Okay okay...I admit I'm so excited for the weekend because I get to rep my black & yellow (baseball mom era over here!) But I'm also very excited to bring you a new episode on the podcast today.

If you are like me & most of the women I coach, you are highly successful in your life. But, recovering from years of unhealthy behaviors with food & awful thoughts about your body feels truly hard to overcome.

What you need to know: core beliefs you've established since childhood are playing a big part in where you are right now & learning to shift these beliefs can literally break the chains that are holding you captive.

In Episode 172, I share the 3 types of core beliefs, how they are fueling disordered eating behaviors & what you can do to transform these cycles.

You DO NOT want to miss today's episode...

I repeat...don't miss this one girl!

    ~

I encourage you today to recognize how your beliefs are impacting your current reality.

    Keep going.

    Keep fighting.

    Don't give up.

  • Hi girl,

I sure do hope that your week is off to a great start.

But if it's not going the way that you had hoped, that is okay too...

Maybe you just need some inspiration & nudge in the tush!

You can choose today to BELIEVE that positive change is coming your way any minute.

    ~

+ I created Episode 171 of the podcast to help reframe your thinking & your BELIEF to get you on the right track.

In today's episode, I discuss 6 steps that you can take to create more BELIEF in your life, so that you can truly lean into recovery freedom.

    ~

Let's rewind for a minute as I take you back to my own struggle with disordered eating...

I was lost. Exhausted. Constantly thinking about what I could eat next & when I could eat it. I was miserable. & I spent years in the same wonky cycle trying to convince myself that everything was fine & I was fine....oh how I was so far from fine.

Fast Forward to my "ah-ha"....I hated life & I craved a better way. But in the process of creating more for myself I came across my own personal lack of BELIEF.

The only way out girl, was through. & the same goes for you. But the good news is, if you are constantly feeling doubtful & discouraged...you can take steps today to start feeling more motivated & hopeful. The same steps I took as I crawled myself out of the deep dark hole I found myself in with anorexia.

    ~

Listen in to discover the 6 steps to help create more BELIEF in your life, so that you can start living the very best version of YOU! You won't want to miss this one!

  • Oh girl how I am ready for Friday! How about you?

I can’t wait to share with you one of my fav topics today on the podcast: LEGACY!

But what does this have to do with finding freedom from disordered eating patterns and behaviors? Well, it’s so important that you develop your “why” in recovery, so that you push yourself to leave behind the best version of yourself one day to those who love you!

You see, you have a choice right now sister, do you want to stay trapped in the cycle of disordered eating, or do you want to become transformed into who you were made to be?

If there is a gap from where you are now to where and who you want to be in the future, today's podcast episode is FOR YOU!

    You are not your body.

    You are not your things.

    You are not your problems.

    You are not your past.

    You are not your fears.

You are not your unhealthy relationship with food.

    ~

In Episode 170.5, I talk about leaving a LEGACY. I discuss laying down false ideals and beliefs, so that you can reclaim your life, and make it worth living, while you still have the time.

    Freedom is yours sweet friend!

The truth is...people remember how you make them feel, not how your body looks or what size your pants are.

The truth is...when you put your head on your pillow each night, only you can be proud of you and make the daily choice to rise again the next morning, fierce and ready to take action against those obsessive thoughts inside of your head.

The truth is...all of us will leave a legacy behind one day. What will yours be?

Be remembered for the things that matter. (Unlike the number on the scale.)

Listen in to this one sis!

  • Hey there!

Shout out to all of my high achieving women! Oh sister friend, we are built from the same cloth for sure!

I learned the hard way that progress is so much more important that perfection.

& I found myself at rock bottom - still flawed & yet so far away from being perfect.

    ~

The desire to perfect in all the things will cripple you in life & recovery from disordered eating if you aren't careful. Ask me how I know!

In Episode 170 of the Her Best Self Podcast, I share with you how you can embrace being flawed & fearless, & overcome perfectionism simply by redefining how you view success.

It's time for you to stop STRIVING for perfection. You are allowed to be perfectly flawed because you are already perfectly worthy.

    ~

The most valuable thing you can make is a mistake because you can't learn anything from being perfect. Let God be the perfect one!

    ~

I encourage you today to listen in to this one & reflect on the golden nuggets I share, so that you can escape the trap of perfection & face life (& recovery) head on. You totes got this!

    I believe in you!

  • Hey love!

I'm honored to have your listen of today's episode on the Her Best Self podcast.

