In 2005 Latoyia Figueroa went missing without a trace. During the duration of her disappearance her family and local bloggers banded together in the fight to get her story to mainstream news. Between July and August the city of Philadelphia was turned upside down in search of clues that could explain how a pregnant mother of 1 could vanish out of thin air. Join me as I discuss racial bias in journalism and the life and death of Latoyia Figueroa. The world is fucked up y'all, let's talk about it.

Happy Black History Month my friends, its our time to turn up. I drove our bus back to the Crescent City to tell y'all the story of Renetta Yemika-Lowe Bridgewater aka Magnolia Shorty. In 2010 Renetta was murdered in a double homicide along with Jerome Hampton and their deaths were nothing less than violence. In this episode I dive into the history of New Orleans and the Magnolia Projects which was a cradle for the most influential artists of our time. The streets tell a different story when it comes to the death of Renetta, who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Y'all know its fucked up out here, let's talk about it.

Join me and Coach AJ as we dive in to the Grim Sleeper Part 2. I thank ya'll for tuning in because for decades the Grim Sleeper hunted in his own backyard and because his victim profile was black sex workers who suffered from the illness of drug addiction; his crimes went unnoticed. The Grim Sleeper was 1 out of many serial killers who preyed on Los Angeles. What's different about this case is the skin color of the victims. Black women in South Central LA were targeted and found murdered in alleys and amongst trash and many believe that LAPD stood by and allowed it to happen. Join me in part 1 while I take ya'll thru the timeline of the victims that were found up until 2002. Part 2 is where we get into the final victims and the investigations that took place resulting in the Grim Sleeper being caught after his hiatus.

Lisa Rene was 16 years old when she was abducted and buried alive; all because of a botched drug deal. I broke this case down so we can understand that all parties were equally culpable. Lisa’s murderers walk among us today and I need to know, at what point do we forgive, at what point can someone be redeemed. Thank y’all for tuning in. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blackgirltruecrimepodcast/support

Kayla Barfield was held hostage and used for ransom after providing support to a woman claiming to be in a domestic situation. Her battered body was found in the backseat of her own vehicle in another city and her captors escaped not once but twice due to poor police response. Detective Adelemeyer and Lt. Petz from the D.C Homicide unit have failed to return phone calls, bring in witnesses, and provide updates despite the evidence available to them. Currently Kayla’s case is not seen as a homicide, but an accidental death due to the authorities claiming she said she fell down a flight of stairs.
