away from comparison. We talk about social media and the negative effects it can foster in people's lives and how to take breaks when necessary.