Typically, I feel a prompting as I'm about to sit down & record the show to prep a certain topic & I dive right in to my zone of genius to show up for you & provide you with all the BEST content. Yet, today when I sat down it felt different. I felt completely called to serve someone today. I felt called to lean in & whisper to YOU. I felt prompted to share straight to your heart from mine, that recovery from food controlling your life is POSSIBLE.

&, I felt committed to providing you with hope, love, encouragement, & inspiration for when you just aren't "feeling" it. Because life & freedom from an eating disorder isn't linear. You will have days where you are on top of the world & days where you don't want to get dressed.

    But listen in girl...

You did NOT come this far, to only come this far.

You did NOT walk this path for this long, to walk away without victory.

You did NOT find my show by coincidence. Don't you see? It's all part of the plan.

It's all part of your story.

You are here for a purpose & a reason. You were called to live a BOLD life. A BIG life. A life not revolved around shrinking your body to make you feel valued.

Your very BEST & true self doesn't need to be controlled, manipulated, maintained or micromanaged.

You see, the biggest lie I ever believed was a smaller me was a better me. It was indeed a "different" me. But it didn't make me happier.

Friend, I pray today that you have the courage to break the patterns that are no longer serving you & that you start showing YOU who you truly are. This is your time!

    ~

Thank you so much for your listen to the show girl & don't forget to come on out to our private FB community, www.herbestselfsociety.com & share a win from your week!

I'll talk to you real soon girl!

  • Good Morning sister friend!

Did you know that you make as many as 35,000 decisions every single day?

But if you struggle with unhealthy behaviors tied to food & control over your food, 9 times out of 10 you will make a bad decision towards living your very best life if you aren't mindful. That is because decisions made in stress & with anxiety....those are the worst decisions of all.

But it doesn't have to be this way!

In Episode 168.5 of the podcast I teach you all about how to avoid this trap. I share with you the power to PRE-DECIDE all over again! This one is SOOO good girl!

    ~

Pre-deciding allows you to accumulate a record of wins, while reinforcing the importance of recovery, plus...it actually gets you "doing the thing"!

Listen in to this one sis! I break down the benefits of pre-deciding, as well as what steps you can take right now to practice the process of pre-decision this week!

I just know you are gonna love this one!

Decisions determine your destiny. Let's make a good one!

  • Happy Friday sister friend!

We have arrived girl...oh how we have arrived! TGIF!

This first week of September has felt like a month for me. With back to school, back to routines, and back to the business trenches, it has been a very long (short) week!

Today, I noticed I was daydreaming in my head of our next beach vacation. I am so not ready to say goodbye to warm weather just yet.

Anyhoo...I do enjoy the fall. It's beautiful in our neighborhood with all of the landscaping and makes our usual morning walk to school a pleasurable one.

Speaking of morning walks to school...today the boys decided to ride their bikes. And it just so happens that our street was under construction. Just when I thought we had plenty of time to get there...ROADBLOCK! There were signs and construction and black tar everywhere!!

Good news is we did officially make it before the dreaded late bell, but it sparked inspiration for today's episode.

    ~

In Episode 168 of the podcast I talk about roadblocks....RECOVERY ROADBLOCKS!

I share 15 top hidden hurdles in recovery that are extremely common and can be overcome but will keep you STUCK right where you are if you aren't aware of the detour. Listen in to this one friend and spread this message of freedom with someone you love.

I can't wait to share today's show with you!

  • Hey girl!

    How was your weekend?

I hope you had a great one!

We celebrated Labor Day & relaxed, rejuvenated & did absolutely NOTHING!

Oh, how it was glorious....well maybe for my hubby & I.

We were planning on going camping, but the hustle of another weekend away felt like so much....our bodies literally needed to be home.

I literally adore being home. How about you?

    ~

So the one thing that I did accomplish over the weekend was a level set with myself.

I have been feeling so unaligned since vacay & I couldn't put my finger on what was off with me. But today, I grabbed my journal & pen & did some personal reflection that changed the game.

    Your girl is BACK!

    ~

& I knew I needed to do an encouraging episode to share it with you!

In Episode 167 of the podcast, I discuss the importance of self-reflection, & I share with you tons of questions that you can ask yourself when you are feeling lost, anxious, stressed, discouraged & emotional.

I hope this one helps you create action for you in your life, so that you can step into your healthiest most vibrant self.

    I love ya girl!

  • Hey girl HEYY!

How is your week starting? I hope so very well!

But to make it even better, I'd love for you to join me in another coaching over coffee episode on the HBS podcast today!

    ~

In Coaching over Coffee, Episode 165 I answer the question:

"How do I accept my body & continue to make the right choices when I feel myself gaining weight?"

