Trianna Levi was just 11 years old when she first attended her local Salvation Army corps. From that night on, she was received with love, care and kindness. This community she had engulfed herself in had made her realize that one purpose of the Church is to lift one another up. This week, the Fight for Good team is joined by Kevin Larsson and William “Bill” Flinn! Kevin is the Divisional Music Director of The Salvation Army California South Division, and Bill is a Salvationist and former Tournament of Roses Executive Director.
The Tournament of Roses has a history reaching back to the end of the 19th century, as well as a collaborative relationship with The Salvation Army that extends through most of the parade’s lifespan. The parade typically brings 6,000 to 7,000 participants among the 118 groups, with 15,000 volunteers behind the scenes. Of the 118 groups, The Salvation Army was the only religious group represented with a marching band.

This Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys will celebrate the 25th National Red Kettle Kickoff. This partnership was spearheaded by Charlotte Jones, who serves as the Dallas Cowboys’ Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer. Since that first Kettle Kickoff, Jones and the Cowboys organization have been strong supporters of The Salvation Army, helping to raise nearly $3 billion in donations. Jones also served as the Chairman of The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board from 2010-2014. In celebration of this occasion, the National Commander, Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, sat down with Charlotte Jones to talk about the early days of this yearly tradition and how the partnership has grown.

Lieutenants Anil and Karen Kumar are the Corps Officers in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Lieutenant Anil is a 3rd generation Salvationist from India where his parents served as Salvation Army officers for over 30 years. Lieutenant Karen is a 7th generation officer. Between her great grandparents, grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, the family’s service has extended to all four Salvation Army territories in the United States.

Major Molly Shotzberger worked in emotional and spiritual care and critical incident stress management at Ground Zero and numerous disaster relief operations as an active Salvation Army officer. Her officer career included appointments in the Army’s Eastern Territory ranging from Social Services Manager to Pastoral Care Counselor and Trainer in Crisis, Trauma, and Grief Counseling. Her many awards, certifications and education include earning a Master’s in Leadership & Ministry from Greenville College in Illinois.

Bervelly Santime is here to break all the stereotypes that you may have about the younger generations. At just 19 years old, nursing student Santime has contributed most of her life to The Salvation Army. Between volunteering at food distributions, leading worship during youth Sundays and inspiring the young children at her corps, Santime has paved the way for the younger generations to step up at the church. In her interview with the Fight for Good team, Santime shares her family history, her life in the Army and her goals for the future.