    ~

Here is a hint, (but I encourage you to listen to the full episode still):

If you find yourself questioning this part of the recovery process the first step is to understand how recovery works.

What you are experiencing, I have also experienced. This comes from ED & the only way around it is to shift your perspective & begin to accept that maybe your body just isn't supposed to be controlled, forced or manipulated into a size.

When you live life from a place of restriction...you believe you aren't allowed to have something, you shame yourself & you go against what it is you actually want....CONTROL, PEACE & FREEDOM.

    Body Acceptance is Key!

    ~

    Newsflash sis...

"Your body is NOT your masterpiece, your life is." ~Glennon Doyle

    ~

Reality is, you can continue to trust the process even if you don't love the process. You can trust that this is what is healthy for you & what is best for you long term.

Your body was never meant to fit into your idea of perfection. Once you allow it to be free, is when you can experience true healing.

I hope this episode gives you more permission to do the next right thing!

    I believe in you :)

  • Ohhh Happy Day!

Or is it? I hope you are hanging in there sis!

In my neck of the woods, my mom turned 70 today & I caught myself going down a long dark hole of the "what ifs" & negative thoughts. I found myself wondering just how many more years I had left with her.

But I stopped myself mid-thought cycle & held the negative Nancy committee captive in my mind while I REFRAMED to something way more powerful & positive.

Research tells us that 95% of our thoughts are set on repeat every single day & out of all of those, nearly 80% are negative....freaking wow! Am I right?

What this means is you will continue to allow those negative thoughts to impact your life UNTIL you change the song & rewrite the lyrics.

In Episode 164 of the Her Best Self Podcast, I share 10 recovery reframes for you to leverage TODAY that will have you changing your perspective & your life.

This one is full of truth, so make sure to grab a notebook & pen so that you can use some of these phrases this week when you find yourself revisiting those old recycled lies.

I hope you enjoy today's show as much as I enjoyed recording it for you :)

& don't forget to come on out to our private FB community, www.herbestselfsociety.com & share with us your fav reframe from Episode 164!

  • Hey Girl,

Do you live with guilt or shame from unhealthy patterns or disordered behaviors with food? Do you try to control your food intake only to end up frustrated and like you have failed at life? I hate what this cycle does to so many of us women.

In Episode 163.5 of the HBS podcast, I get vulnerable AGAIN and share the good stuff! I talk about my personal faith & how I struggled to believe God even cared about me at my worst with anorexia. But the most epic message of today's show is the topic of total surrender.

Sis, in order to find complete freedom from disordered eating, you must trust in something other than yourself to get through it. In order to find complete freedom, you must let go and surrender your plans, for plans that are far greater than what you can even imagine for your life.

You see, the first step to recovery....begins with surrender.

Surrender your power and false sense of control, so that HE can create something NEW in you. True change comes from true identity. You were created for MORE.

Trust the one who created you. You weren't born to be the best at being sick.

I hope this episode hits you differently today friend! Would you mind sharing it with a friend in your life that you feel it may bless?

I would be so very honored.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~Jeremiah 29:11

  • Happy Tuesday sister friend!

How is the week treating you already?

I'm actually freaking out a tad because school is starting over here in less than 2 weeks & while I CANNOT wait for us to get on more of a schedule, I'm holding on to summer with one mighty strong grip!

Plus, I haven't even finished ordering all the school supplies for the boys & their backpacks are on backorder....ahhhh, okay let me stop oversharing all my behind the scenes #momlife struggles....

    ~

In Episode 163 on the podcast today, I share with you about the struggle of belief & how to overcome the LIE from the enemy that recovery isn't for you....

    ~

Sis, your mind has SO MUCH POWER!

In this episode, I discuss the concept of mindset conditioning & how you can level up that internal power within you, so that you can reject your old self & direct your life's energy to the things you want most.

Things like personal freedom, happiness & no longer being a prisoner to disordered eating.

I can't wait for you to listen in & share this one with someone you love as I walk you through the process of mental conditioning & what you can do next.

    Let's go girl!

  • TGIF sister friend!

Whew, can you believe it? We have arrived! HAHA.

Well, almost...the weekend is still loading...

So what do you have planned?

It's going to be a rainy one here in the VA, but I'm looking forward to some quality time with the hubby & kiddos. I'll probably enjoy a few good yoga sessions & spend some time in reflection with the perfect cup of coffee. But what I won't be doing is killing myself in the gym on the treadmill for hours like the olden days when I was stuck in the cycle of excessive exercise.

& I can't say I miss that life one little bit...

    ~

In Episode 162 of the podcast, I share with you my exercise story & how I rebuilt my relationship with exercise to be HEALTHY & HAPPY & FREE!

~If you "never miss a Monday"...

If you work out every day...

If you have an insane amount of guilt & punish yourself later for not getting in a gym sesh...

If your exercise routine impacts your marriage, your family, your relationships...

& if you restrict food on days you exercise less...

then this episode of the who was made just for YOU!

~I can't wait for you to listen in & share it with a friend, so that, you can take these 5 steps RIGHT NOW to escape excessive exercise & STOP working out every day!

You have permission to rest, relax & recover.

In fact, it's REQUIRED in your recovery!

    Don't miss this one sis!

    I love ya girl <3

  • Hey sis!

I sure do hope that you didn't miss Episode 160 of the podcast that launched Tuesday, where I speak with Jacqueline Sherman as our special guest in PART 1 of her story.

As a follow-up from that convo, I'm sharing with you PART 2 today!

Jacqueline Sherman has an inspiring story about overcoming an eating disorder rooted in challenging family dynamics that left her feeling voiceless. At 15, during her parents' divorce, she turned to bingeing and purging to cope with the chaos. Despite trying various treatment centers and Overeaters Anonymous, real change came only after working with her therapist, Anita Johnston, who helped her identify the underlying needs driving her behaviors. Through dedicated effort, she learned to advocate for herself, set boundaries, and practice self-compassion, even when it felt forced. Her resilience is evident in her numerous comebacks after relapses, and today she enjoys a fulfilling life with a loving marriage, rewarding career, and genuine self-acceptance. Her story offers hope that full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and underscores the importance of patience and persistence in the journey to self-love.

    ~

In today's show, we talk through so many things. But Jacqueline’s authentic story is one for the books!

This convo was such a treat and I just know it will bring inspiration and healing to your recovery journey.

Come hang out with us and listen in!

  • Happy Friday friend,

How is your week going? We are on the last leg of our vacay & while it's been a blasty blast, part of me is ready to get back to reality. My heart thrives in tranquil time of reflection but I'm excited to come back refreshed & ready to bring you some fabulous new content on the HBS pod.

Until then, I wanted to share with you one of my most favorite episodes of the show, where I discuss the #1 strategy I used to heal my relationship with food & ultimately what I did to recover from my eating disorder.

    ~

You see, my biggest challenge in my personal journey to recovery freedom was FEAR. I was scared to death to gain weight. & I was scared of what others would think of me.

    The reality was....

I wanted to escape the control that food had over my life.

I wanted to stop counting calories and caring about what everyone around me thought about me.

Yet, I was terrified to face the unknown and to fail.

I mean, what if I fell flat on my face?!

    ~

In today's episode I share inspiration of what you can do if you are tired of living restricted, overwhelmed & consumed with food control & overexercise.

I can't wait for you to listen to this one if you haven't yet!

    ~

It's one thing to want to change, but wanting isn't enough sis!

You have to DO something about it.

It's your turn to DO something about it!

I hope today's show puts a fire under you to become a person of action. I hope today's show helps you to face fear and do the thing anyways. I hope today's show encourages you to expect greatness from yourself.

    You got this!

  • Hi lady!

How is the start of your week going so far? I hope you are embracing summer in all the chaotic, yet somewhat relaxing vibes it brings.

This past week, a listener of the Her Best Self Podcast wrote in asking the question:

"What do I do when the "voice" inside of my head gets louder & louder? I've been trying to navigate healing from disordered eating but the voice doesn't go away. Any help or feedback you could give on the show would be wonderful!"

So to answer your question sweet friend, today I'm sharing the perfect episode replay, where I discuss 6 Tips (+ a bonus tip) on how you can tell that "voice" to sit down & shut up!

The truth, according to researchers is that over 90% of individuals with an eating disorder, or those who suffer from disordered eating, experience a self-critical inner voice that can be distinguished from self-critical thoughts or cognitions. According to an article in medium.com, researchers have proposed that as the illness progresses, these unhealthy thoughts (thoughts that motivate eating disordered behavior's which may initially have seemed reasonable or even desirable) are replaced by the experience of hearing a ‘voice’ that is threatening & abusive, dictating & compelling the person to act in ways they recognize are unreasonable & which cause them significant distress.

So with this in mind, I knew I MUST share with you what exactly YOU can do about those pesky thoughts & that mean girl voice.

Tune in today sis to learn how you can separate this false reality from your TRUE reality & identity.

& if you are looking for more support, go straight to my website, & apply for 1:1 coaching, so that we can work together to help heal your relationship with food & body!
